  1. Bronxi, The Photoplay Productions print of *THE EAGLE* is mastered from the original camera negative. The Thames Silents version also with a great Carl Davis musical score was on Laser-disc, but has yet to pop up on official DVD. I have it on DVD-R. It would be nice to see the Photoplay restoration shown on TCM.
  2. I've had TCM since May 1st 1999. To the best of my knowledge, they have not aired *THE MAN WHO LAUGHS* during that time frame. The film is still technically owned by Universal, Kino had a deal with them for a few titles awile back. I agree that it should be shown during Conrad Veidt day. Just as *THE BLACKBIRD* would have been a good choice for Lon Chaney day. *BLACKBIRD* has only aired one time, isn't on DVD, and it is among the best perserved of Chaney's MGM fatures. Plus it has a terrific Robert Israel score. And what's more Renee Adoree is the leading lady.
  3. My favorite program thus far was the TCM *FRAGMENTS* special produced with Flicker Alley. It was great seeing these glimpses of the lost films, and finally a little bit of Colleen Moore on TCM after waiting for a decade. Now if we could just get a premiere of *LILAC TIME* or any of her surviving First National features before the end of he year. It was also nioce seeing the debut of the newly restored *SPARROWS* in April Raoul Walsh *WHAT PRICE GLORY? (1926)* should be coming in the remaing months. Probably in November. A brand new restoration that has never been shown on TCM or anywhere else before. I'm amazed that TCM fit the bill for a new transfer of a Fox Silent. Has to be a first. I'm excited that *WPG* will be shown, but I still would have perferred a restored print of *LILAC TIME.*
  4. Bronxie, Haven't had time to look at all these links. I will do so later today Thanks. *Phyllis Haver-"Sweetie Cakes"-1922* *Renee Adoree and Lew Cody-1927* *Colleen Moore-Perky And Peppy-SYNTHETIC SIN (1928)* *Kay Francis and Clara Bow-1929*
  5. Sensational 2 Page spread Color Ad's for Janet Gaynor in STREET ANGEL and Dolores Del Rio in THE RED DANCE. Notice that both actresses received Top Billing over leading Man Charles Farrell. If someone want to splice these pages together be my guest. I don't know how to do this smoothly.
  6. Dorothy Mackaill-"Just Another Blonde" (1926)
  7. *Charles Farrell, Dolores Del Rio-Red Dance (1928)*
  8. *Dolores Del Rio and Victor McLaglen-LOVES OF CARMEN (1927)*
  9. *Baby Peggy-Little Red Riding Hood-1922*
  10. *"John Gilbert-Coming Attractions Ad-1923"*
  11. *"Phyllis Hang On There Haver (1922)*
  12. If you do see a TV Show from the 50's or 60's on Commercial Television today, it is so badly condensed and re-edited that the episodes are now a pale shadow of what they once were. This is because there is about 30% more commercial time than when these series were made. When BBC America was running re-runs of *THE AVENGERS* and *THE NEW AVENGERS,* the episodes must have been cut by more than 12 to 13 minutes a piece. Literally, Butchered! That's heartbreaking to me, because *THE AVENGERS* is my all-time favorite show. Not having a chance for young people to see the stories as they were originally produced is extremely frustrating.
  13. Scottman, Wow, *REDEMPTION!* Really? What day is it on. Couldn't find this on the schedule. This movie was made in 1929 prior to the infamous *HIS GLORIOUS NIGHT.* Gilbert hated the picture and begged MGM to shelve it. They did so for many months, but unexpectedly released what would have been his first Talkie, much to Jack's dismay, after *HIS GLORIOUS NIGHT* had tanked. *REDEMPTION* has a tremendous cast if it were a Silent film with Eleanor Boardman, Renee Adoree, and Conrad Nagel. Wasn't this actually more or less a sound remake of *WIFE OF THE CENTAUR (1924)?* The plot, story and setting seems virtually the same as the earlier King Vidor film. Nice to see a rebroadcast of *THE VANISHING AMERICAN,* never aired on Silent Sundays in the brand new restoration which premiered just over a year ago on TCM., Also a rebroadcast of the newly restored and scored edition of Mary Pickford's *SPARROWS.* Though the again it is airing at a poor time. *THE POWER AND THE GLORY* is one of Colleen Moore's only three surviving talkies. But I still hope for a couple of her long unseen Silents before the end of 2011.
  14. I don't know about you guys but I am all Godzilled Out. The last one I had not seen before, but I sure didn't miss much. They re-used several shots from earlier films. To be frank, the only Godzilla in the whole series that I really liked is the one with the flying Karate Robot that grows Giant-sized called J Jaguar. Tag teams with the big G against another Monster menace. Don't remember the title, but I recall seeing it when it first came out in the states about 1975 or 76 Not anxious to see another Godzilla movie anytime soon unless it is that one.
  15. OK, I'm sorry. Looks like it is 1923? I'm searching the TCM Data Base listing now. Doesn't tell me much. I thought it was '23, but typed '24 for some reason? The reason I thought it was '24, is that both the lost HOLLYWOOD, and SOULS FOR SALE came out in 1923 as well. It could still be Renee, because harold Lloyd isn't listed either. Trying to find Bessie Love.
  16. Wendy, I'm back. Sorry I had to leave for 5.30 Mass. I'm going to try to find out everyone who appeared in this picture. Also posted a couple new Esther Ralston photos in the "Crushes" thread. Amazing news about WPG, but it apparently isn't a done deal yet. Still additional rights issues to be cleared up according to Chuck Tabesh. Thought he did not elaborate. Been to busy. Note, I posted three clips from *LILAC TIME* on TCM CFU.
  17. I don't know for sure? Mary Pickford definitely is. I'd like to think the photo in the middle is Renee Adoree, but it probably isn't? Looks allot like her. Curious to see what happens with this movie. Would be nice to see it on TCM after being restored.
  18. Wendy, Alice Terry is in there. Pola Negri, Tom Moore. Walter Hires. The girl is holding a photo of Harold Lloyd in her hand.
  19. Yes the original process was based on Red and Green as primary colors. But don't blame TCM. Have you seen THE BLACK PIRATE Blue-ray that Kino released in December? The Sea should not be so bluish, but Green. Two-color (not Two-strip), Technicolor isn't easy to replicate and restore. Although it was done with BP, they just didn't release the newer restoration that the BFI has. Here is a big thread from Nitrateville on THE BLACK PIRATE release from a few months ago. There is another on THE VIKING, which also mentions WHOOPEE that I am looking for. http://nitrateville.com/viewtopic.php?t=7314
  20. This rare film was recently discovered in New-Zealand and is being restored. Look at all the Cameo's! Can you name them?
  21. *Dolores Costello and Conrad Nagel-GLORIOUS BETSY (1928)*
  22. *Esther Ralston-"Spring Blossoms"*
  23. *Esther Ralston and Betty Bronson-"Wand of Wishes"-A Kiss For Cinderella (1925)*
