  1. Kate, Great! Thanks for the link. Very interesting stuff. To bad I can't make some money at colorizing these photos? Here is another of Eleanor Boardman apparently from the early 1920's? Yes, the same Woman from King Vidor's THE CROWD, who became the second Mrs. Vidor. And you haven't seen TELL IT TO THE MARINES yet either? I think you saw SOULS FOR SALE, but not WINE OF YOUTH? Correct? Incidentally, I am trying to get information from David Shepard on how far along they are in the restoration of BARDLEYS THE MAGNIFICENT with Gilbert, and Eleanor. I will keep you posted. The movie was supposed to be screened sometime this Fall in France? So I wonder if it is ready to go yet?
  2. mickeeteeze, Actually, this photo of Marion has some major flaws, and I may do this one over again from scratch. I still have the original Black and White. The color bleeds off to the side a couple places, and I do not like that part it at all. But I did this one probably a good six months ago or so. Sometimes it is very difficult to keep the color uniform, and where is all supposed to be. It tends to wander off on you a bit.
  3. Kate, Say, I haven't heard from you, except on this forum for several days. By the way, I need to know the Color of Garbo's Eyes? I assume they were Brown, but I honestly do not know? I may have read it somewhere a long time ago? If so, I have since forgotten the details? I think I have some painted magazine coveres in here someplace though? Eye color is also a problem with Delores Costello. Three photo's and in each one, Her Eyes turned out very differently.
  4. Well, She might have fallen out of my Top 10 list, but I know a good number of folks who consider this Lady the Number 1 most beautiful Star of the Silent Era. It's the always delightful Marion Davies in this wonderful portrait from 1927.
  5. mickeeteeze, Thanks. I try to keep within the boundaries of the appearence of Two-Strip, or Two-Color Technicolor. Although sometimes these photo's stray a little. I still am looking for some really good Photo's of Dorothy Janis, Camillia Horn, Marceline Day, Mary Duncan, and others. Here is the lady who I had Number 10 on my list. Vilma Banky. I don't have very many photo's of her. I think I have posted this one here before, but I can't seem to find the thread for some reason? *Vilma Banky (Yeah, I know what you are thinking, This Gal is only Number 10??)*
  6. nosound, Hey, haven't heard from you in a couple, three months. Drop me a line and let me know what is going on. Anything with Laura La Plante sounds interesting to me.
  7. ugaarte, Thanks. I am glad that you are enjoying the photo's. Dellores Costello's Eyes are either Brown, or Green? I am not sure which? Somebody must know? Here's another of Gilbert and Garbo, Out On The Town. For some reason, this photo was very difficult for me to Colorize. And I am far from completely satisfied with the finished results. Gilbert's face is much to Red, it looks like his Nick-Tie was cutting off his circulation! Meantime, there is to much glare on Greta, taking away from Her features. But than again, I am my own worst critic on these I'll admit. Actually, this Photo was apparently taken before the L. A. Premier of LOVE.
  8. Kate, More of Gilbert and Garbo, Out On The Town. For some reason, this photo was very difficult for me to Colorize. And I am far from completely satisfied with the finished results. Gilbert's face is to Red, it looks like his Nick-Tie was cutting off his circulation! Meantime, there is to much glare on Greta, taking away from Her features. But than again, I am my own worst critic I'm afraid! Actually, this Photo was apparently taken before the L. A. Premier of LOVE.
  9. Angie, Thanks for the photo's of Louise Brooks. I will colorize these too. Here is a photo I did of the great Marion Davies that I worked on several months ago.
  10. Here is a glimpse of the Number 4 lady on my list of Top 10 Silent Silent Screen Lovelies. The Stunning Jacqueline Logan. An exquisite big-eyed beauty. Most of Her films are lost, and she is probably best know today for her role as Mary Magdalene, in Cecil B. De Mille's THE KING OF KINGS (1927).
  11. ugaarte, Actually, My Top 10 list of Silent Screen Beauties from several months ago included these ladies. Unfortunately, I don't have good photo's of all the Gals mentioned here to work with or post. Here is a recap of the 10 names that I chose. The order has been shuffled slightly, but retains the same names as it had before. Some people agreed with the list while others did not. Again these are just the actresses that I considered to be the most beautiful, not necessarily the ones that I like the best. A glaring omission from the group is the name of Mary Duncan! After seeing what remains of Frank Borzage's THE RIVER (1928), I might even be tempted to rate her in the Top 3 or 4? Maybe even Number 1! But Duncan did not look quite the same in F. W. Murna's CITY GIRL, had to check and make sure it was the same lady??? Gagman's Patented Hubba-Hubba Rating's Scale: TOP TEN SILENT SCREEN BEAUTIES LIST: 1. Corinne Griffith 2. Delores Costello 3. Dorothy Janis 4. Jacqueline Logan 5. Olive Thomas 6. Marceline Day 7. Mary Philbin 8. Esther Ralston 9. Camillia Horn 10. Vilma Banky While they did not make this list, I still like Janet Gaynor, Colleen Moore, Laura La Plante, Lillian Gish, and Jobyna Ralston very much. All of them were exceedingly darling little things. So were Mary Pickford, Clara Bow, Bessie Love, and numerous others. Renee Adoree was perhaps not quite as dainty, but She is still one of my very favorites. Ditto for Eleanor Boardman, Phyllis Haver, Bebe Daniels and so on! I had tinkered with this list several times before submitting anything. I figured that the final result may raise a few eyebrows? I actually had Marion Davies listed in the top 7 or so at one point. Unfortunately, I had to drop Laura La Plante, and Jobyna Ralston from the Top 10 as well. Here is a short list of the other Actresses that I was considering. Among those not previously noted, Honorable Mention went to the following: Jetta Goudal, Marion Nixon, Virginia Lee Corbin, Anita Page, Mary Nolan, Jane Daly, Patsy Ruth Miller, Greta Garbo, Vera Reynolds Dorothy Sebastian, Dorothy Gish, Getrude Olmsted, Mary Miles Minter, Madge Bellamy, Louise Brooks, Olive Bordon, June Collyer, Betty Bronson, Greta Nissen, Olga Baclanova, Alice White, Mary Brian, Jeanne Eagels, Kathryn McGuire, Ruth Roland, Evelyn Brent, Madeleine Herlock, Mary Astor, Delores Del Rio, Barbara Kent, Betty Compson, Gloria Swanson, Norma Shearer, Edith Jehanne, and on, and on, and on! Wow! A whole lot of really good looking ladies to be sure! Maybe I need to pick a Top 25 instead of a Top 10? And it still isn't very easy to decide.
