  1. There is another Clarie Windsor portrait that I worked on last night. Whoops, it's allot bigger than I thought that it was. Will need to reduce the size of the image.

  2. Wendy,

It's interesting that Clarie Windsor was originally scheduled to play the Lady Roxalanne in *BARDLEYS THE MAGNIFICENT,* and not Eleanor Boardman. It's mentioned in a 1925 issue of Photoplay. They also bring up that *BARDLEYS* was expected to be produced in Two-Color Technicolor, lauding Windsor's lovely redish blonde hair, and large blue eyes.

Here is a link to the LOC screening of the Rudy picture: The Irony is that we were just discussing this film on another board on Sunday. Talking about how rarely *MONSIEUR BEAUCAIRE* is screened, and is among the least known of Valentino's major surviving features today.

  3. I'm still disappointed that TCM did not play *THE BLACKBIRD (1926).* It is one of the best of the MGM Chaney's, Tod Browning collaborations, and it features Renee Adoree. Plus TCM has only aired the film one time in October of 2008, and I had something to do with that because originally they had a tough time finding the restoration produced with a Robert Israel score in 2005. For the guy who didn't liek *MOCKERY,* I don't get it because I had heard how bad this was, but when it debuted a couple years ago I found it to be one of Lon's most underrated films.

*THE UNKNOWN* is not complete. I don't know exactly how much is missing, but at least a reel and probably more is still lost. Same with *LAUGH CLOWN LAUGH.* And of course we have yet to see a true restoration of the 1925 *PHANTOM OF THE OPERA* the 1925 film is very different picture and far superior to the continuity of the 1929 re-issue which is what the Photoplay Restoration is based on. That being said. , I am glad that TCM is still running the Phtotplay Productions version with the great Carl Davis score, because it is now out of print on DVD from Image. In-fact, Image Entertainment is replacing it with a brand new version in October, and it will not have the Carl Dais music, even as an alternate track.

*TELL IT TO THE MARINES, THE BLACKBIRD,* and *WEST OF ZANZIBAR* have still yet to be released by Warner Archive.

  4. filmlover,

Hey, I never said that I didn't like the pictures, and for the record I only looked at the first couple of pages. The most recent posts. There is some great stuff included, and most of it is pretty rare to boot. I just mentioned that several of the photos that I viewed did not look like genuine color photography. To pronounced and over saturated in some places. Just a quick observation, and not necessarily accurate on my part. Please don't be offended by my comments. there was no intention to offend anyone.

  5. OK, I'm new to this thread and a little lost, but many of these pictures look like rather bad colorizations, rather than true color photos? I've stayed away from this, because I didn't think that colorized images were allowed here. That doesn't seem to be the case.

So here we go with some of my more recent work.

  7. Cobolt,

You don't make any effort to understand Silent film, and thus have no right whatsoever to berate it. I have over a 1,000 Silent featrures in my collection, plus no idea how many shorts. And yet I am far from content. The more that you see, the more that you want to see. There are so many Silents that are completely inaccessible. And over 73% of all silent films are lost forever. Forgive me if I get angry at someone like you who wants to further repress a great art form. All my favorite movies are Silent Films. I offer no apologies for this, that's just the way it is. Alfred Hitchcock was asked to name his 10 favorite movies, and 8 of them were Silents. That alone should tell you that the medium was impact-full, profound, worthy of serious study and your respect.

  8. Jonas,

Great News. This will be the brand new restoration of *WPG* that David Shepard was talking about back in May too. Now if we could just get the restored *THE BIG PARADE* that was screened in LA las month at AMPAS. I've been waiting for over seven years. When I last spoke with Chuck Tabesh a couple months ago He said that he hoped *WHAT PRICE GLORY?* would debut before the end of the year. Don't forget the fully restored *WINGS* is expected to be released on DVD and possibly Blu-ray in November or December as well.

Also wanted to mention this, it's possible that *OLIVER TWIST* will be a new transfer on Monday for Lon Chaney day. Both *THE SHEIK* and *SON OF THE SHEIK* were revised editions from Film Preservation Associates over the current Image DVD's. So *OLIVER TWIST* could be as well. Don't have the Chaney schedule in front of me, what other early Universals are they airing? Those might just be new transfers too?

  9. *Colleen Moore* has a survival rate of about 47%. That isn't to bad. Yet not even *IRENE, LILAC TIME* or the recently restored *HER WILD OAT* have been shown on TCM. *Billie Dove* I forgot to mention. To my knowledge, none of her Silent films even Fairbanks *THE BLACK PIRATE,* have ever been shown on TCM, and just three talkies. *Clara Bow* has over 40 films that still exist. Only *DOWN THE SEA IN SHIPS, IT, WINGS, THE WILD PARTY,* and maybe *CALL HER SAVAGE* have been on TCM. The later two titles over a decade ago. Among the Talkies *HOOPLA* might debut late this year or early next, since it was part of the TCM Classics Film Festival in April.
