  1. I have several posters with Pola Negri in a film called "THE CHEAT" from 1924. Was this a remake of the 1915 De Mille feature that TCM has aired frequently, or a completely different story? Does anyone know? Here is one of the posters.

This is one of the best John Gilbert Portraits that I have seen.
  4. Izcutter, Hey Lynn, These are for you!
  5. It's very nice to see the papers and radio stations giving you some press coverage. But please note KFAB is an Omaha Station, KLIN is in Lincoln. These two are sort of affiliated somehow, although they don't run all the same programming. Sorry to say at this time, there is little chance that I will be able to attend the event. I will keep working on it. Best of luck to you in getting this all put together. You are to be commended for your dedication and determined efforts.

  8. Jill, Well, here are a couple of great Jobyna Ralston photos that I colorized back in September that she might enjoy seeing.
  9. Angie, I have a number of Evelyn Brent photos, but have only colorized about 5 or 6 of them. Just watched Von Sternberg's THE LAST COMMAND again a week or so ago, and Evelyn is great in that film. This movie has been restored, and is touring in 35 Millimeter, so maybe we will eventually get a DVD release, but I want the restored UNDERWORLD too, among others. *Evelyn Brent as Natalia Dubrova In THE LAST COMMAND (1928)*
  10. Jill, It wasn't meant to hurt anyone's feelings it was just a joke. My initial thought when I first saw the illustration. Allot of old vintage poster paintings of Harold Lloyd don't look much like him either. Some do, but I have seen allot of them that do not. Anyway, please don't mistake what I was saying.
  11. Err, No Offense intended, but is that Harold or Phil Silvers???
  12. ugaarte, I will colorize the montage. It will just take awhile to do. You might have noticed that Colleen is wearing a Chaplin Toothbrush Mustache in a couple of the photos in this? Surprised not to see her also wearing Tortoise Shell Horn-Rims, as she and Harold Lloyd were very close friends. And my own designation of Colleen has dubbed her as The Female Harold Lloyd. Mable Normand was often called the female Chaplin. In ELLA CINDERS Colleen does a clever impression of Jackie Coogan. Have many more photos of Colleen, and Renee that I will be posting later on.
  13. Lynn, Yes, I just mentioned this in the other thread, and on Nitrateville. No, I did not hear the Chat though. Nice to learn that they are working with Kevin Brownlow. So what does this say about the music for THE BIG PARADE? Are they having Carl Davis reprise his score, or just re-mastering the Thames version to go along with the new restoration of the longer print? They surely don't intend to put all the Thames Metro/MGM Silents in one set do they? That would cost a heap. I'm including THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE among those, made well before the forming of MGM. Other than Kevin being directly involved, none of this is exactly news. I have been hearing the same thing for years, and years. And "NO RELEASE DATE HAS BEEN SET", is definitely not one of the things I wanted to hear yet again from these people. That's getting mighty old. Hope that the Thames list includes OLD HEIDELBERG. Was there anything at all about the Lon Chaney 2 set that has been promised since 2006? And if so, will it include THE BLACKBIRD? Incidentally, I mailed you a package yesterday. You should have it by Thursday. Send me a E-mail if you want to talk about this some more.

johnbabe, THE BIG PARADE, (not THE GREAT PARADE), is on TCM in May. Not the latest restoration, but they are working on that as well. LA BOHEME needs re-mastering pretty badly. The Warner Chat mentioned THE BIG PARADE, and several other MGM Silents earlier this evening that are forth-coming to DVD for the first time. However, no release dates have been set yet.
  15. Yes, I have both ZENDA, and VANISHING AMERICAN. I had forgotten about those.
  16. Jill, The only two films that I have seen Malcolm McGregor in before or the Norma Shearer feature LADY OF THE NIGHT, and Clarence Browns SMOULDERING FIRES. He was a good leading man, but I tend to ogle Laura La Plante in the latter, so how would I know? Haven't even heard of the The Untameable (1923). I don't believe I have seen Gladys Walton in anything to date.
  17. Jill, Both Burners still work fine, so I have been in no hurry to get a different one. My current PC was put together in the fall of 2006. I need to upgrade my Ram from 1 to 2 Gig, Otherwise it still works pretty good. I have 500 GB of hard-drive capacity between my slave, and and main drives. This rare Frank Borzage film just ran at Cinefest. Have you seen it before? I wonder if this was a good, and complete print from Warner's? I have a poor version on VHS, the first reel seems to be missing, and it has been copied over and over. Never finished watching it beyond the first 20 minutes or so. It's hard to tell what the original recording once looked like? I haven't transferred it to DVD-R. Would love to find an improved recording. Do you have one?
  18. Jill, Yes, I have two burner's and one is a Lite-On Dual-Layer Model, I can write to Dual-Layer, but it generally has a number of errors. My burners are 4 and 5 years old. It's just U-Lead does not read the file size correctly, and compresses more than is needed automatically. Maybe there is a format Plug-in, or patch for MP-3, and AVI, that would take care of this. I have never been able to find one. With AVI, I should be able to get more than one movie, an a single disc, but can't. If I add music, and menu's the file always balloons way up in the reading size, but once I burn something, there is still allot of empty space on the disc. And I am talking about Single-layer here. U-lead is my favorite for making DVD programs, but it just doesn't read the file types used accurately.
  19. Jill, I use DVD Shrink all the time, but how do I burn with it to a Dual-Layer disc? I have never been able to do this? I tried a few times with no success. My main DVD-Writing authoring software is U-Lead DVD Movie Factory 6+. This is supposed to burn to dual-Layer, but it doesn't without shrinking to fit as with a normal DVD-R? Very frustrating., I end up with Half-the disc not even written on.
  20. Jill, I only saw a few minutes, but I recorded this just to see if it was the newer print which TCM has never aired before. I think that it was. I will take a gander tonight. Err, I tried logging into your site, but I am apparently still barred? I am not remotely dangerous. So no need to be concerned about anything from me.
  21. Jill, Holy Smokes! That's wonderful news. Do I need to get a a credit or debit card? I don't currently have either one. I canceled them all when my wallet was stolen about 3 years ago. Have managed to get by fine without them. If I had one, I would have ordered something already today. Was there any news on the up-coming official release of THE BIG PARADE? It's suppose to be out before the end of the year. I aqm not surprised that there were no Thames/Channel Four/MGM Silents in the first batch of disc's that were offered.
  22. Ed, Isn't it odd there there are no true Warner Brothers Silents? Not even DON JUAN, or NOAH'S ARK? Several MGM titles, but no Warner Brothers, or First National either? Hopefully, those and several others will be forth-coming before long.
  23. Everyone, Wonder if TCM is airing the new restoration and much improved print of SUNRISE, or will it be the same dark transfer that they have been running? Anyone know?
  24. A very odd photo. This is supposed to be Renee Adoree with very wild hair. However, the picture looks allot more like Ella Nazminova? Doesn't it? Anyone know if this is really Renee or not? If so, what movie is it from? As I study that face, yes it actually could be Adoree? I have never seen her like this before. *Renee Adoree with Big And Wacky hair???*
