  1. Debbie,

Don't forget Gilbert, and Garbo in Clarence Brown's A WOMAN OF AFFAIRS (1928), later this on morning. They are running FLESH AND THE DEVIL (1926) too with Gilbert, Garbo, Lars Hanson, and Barbara Kent, a little earlier, But that is shown fairly often, and is on DVD. A WOMAN OF AFFAIRS isn't on DVD, and hasn't been broadcast in a long, long, time!

Great supporting cast, with Johnny Mack Brown, Douglas Fairbanks Junior, Louis Stone, and Dorothy Sebastian! Be sue to get this recorded what ever you do! One of Garbo's very best films, rather Silent, or Sound! Although my favorite Garbo, THE SINGLE STANDARD (1929), is not being broadcast?

  2. I need to express my sincere graditude and appreciation to TCM programmer, for all his efforts in getting the North American TCM premier of Tod Browning's/Lon Chaney's THE BLACK BIRD (MGM, 1926) on the October schedule!

Check it out, the brand new restoration is now slated for the 26 th of the month, to debut on Silent Sunday Nights. Thank you very much Sir. This was most generous and thoughtful of you.

And a heartfelt thanks to all of you who requested, and inquired about this movie on your own, and on my behalf as well, over the past month, or so. This is certainly proof positive that TCM does listen to it's core audience and cares about the fans. Congratulations to all of you!

Nothing has been officially announced as far as I know? It was supposed to be out this year, and with any luck they will include THE BLACKBIRD at the last minute in addition to the titles previously mentioned?

Here's one Chaney feature that's long overdue for a DVD release. What a great movie, and with William Haines, and Eleanor Boardman too!:

  5. Film_Fatale,

Yes, and in addition of ORPHANS in November, don't forget in October is the North American TCM premier of Tod Browning's THE BLACK BIRD (MGM, 1926), with Chaney, Renee Adoree, and Owen Moore! The 2005 restoration with a Robert Israel score. Again my sincere thanks to TCM programer for making this all happen!

Incidentally, I thought Dr. Faustus was a Captain America villain?

It's FOUR CLOWNS (1969) Laurel And Hardy. Charley Chase, and Buster Keaton. Not the Four that you expected? Me neither. But it's a very nice compilation nevertheless. I have the 2 Stan and Ollie ones as well. Also featuring a healthy dose of Chase, and Max Davidson.

You forgot DAYS OF THRILLS AND LAUGHTER (1962), which I have not seen since the early 80's. Never saw 3O YEARS OF FUN at all. Hadn't even heard of it, until just recently. I'm not sure what year this was released?

  8. Hey, I love Natalie Wood, one of the great beauties ever, and a wonderful actress. She also had a terrific sounding voice, which some of the Stars of that era definitely didn't have. I am delighted to hear about the box set, because I had known nothing about it previously. Thanks much.

  9. Scottman, Everyone,

Wanted to be sure to mention, TCM programmer has informed me, that this version of D. W. Griffith's ORPHANS OF THE STORM (1921) with the Gish Sisters, is in-fact the brand new Kevin Brownlow-Patrick Stansbury restoration from Photo-play Productions produced in 2004! It has not been broadcast in the United States before, and hasn't been released on DVD either. So you will be seeing both a TCM, and American Television Premier come November! Thank you so very much TCM Programmer!

  11. Susan,

I'm so sorry to hear this. My Uncle has Mouth Cancer, and is having an operation to remove a Tumor on the 20th of this month.

My Dad passed away 11 years ago this past July, of Liver Cancer, and my Barrettes is a condition that needs to be consistently monitored, as I myself I'm very much at risk. Especially considering how prevalent Cancer is in my family history. I can certainly relate. Best of luck to you and your family during this difficult period. Hope that everything turns out well.

SHE'S A SHEIK (Paramount, 1927) Movie Poster. Bebe Daniels, with Richard Arlen, and William Powell. Portions were filmed in Two-Color Technicolor. This may or may not be a lost film.

  14. Johanna,

Wow, Renee is extremely pretty here. However, it almost looks like Gilbert is feeding her a Cigarette like my old pet Deer John! You can't tell that it's a stick of Chewing Gum really? Or can you???

Here I just spruced up the image a little, though I will probably Colorize this one later on. Really a great Still! Thanks.

Need to get back to bed now. Have a nice morning.

  15. Johanna,

Sure, you can patch it up if you want to? I guess I didn't see the scratches earlier. I use a combination of Adobe Photo-shop, and Microsoft-Picture It. The two Night-time-Blue ones though, I used only Picture It. Took only a few minutes to spruce up each one of these production stills.

I am very picky about the tints, they have to appear just so. I don't like anything that looks fake. I probably could do this with actual video, given the right software? Maybe one of these days?

  16. Johanna,

Did you see the photo when I re-posted it? Just looks amazing, and I didn't colorize it. I never did anything but hit two auto-settings, levels, and Contrast. The color information was already there. It just had to be brought out, because the photo was faded, and dark. Go take a look. This is probably very close to the look of the 2-Strip Technicolor footage in the original film.

Oh, what the heck, allot of people probably didn't see this before. So here it is again!

  17. Johanna,

Here are the Production Stills you posted Tinted in Traditional Silent Era tones. Probably very close to what the original film looked liked in intial release.

  18. Johanna,

Wow!!!! The Action still on the Battlefield looks awesome! I could try colorizing these, but they would probably look better just tinted? Thanks allot.

Where are you finding all this stuff? Did you see that the one you posted of Gilbert the other day in His Dough Boy Cap was really Two-Color Technicolor?

Incidentally, all you need is the syntec code in front of and at the end of the link, and these photo's should show up here on the forum. Obviously, that took me a long time to figure out too.