  12. *Two superb pictures of the Iconic Louise Brooks! Really need more Photos of good quality! So send me your Photo's of Louise to Color!*
  13. ugaarte, Yes, I choose my own colors, but the color is not predetermined in any way. It just happens. I never know what colors I will end up with until completed. Even then, I may still go back months later and make some subtle changes here and there. I've already posted allot on Corinne Griffith, and Laura La Plante. So here are some more beautiful gals of the period. Starting with the Woman who was Number Two on my initial list several months ago (after Corinne) of Top 10 Silent Screen Beauties. The Stunning Delores Costello. As I colorized these images several months apart I now notice, that the eye color in both photo's of Costello is different? I will have to find out the true color, and go back and fix this matter.
  14. CelluloidKid, Already posted allot on Corinne Griffith, and Laura La Plante. So here are some more beautiful gals of the period. Starting with the Woman who was number two on my initial list several months ago (after Corinne) of Top 10 Silent Screen Beauties. The Stunning Delores Costello. *Whoops, worked on these several months apart, and the eye=color is inconsistent? Will need to do some reserch. I thought Delores had Brown Eyes? Anyone know for sure?* *Two superb pictures of the Iconic Louise Brooks! Really need more Photos of good quality!* *Definitely, need more photos of this lady. The very lovely Marceline Day. If anyone has any good stills of her from THE BELOVED ROGUE, please post!* *Pretty good photo of Eleanor Boardman for some costume drama. Probably Frank Borzage's THE CIRCLE, or King Vidor's PROUD FLESH? Looking for some better pictures.* *This second photo of Eleanor is probably from the early 20's? And my does she look uncommonly handsome here!* *A Redheaded Betty Compson. Looking very little like the Dangerous Blonde Val, from Von Sternberg's THE DOCKS OF NEW YORK.* *The enigmatic Billie Dove, who did not appear to wearing a Top of any kind in this photograph??? I needed to invent one! LO!*
  15. TheMovieDude, Hello! Welcome to the forum, and to this thread! To bad that allot of it is no longer here. You would have enjoyed it signifcantly more a few weeks back.
  16. Wow! Amazingly enough, I found a much higher resolution graphic of the same still-photo! A little larger, and less cropped than the other one had been. Now let's see how this one looks posted here?
  17. laffite, Thanks for the information, but amazingly enough, I found a higher resolution graphic of the very same Still-photo! A little larger, and less cropped than the other one had been. Now let's see how this one looks posted here? Had to colorize this same photo twice in one evening. It is a slightly different hue here and there, but might be an improvement? Although I like the shade of Gilbert's suit better in the first one.
  18. Karin, I just finished colorizing this still of Gilbert and Garbo a little earlier this evening. Kind of a low resolution image though of Diana, and Neville, from Clarence Brown's A WOMAN OF AFFAIRS. Otherwise it would look great. Didn't you have a larger and better quality graphic of a similar image to this one? I thought that you had posted a still something like this awhile back?
  19. Fred, Ah, don't you think that this is just a Tad to much? Or maybe I should say a Tad to little? Check that more, than just a Tad.. So I guess the term Candid now includes "Nudes" in the definition? Err, sorely tempted to break out the Tempest Storm, Betty Page, Jackie Miller, Candy Barr, and Donna Brown photo's now, but wisely I resisted the notion! Whoops!
  20. Yipes! Oh No! I didn't expect it to post that small! It is much more tiny than what I worked with? I wonder why this is? Hope I am not running into the same trouble as Thelma had? That would not be good!
  21. Ed, I just finished colorizing this still of Gilbert and Garbo a few minutes ago. The graphic is fairly weak and small, so I am not sure how it is going to hold up here? Kind of a low resolution image of Diana, and Neville, from Clarence Brown's A WOMAN OF AFFAIRS. Otherwise it would look great.
  22. Fred, Wow! Thanks allot, this proves that it is not a composite image, and is in-fact the real thing! I knew it couldn't be a fake! Neat. Do you have a year to go with the photo? By the way, where did you find this at anyway?
  23. Film_Fatale While It might look like a composite image people. I honestly don't believe that it is. I will try to find the same photo eleswhere to prove that it is not.
  24. laffite, Here is the original photo as it was stored on my slave-drive. As you can see, It is not exactly Black And White to start with, but rather lightly toned.
