Oh, that face, that fabulous face. Whose is it?
gagman66 replied to georgiegirl's topic in General Discussions
There is no Esther Costello. It's Dolores Costello. Check out the three clips I posted from GLORIOUS BETSY on TCM Classic Film Union. http://fan.tcm.com/_Dolores-Costello-And-Conrad-Nagel-34The-Emancipation-Of-Elizabeth34/video/1820515/66470.html http://fan.tcm.com/_Dolores-Costello-34Ravished-In-The-Garden34/video/1820611/66470.html?b= http://fan.tcm.com/_Dolores-Costello-34Before-Us-France34/video/1820961/66470.html?b= Yes, I know that Joan Crawford starred in a film called THE STORY OF ESTHER COSTELLO in the 1950's. But there was no Silent movie Star named Esther Costello. Dolores sister was Helene Costello who was also a popular leadign lady in the 20's and early 30's. -
*THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE.* Yeah, it just ran last month, but I don't care. Prior to that, TCM hadn't aired this movie in years. Three Silent films nominated for, or that won Oscar's that they never ever show. *7TH HEAVEN (1927), UNDERWORLD (1927),* and *THE LAST COMMAND (1928)*. Also what about the 1974 version of *THE GREAT GATSBY?* These are just a few.

Hey Scottman! Yes, we talkied about *WINGS* a fair amount in the Hot Topics forum. I was very pleased that they ran the new restoration. Somewhat unexpected. However, there was no mention of it in Robert Osborne's introduction? The debut should have gotten more build up. *THE RACKET* also got allot of searches on the TCM Data Base. Hopefully many people ordered the Blu-ray and or DVD of *WINGS*. People were asking where the DVD of *THE RACKET* was at? It would have been nice to have seen *SEVENTH HEAVEN, UNDERWORLD,* and *THE LAST COMMAND* during 31 Days of Oscar as well. Those three never air. By the way, I have posted allot of new stuff on Youtube and TCM-CFU recently. Including three clips from *GLORIOUS BETSY* with my compiled score, and Now a couple clips from *FINE MANNERS*. Plus you may not have seen the clips I uploaded from *LOVES OF CARMEN, IRENE, NO MAN'S LAW,* and many other films. Here are the links to the *FINE MANNERS* scenes I just put up. Actually it's about the First 20 minutes of the film, minus the opening credits.

so where is the listing for the new "Essentials" line-up?
gagman66 replied to AddisonDeWitless's topic in General Discussions
Yes, that's the one. I have four or five clips posted on TCM Classic Film Union of the 1926 BEAU GESTE. Pretty good print transfer with Orchestral score. Another film I faled to mention is PETER PAN (1924), That definitely belongs on the Essentials. Both PAN and GESTE were directed by Herbert Brenon, one of the most prolific, yet forgotten Directors of the Silent Era. -
Very good news. I was under the impression that Photoplay was not involved? Basically that is what I was informed from a friend who attended a screening of *SHOW PEOPLE* with Carl Davis score a few months back. Kevin was there as well. It played to a packed house at AMPAS of 2000 people. Hopefully, we will see the new version on TCM by the early Fall. In the meantime, are they finally debuting the newly restored *WINGS* tonight? Sure doesn't look like it based on the three previews running. It's been out on DVD and Blu-ray since January of last year. But the restored print has never been shown before on TCM, and may not be until April. That's what TCM Programmer Chuck Tabesh told me back in late November. After their failing to get the Photoplayb version a couple years back it would be extremely disappointing if Paramounts own 2011 restoration does not premiere this evening.

WINGS is on Tuesday, but it doesn't look like it will be the new restoration that came out on DVD and Blu-ray just over a year ago. In late Januray of 2012. So very disappointing. However, if it isn't the new edition on Tuesday, it could be in April accoring to what TCM programmer Chuck Tabesh told me back in November. Buy the Blu-ray it's on sale at Amazon right now. You won't be disappointed. The new master of THE BIG PARADE will be out on Blu-ray probably in the late Fall, but might debut on TCM a little sooner. Remains to be seen. THE BIG PARADE is hands down the best American film Silent or Sound ever made never to have had an official DVD release before. It's ridiculous that it has taken tso long. This should be about the third release, not the first. My all time favorite movie! -

gagman66 replied to AddisonDeWitless's topic in General Discussions
Apparently, no Silent films this season on The Essentials. Here are a few titles that should have been considered for a possible new Silents entry. THE FRESHMAN- (1925) Should have been on the Essentials a long time ago. THE BIG PARADE - (1925) New Restoration set to appear on TCM later this year. THE GOLD RUSH-New Criterion Restoration of the 1925 Silent version. BEAU GESTE (1926)-Just restored by UCLA. DON JUAN (1926) METROPOLIS (1926) SEVENTH HEAVEN-(1927)-It's never on TCM? WINGS (1927) -If it's the New Paramount Restoration. THE CROWD (1928) -

Thank you, twinkeee > h2. *This is Ian Ogilvy* - replaced Roger Moore in The Saint Returns-TV > Dabb, Actually, it wasn't called THE SAINT RETURNS, Rather, RETURN OF THE SAINT. The show who I thought no one but me remembered, had a great theme song. This guy also appeared in a very memorable episode of THE AVENGERS called THEY KEEP KILLING STEED! -

It's not to easy. I can't think who this is. I know who it is, but can't place her at the moment? -
It's ridiculous last year they demolished the Historic Pickford -Fairbanks studious. All the current generations want to do is bury and destroy all memory of our past, culture, and history. The Government continues to spend money like water, money not even theirs to spend, and they treat it all like some silly game. They aren't taking the insurmountable national dept seriously in the least. They should all be shot. Obama is nothing but a shifty kickback artist. And the people are increasingly ignorant to the problem of mass corruption that should have landed so many of these filthy dirty politicians in prison with no hope ever for parole. This country is on life-support. I'm sorry but that is the God's honest truth of the matter. Now the Pope has resigned! The end of days are ibn full swing.
