  1. AnnieLaurie, I have a handful of Leatrice's movies. A few of them are on commercial DVD. Including De Mille's MANSLAUGHTER (1921), THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (1923), and THE CLINGING VINE (1926). There might be a few others, but those are the ones that come immediately to mind. I probably have two or three more that haven't been released. I ll see if I can find some good photos of the lady to post here.
  2. calvinnme, PICTURE IN THE PAPERS the fist film in the Fairbanks set on Disc one is probably the poorest quality print in the entire batch. Most of the prints are very good. Like I said the clarity of THE MARK OF ZORRO is beyond belief! And it is practically artifact free! It's great seeing a young and quite beautiful Constance Talmadge in the MATRAMANIC. The thing is, a half day tribute to Gilbert most likely would not produce the desired films. No premier of the newly restored THE BIG PARADE certainly. That's being reserved for a future Prime-Time debut, if and when it is in broadcast format from Warner's for TCM to run. BARDLEYS THE MAGNIFICENT as it will air on TCM, isn't ready to go yet. The score by Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra is being recorded next month. We probably won't see the film until the late Spring at the earliest. They can't use the score France 3 did. They would have to pay the Composer. TCM perhaps will run MONTE CRISTO as well, once Flicker Alley has it ready to go? Though I don't know for sure. THE COSSACKS or MAN, WOMAN & SIN isn't likely to show up anytime soon. TWELVE MILES OUT might, because it has Joan Crawford in it. HIS HOUR still has Czech Title-cards only. At least as far as I know. With a Gilbert month, we should get a few premiers that have never been broadcast before. With a half day, most likely you would get 4 or 5 Silents, and a couple of talkies. Those would probably be FLESH AND THE DEVIL, Maybe THE MERRY WIDOW, or HE WHO GETS SLAPPED, THE SHOW, A WOMAN OF AFFAIRS, and DESERT NIGHTS. Plus QUEEN CHRISTINA and maybe THE PHANTOM OF PARIS for the talkies? KIng Vidor's LA BOHEME (1926) looks quite rough and could stand a new transfer, so I wouldn't expect to see that selected. TCM has run it before, but very rarely.
  3. *John Gilbert with One-Time Wife Leatrice Joy*
  4. mongo, Two more Big Names from the past now gone. Van Johnson was one of my late Mothers favorites. I freely admit that I have lots of Bettie Page stuff. Most of it I can't post here though. Whoops! Haven't heard anyone mention that Beverly Garland was Laura's (Stephanie Zimbalist's ) Mom in REMINGTON STEELE, and Amanda's (Kate Jackson's) Mother in SCARECROW AND MRS. KING. She was delightful in both roles.

    2009?

alix1929, There have been a few other Silents with Norma Shearer broadcast in the past. TCM has run both LADY OF THE NIGHT, and A LADY OF CHANCE, in addition to OLD HEIDELBERG and HE WHO GETS SLAPPED. THE DEVILS CIRCUS (1926), would be a nice one to see as well. TCM will not air any Silents that are scoreless. My top 10 choices of Warner's owned titles not counting the re-mastered THE BIG PARADE would be. HER WILD OAT (First National, 1927) Colleen Moore. THE COSSACKS (MGM, 1928) John Gilbert, Renee Adoree, Ernest Torrence, Nils Asther. Dircted by George W. Hill, and Clarence Brown. FORBIDDEN HOURS (MGM, 1928) Ramon Novarro and Renee Adoree. THE FAIR CO-ED (MGM, 1927) Marion Davies, and Johnny Mack Brown. HIS HOUR (MGM, 1924) John Gilbert, and Aileen Pringle. Directed by King Vidor. Written by Elenoir Glyn. ANNIE LAURIE (MGM, 1927) Lillian Gish, Norman Kerry. WINE OF YOUTH (MGM, 1924) Eleanor Boardman, Ben Lyon, William Haines. Pauline Garron, Virginia Lee Corbin. Directed by King Vidor. TWELVE MILES OUT (MGM, 1927) John Gilbert, Joan Crawford. THE FLAMING FOREST (MGM, 1926) Antonio Mereno, Renee Adoree. AN EXCHANGE OF WIVES (MGM, 1925) Eleanor Boardman, Renee Adoree.
  6. Wendy, Everyone, OK I just changed the Desk-Top. Here's what I have on there now.
  7. Wendy, He's definitely tightly packed in there. It must have been very uncomfortable to walk. And that suit was probably pretty heavy too.
  8. Everyone, I'm pretty sure this is just a Sick Gag by the poster! Pay no attention!
  9. I first saw this girl In the Tom Mix Western RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE (1925) many years ago. I always thought she was postively gorgeous. *Marion Nixon, An Arresting Beauty* *Marion Nixon, Precious And Sweet*
  10. Battleborn, With all do respect, GET LOST!!!!! Now go play your video-games full of Mindless violence, cursing, and endless bloodshed like a bad little Erodent. It's obvious that you enjoy exploding vehicles so much. Maybe you'll even be lucky enough to be in the next one? Could be? Oh, and Merry Christmas.
  11. ArmandDuval, Holy Smoke! The guy who played the creature looked just like my Dad!!!
  12. CelluloidKid, Another sad story. I freely admit, I have lots of Bettie Page Photos. Including a few Christmas ones. Err, not to sure that I can post any of them on this forum though. She's a shall we say a little under-attired in most of them. Bettie had such a vibrant, dynamic personality about her. Haven't seen the Bio-pic. I very rarely rent DVD's.
  13. CelluloidKid, Beautiful sentiments. Van was always one of my late Mother's favorites. Now she might finally get to meet him. Sure hope so. It's a sad Holiday season for me, one of my best friends just passed away too.
  14. Johanna, That's neat. The Gill-Man was awesome! He just died this year too. I haven't seen any Creature movie in a very long time. ArmandDuval, Yes, I saved the photo from the premier of BARDLEYS THE MAGNIFICENT (1926), but I wasn't able to do much with it. If you are interested in the movie I have it on DVD-R from France 3 a few months ago. It is very good, but I don't like it quite as well as I do THE COSSACKS (1928).
  15. Mike, Thanks. Hey, did you say that you had a copy of LADY LYNTON? I have never seen it, and this movie is extremely rare. I'm pretty sure that Wendy got THE MATING CALL from me. Glad that you liked Evelyn Brent better than you thought you would. She was great in Josef' Von Sternberg's UNDERWORLD, and THE LAST COMMAND.
  16. *Evelyn Brent From THE LAST COMMAND (1928)* *A striking Portrait of Eleanor Boardman from around 1925* *Clara Bow, with Some Gypsy Flavor.* *Dorothy Sebastian, and Nils Asther From OUR DANCING DAUGHTERS.*
  17. *Evelyn Brent From THE LAST COMMAND (1928)* *Clara Bow, with Some Gypsy Flavor.* *John Gilbert, And One Time Wife Leatrice Joy* *Portrait of Eleanor Boardman from Around 1925* *Jetta Goudal, Guitar Maiden* *Corinne Griffith, Those Eyes, That Face!* *Dorothy Sebastian, and Nils Asther From OUR DANCING DAUGHTERS.*
  18. I wasn't to sure myself? This is what I have there at the moment.

