  1. Wendy, Ugaarate, The *Children of Divorce* still was blown up from a tiny source. So it could be allot better. I wish I could find a larger graphic. This one was also very small. Looks OK, but obviously severely cropped. Did you get to see the Silent version of *ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT* the other day? *Renee Adoree and Antonio Moreno from THE FLAMING FOREST (1926)*
  2. ugaarte, I haven't found the photo yet, but I believe it was Mary Miles Minter. The other pic you asked about is also Billie Dove. Glad that you are enjoying the posts. *Esther Ralston-"Precious Undies"*
  3. *Esther Ralston and Clara Bow in a dramatic sequence from CHILDREN OF DIVORCE (1927)*
  4. ugaarte, Again, Welcome back. Be sure to go through the *Silent Crushes* Thread as well. There are many, many photos, Lobby-cards, posters, etc, in that thread which I have not posted at all in this one.I whish that the original thread in General Discussions could still be used for posting photos. They have never repaired that part of the forum. *Corinne Criffith-1920 Picture-Play Portrait*
  5. {font:Arial}Revisionist History has it that the Silents came to an abrubt end with the THE JAZZ SINGER in 1927, But this is far from the case. Silents were still being made in China as late as 1937. Many Theaters patrons especilly in smaller rule areas never even heard a Talking picture until Mid 1931. Thusly. several studios kept releasing both Sound and Silent versions of the same films. I wrote these comments last night in another thread after seeing the Silent version of ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT. The LOC had just completed the restoration in 2009, so this made it to TCM very quickly. which was amazing. Meantime, we are still waiting for the THE BIG PARADE restoration from 2004 to turn up. *"Wow! The print quality was for the most part truly exceptional. Although some footage is still lost, the Library of Congress did an outstanding job on restoring the film. I never thought that I would see this version broadcast on TCM. I am so pleased that it was shown, and only two years after the restoration was completed by the LOC. It was rather odd seeing several scenes with only sound effects and no music. Not used to that.* *While I am grateful for the opportunity, forgive me if I still like THE BIG PARADE allot better. And I honestly don't think that ALL QUIET would have been made at all if THE BIG PARADE hadn't come first. Now, when are we finally going to see the 2004 restoration that I've been waiting 7 years to see??? I mean even WINGS is coming soon, and hopefully we will see the brand new restoration on TCM in February.* *I'm thrilled over WHAT PRICE GLORY? (1926), debuting in November. That was a major surprise. However, the Thames Silent version of THE BIG PARADE produced clear back in 1985 is still the only thing the TCM has been able to show. And where oh, where is LILAC TIME? Will it ever appear on TCM, or be released trough Warner Archive?* *This was a great evening of rarely seen delights. I am a little miffed that Mary Pickford's SPARROWS is airing again at such a poor time. When it premiered back in April it was on at Dawn than. Same thing again. Jeffrey Mark Silverman's new score is excellent."* {font:Arial} {font} {font}
  6. [~ugaarte] Hey, Welcome back to the boards. You have been souly missed! [~ugaarte]
  7. *Betty Compson-"Leopard Parka"*
  8. We need help on this one. This might be anyone from Mae Murray, to Anna Q. Nilsson, to Betty Compson. Or it could be someone else all together? Can't be sure?
  9. *Dorothy Sebastian-"Sweet Bird Of Paradise"* *Belle Bennet-"Big Blonde Hair"*
  10. Wendy, Scottman, Bronxi, Etc, Say did you know that Gwen was born in Hastings Nebraska? Only a short ways from where most of my family lived in Grand Island. *Gwen Lee-"Circus Outfit"*
  11. *Cecil B. De Mille-"The King Of Kings" (1927) Painted Lobby-Card.*

  13. This is truly Spectacular! *Jacqueline Logan-"The King Of Kings"-Lobby-card-1927*
  14. Scottman, ' Thanks. Here's my Gal! *Colleen Moore-"Glitz and Glamor"*
  15. Scottman, Can you burn me a copy of *THREE WHO LOVED?* I owe you some stuff. I have a good print of *DANGEROUS CURVES* if you are interested. The AMPAS programs were great. Thanks much. When my inbox collapsed I think I lost your current E-mail address. The old one doesn't work. Just keeps bouncing. Still don't have a new Hard-drive recorder. I might have to reley on you to get the Silent version of *ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT* recorded too if that is OK?
  16. Bronxi, Interesting video, but is that *LADY OF SPAIN* as the first piece? I have not seen *BLOOD AND SAND* in a long time. I know that Rudy was displeased with the climax because Paramount promised it would be shot in Spain, but they cut corners and made the entire film on the studio backlot. Don't really remember the picture all that well. I have seen many other Valentino films several times eac, but not *BLOOD AND SAND.* Wendy, Yes, I know that *THE POWER AND THE GLORY* is on Sunday. Believe it or not I have never seen it beyond the first 15 minutes or so. Still extremely disappointed that *REDEMPTION* was pulled Monday Morning for the Cliff Robertson tribute.Did anyone see that Pre-code with Conrad Nagle and Betty Compson that aired the other day?
  17. musicalnovelty, Thanks for finding these rare Colleen Moore stills for me. I sincerely appreciate it. *THE POWER AND GLORY* Is on Sunday. This might be a TCM Premiere since it is a Fox film? Madigrind, I colorized the first still. You can see the results in the Silent Crushers thread.I have a few Lobby-Cards and a trade Ad or two for *SMILING IRISH EYES* I have uploaded in the past.
  18. Wendy, It's not really an Ad for *GIRL SHY* specifically, just Harold Lloyd's feature comedies in general. Emphasizing how they bring in the gals! Have lots of rare Harold Ad's I could post here.Graphics are very large though. Need to reduce them in size first. Meantime, this is a new find: *Renee Adoree-"Dreams Of Paris"*
  19. He's got all the Pretty Young Ladies in A Tizzy! *Lo! Move Over Rudy! Rare 1924 Trade Ad*
  20. *Colleen Moore and James Hall-"Dance Like Yor Irish!"*
  21. Ginny, Note, there is a Ford At Fox set with about 12 discs that also has early talkies. It is very expensive. But the there is also a Ford at Fox Box set that has just the Silents I mentioned for much cheaper.
  22. {font:Times New Roman}You can buy this movie as part of the 5 disc Ford At Fox Silents Box set. Which also includes *JUST PALS (1921), THE IRON HORSE (1925)* in 2 versions, *3 BAD MEN (1926),* and *HANGMAN'S HOUSE (1928).* A terrific collection of rare titles, though I wish it had featured a few more than it does. Looking for my Color Trade Ad's to *FOUR SONS.* *OK, here are a couple pages:* {font} {font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:Times New Roman} {font}
  23. Hi, the film you are describing is John Ford's *FOUR SONS (1928)* with Margarette Mann, James Hall, Ralph Bushman, June Collyer, Etc. Actually, the early part of the picture is set in Bavaria, not Germany. Though strangely overlooked by the Academy for a nomination, this picture won the Photoplay Magazine Medal of Honor as the best film of 1928 from the fans. If is on DVD, and has been shown on TCM. Unfortunately, it is not availble with the original Fox Movie-tone score, which is so powerful. Instead it was given a new score that does not do this great motion picture justice.
