AnnieLaurie, I have a handful of Leatrice's movies. A few of them are on commercial DVD. Including De Mille's MANSLAUGHTER (1921), THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (1923), and THE CLINGING VINE (1926). There might be a few others, but those are the ones that come immediately to mind. I probably have two or three more that haven't been released. I ll see if I can find some good photos of the lady to post here.

calvinnme, PICTURE IN THE PAPERS the fist film in the Fairbanks set on Disc one is probably the poorest quality print in the entire batch. Most of the prints are very good. Like I said the clarity of THE MARK OF ZORRO is beyond belief! And it is practically artifact free! It's great seeing a young and quite beautiful Constance Talmadge in the MATRAMANIC. The thing is, a half day tribute to Gilbert most likely would not produce the desired films. No premier of the newly restored THE BIG PARADE certainly. That's being reserved for a future Prime-Time debut, if and when it is in broadcast format from Warner's for TCM to run. BARDLEYS THE MAGNIFICENT as it will air on TCM, isn't ready to go yet. The score by Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra is being recorded next month. We probably won't see the film until the late Spring at the earliest. They can't use the score France 3 did. They would have to pay the Composer. TCM perhaps will run MONTE CRISTO as well, once Flicker Alley has it ready to go? Though I don't know for sure. THE COSSACKS or MAN, WOMAN & SIN isn't likely to show up anytime soon. TWELVE MILES OUT might, because it has Joan Crawford in it. HIS HOUR still has Czech Title-cards only. At least as far as I know. With a Gilbert month, we should get a few premiers that have never been broadcast before. With a half day, most likely you would get 4 or 5 Silents, and a couple of talkies. Those would probably be FLESH AND THE DEVIL, Maybe THE MERRY WIDOW, or HE WHO GETS SLAPPED, THE SHOW, A WOMAN OF AFFAIRS, and DESERT NIGHTS. Plus QUEEN CHRISTINA and maybe THE PHANTOM OF PARIS for the talkies? KIng Vidor's LA BOHEME (1926) looks quite rough and could stand a new transfer, so I wouldn't expect to see that selected. TCM has run it before, but very rarely.

mongo, Two more Big Names from the past now gone. Van Johnson was one of my late Mothers favorites. I freely admit that I have lots of Bettie Page stuff. Most of it I can't post here though. Whoops! Haven't heard anyone mention that Beverly Garland was Laura's (Stephanie Zimbalist's ) Mom in REMINGTON STEELE, and Amanda's (Kate Jackson's) Mother in SCARECROW AND MRS. KING. She was delightful in both roles.

TCM has run both LADY OF THE NIGHT, and A LADY OF CHANCE, in addition to OLD HEIDELBERG and HE WHO GETS SLAPPED. THE DEVILS CIRCUS (1926), would be a nice one to see as well. She's a shall we say a little under-attired in most of them. Bettie had such a vibrant, dynamic personality about her. Haven't seen the Bio-pic. I very rarely rent DVD's.

Johanna, That's neat. The Gill-Man was awesome! He just died this year too. I haven't seen any Creature movie in a very long time. ArmandDuval, Yes, I saved the photo from the premier of BARDLEYS THE MAGNIFICENT (1926), but I wasn't able to do much with it. If you are interested in the movie I have it on DVD-R from France 3 a few months ago. It is very good, but I don't like it quite as well as I do THE COSSACKS (1928).

Mike, Thanks. Hey, did you say that you had a copy of LADY LYNTON? I have never seen it, and this movie is extremely rare. I'm pretty sure that Wendy got THE MATING CALL from me. Glad that you liked Evelyn Brent better than you thought you would. She was great in Josef' Von Sternberg's UNDERWORLD, and THE LAST COMMAND.

DanielEmery, I personally think Miller was a great choice. And he selected some fine films. There is nothing wrong with these segments. And I happen to like Comic books! And THE SPIRIT is my all-time favorite character! There is nothing simple about him, or his world in the least. Plus Will Eisner was a true genius! One of a kind! A movie based on his most famed creatuion is decades overdue. God Bless Frank for finally bringing THE SPIRIT to the big screen! A movie has been kicked around for over 40 years, and was nearly made by Brad Bird in 1982. It was going to be one of the first Computer Animated features produced. At long last, there's a movie, that being said this film had better be good!

I thought that might be Norman Kerry with Lillian, from Annie Laurie again, but Ed, who has seen the movie said that it wasn't? And finally Billie Dove with another Gilbert, this time Gilbert Roland. Ed, I still plan to buy Murna-Borzage as soon as I can. Might not be for awhile though. I am still paying for my first treatment, and I had my third one Thanksgiving week. Can't afford much for the Holidays this year. I need to buy allot of gifts yet too. Everyone, The Fairbanks Box set A MODERN MUSKETEER is fantastic! However, a word of caution, something strange here. Only two of the 5 disc's will read on my main DVD Player? So I ran off Shrink Back-up's, and those play-back just fine? I don't know why, but my main-DVD player/recorder will not read the disc's? The problem is I want to watch the original's not Shrinks! While the Shrinks look good, inevitably you are going to have some loss of image quality. Disc 1 and disc 5 are the only ones that play on my Polaroid unit. I haven't tried them on anything else, except the computer. Disc's 2 through 4 just will not read at all? Something with the Lead-in encoding is off somehow? At least with my main unit. Anyone else having this problem? THE MARK OF ZORRO looks totally pristine, and is beautifully tinted. The picture quality is so sharp this could have been filmed last week! One of the finest restorations of a Silent film I have ever seen anywhere! Would love to see 5 or 6 Colleen Moore features this lovingly restored! The score by Rodney Sauer, and Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra is good, but I kind of expected a little more Latin flavor. Some of the music is Spanish, sounding, but not allot of it. The Don Diego theme is. But not really the Zorro one? I would have went with more Spanish, and Latin sounding themes myself. I have seen few Silents as beautifully restored as this one. This is phenomenal! I have seen A MODERN MUSKETEER (1917), on TCM last March and it is great! Vastly exceeding my expectations. These two movies alone are worth the price of the set! And you get so much more! 11 films in all! 10 of them new to DVD! There is a nice illustrated booklet co-authored by Jeffrey Vance included that tells you all about Doug, and his early career. With production details of each film in the set. Another superb Flicker Alley project!