    2009?

    > {quote:title=Film_Fatale wrote:}{quote} > I'm still waiting for the Lon Chaney DVD Set Volume 2, with *He Who Gets Slapped* and others Film_Fatale, Far as I know the long promised re-masters and fresh scores for HE WHO GETS SLAPPED, and THE UNHOLY THREE have not been completed, or even started on? I haven't heard a single, solitary thing about it. That's probably why the Chaney Two set hasn't been released yet? This was first announced for 2006 in late 2005! Slipped into 2007, they were working on a Tod Browning documentary. So we were promised a release in 2008. Didn't happen. I still would like to see THE BLACKBIRD included. There is no reason to leave it out now. THE MOCKERY is getting a fresh score by James Schafer, so it makes sense to have that as a part of the set too. Replace the Maria Newman score to MR. WU, by all means! TELL IT TO THE MARINES is one of my favorites so that has to stay in. I'm more interested in a DVD of THE BIG PARADE than anything else. Although the lack of a DVD does not upset me nearly as much as that fact that the movie in any form has been absent on TCM for over 4 years now. When are we finally going to see the new fine grain-master broadcast?
  20. kathrynbrent, Unfortunately, Robert Z. Leonard's A LADY OF CHANCE has not been released on commercial DVD. However, Please note, I just sent you a Private Message a couple minutes ago. Be sure to check your In-box on this forum. Thanks.
  21. DanielEmery, I personally think Miller was a great choice. And he selected some fine films. There is nothing wrong with these segments. And I happen to like Comic books! And THE SPIRIT is my all-time favorite character! There is nothing simple about him, or his world in the least. Plus Will Eisner was a true genius! One of a kind! A movie based on his most famed creatuion is decades overdue. God Bless Frank for finally bringing THE SPIRIT to the big screen! A movie has been kicked around for over 40 years, and was nearly made by Brad Bird in 1982. It was going to be one of the first Computer Animated features produced. At long last, there's a movie, that being said this film had better be good!
  22. ugaarte, Glad that you like the Lillian Gish Photos. Here is another one. Plus a very young looking Mr. Gilbert. I thought that might be Norman Kerry with Lillian, from Annie Laurie again, but Ed, who has seen the movie said that it wasn't? And finally Billie Dove with another Gilbert, this time Gilbert Roland. John Gilbert Youthful, and Clean Shaven *Billie Dove Being Romanced by Gilbert Roland from an Unknown Movie.*
  23. Ed, I still plan to buy Murna-Borzage as soon as I can. Might not be for awhile though. I am still paying for my first treatment, and I had my third one Thanksgiving week. Can't afford much for the Holidays this year. I need to buy allot of gifts yet too. Everyone, The Fairbanks Box set A MODERN MUSKETEER is fantastic! However, a word of caution, something strange here. Only two of the 5 disc's will read on my main DVD Player? So I ran off Shrink Back-up's, and those play-back just fine? I don't know why, but my main-DVD player/recorder will not read the disc's? The problem is I want to watch the original's not Shrinks! While the Shrinks look good, inevitably you are going to have some loss of image quality. Disc 1 and disc 5 are the only ones that play on my Polaroid unit. I haven't tried them on anything else, except the computer. Disc's 2 through 4 just will not read at all? Something with the Lead-in encoding is off somehow? At least with my main unit. Anyone else having this problem? THE MARK OF ZORRO looks totally pristine, and is beautifully tinted. The picture quality is so sharp this could have been filmed last week! One of the finest restorations of a Silent film I have ever seen anywhere! Would love to see 5 or 6 Colleen Moore features this lovingly restored! The score by Rodney Sauer, and Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra is good, but I kind of expected a little more Latin flavor. Some of the music is Spanish, sounding, but not allot of it. The Don Diego theme is. But not really the Zorro one? I would have went with more Spanish, and Latin sounding themes myself. I have seen few Silents as beautifully restored as this one. This is phenomenal! I have seen A MODERN MUSKETEER (1917), on TCM last March and it is great! Vastly exceeding my expectations. These two movies alone are worth the price of the set! And you get so much more! 11 films in all! 10 of them new to DVD! There is a nice illustrated booklet co-authored by Jeffrey Vance included that tells you all about Doug, and his early career. With production details of each film in the set. Another superb Flicker Alley project!
