  1. I have not been able to log in to TCM Classic Film Union since last night. Anyone else having the same problem? Please let me know. Thanks.
  2. *THE BLACKBIRD (1926),* or *THE BLACK BIRD* as the TCM Movie Data Base has it listed, has only aired once on the American TCM. That was in October of 2008. The film Starrs Lon Chaney, Renee Adoree, and Owen Moore. Directed by Tod Browning.
  3. gatester, Mark, I'll attempt to contact Chuck Tabesh next week and see if I can find out what He knows concerning both *WHAT PRICE GLORY?* and *WINGS,* based on David Shepard's comments? I have not talk to Mr. Tabesh in at least 4 or 5 months. Maybe longer... Also might ask why *THE BLACKBIRD* is not part of Lon Chaney day in August? Though it is probably to late to make any potential change. Robert Osborne may have already recorded his introductions and closing comments?
  4. Mark, Don't forget about *TELL IT TO THE MARINES* Sunday! Great Print, Terrific Robert Israel score, and Three Big Stars Lon Chaney, William Haines and Eleanor Boardman. This film is easily 10 times better than *SPEEDWAY,* last week. Was nice to see that again but really kind of a silly programer. Still noteworthy as Haines and Anita Page's final Silent film. But *TELL IT TO THE MARINES* is really a great picture. MGM's second highest grossing release of the year behind only *FLESH AND THE DEVIL* in 1926. And not yet on DVD either.
  5. Huge news tonight. The renowned historian/archivist David Shepard of Film Preservation Associates confirms that TCM has paid for a brand new digital transfer of Raoul Walsh famous, but long unseen 1926 Silent War Drama *WHAT PRICE GLORY?* So, the question is why isn't this on the Memorial Day schedule this year? The movie which Stars Victor McLaglen, Edmund Lowe and Dolores Del Rio has not been shown on Television since the old AMC aired the 1930 Movie-tone track re-issue way back in 1996.Based on the popular stage play, *WHAT PRICE GLORY?* was one of Fox's major films of the 1920's. It also produced the Popular Standard *"CHARMAINE"* written for the films score by the Prolific duo of Erno Rapee' And Lew Pollack. Here is the surprising quote on Nitrateville: *"TCM has paid for a digital restoration from a full aperture 35mm silent print and a separate element with the Movietone score. It looks/sounds very nice. Sooner or later they will remember it's there and will schedule it for transmission."* *David Shepard* This is truly incredible news! Especially since it is a Fox feature? Not MGM or Warner Brothers.WPG you may remember had been on the schedule last year for Memorial Day, but was ultimately replaced by John Ford's *FOUR SONS (1928).* Although, not with the original Movie-tone score. Though not with the Movie-tone Track. Sunday they are airing Lon Chaney's *TELL IT TO THE MARINES* again. Last featured during the Memeorial Day line-up in 2006. Though not really a War movie. Again, I wonder why WHAT PRICE wasn't rescheduled for this year? So that leaves me to ponder, What about Colleen Moore's *LILAC TIME (1928)* with Gary Cooper??? Not to mention Richard Barthelmess *THE PATENT LEATHER KID (1927)*. Both of which Warner's owns. Dare we hope for Pola Negri's *BARBED WIRE (1927).* A Paramount film so unlikely. Shepard had already confirmed the new version of *WINGS (1927)* forth-coming. Although, rather that is for DVD/Blu-ray, TCM one of the other or both is not clear? I'm still waiting for word on King Vidor's *THE BIG PARADE* as well. Will we ever see the 2004 restoration? I will keep people posted as I acquire additional information. Maybe TCM has *WHAT PRICE GLORY?* reserved for Veterans day this year. Possibly the newly restored *WINGS* as well? Although, I would give anything for the new master's of *THE BIG PARADE,* and *LILAC TIME?* At least we know that the new versions of *WINGS* and WPG are on the way. Now I have to try and reach TCM programmer Chuck Tabesh and see what He knows about this? Last year it didn't appear that Fox even had a Studio print of WPG in it's archive. Miracles do happen! I'm very gratified, but unlike most people I have already seen WPG many times. So personally anything with Colleen Moore would be the best possible news to me. Starting with *LILAC TIME.* But if it's *BROKEN CHAINS, IRENE, TWINKLETOES, HER WILD OAT,* anything we haven't seen on TCM before, I would be happy. Who Knows? Since TCM seems to be working more with Fox, maybe they could some how rustle up a transfer of Howard Hawks *FIG LEAVES* with Olive Borden and George O' Brien? I doubt if it has ever been shown on Television in any form before?
  6. Gatester, Lo! I would be fairly pleased with $65.00 a month! I am currently paying $80.00 and it is going up again soon! (Grumble, Grumble.) Can't really afford it. At least we know that the new versions of *WINGS* and *WPG* are on the way. Now I have to try and reach TCM programmer Chuck Tabesh and see what He knows about this? Last year it didn't appear that Fox even had a Studio print of *WPG* in it's archive. Miracles do happen! I'm very gratified, but unlike most people I have already seen *WPG* many times. 8. Lynn, No it isn't. I have a surround sound system and it works fine if I play back a DVD. At least two of the six speakers are dead when on TCM. This was never the case before. Volume is easily 5 times as loud on any other channel also. I have tried a dozen different settings and nothing helps. I have the volume cranked about as high as it will go, on the movie right now and if I step out of the room, I can barely hear a dang thing. Hey, I'm also still awaiting the day when I can actually post a graphic in this forum again too.
  9. For the past week or so, TCM has had a consistent very low volume level. I have never had this problem before. I have had trouble with distortion before last Summer. Audio Volume level was never an issue though. Well It is now, and I am growing weary of it fast. What happened? Is anyone else having the same issue? I mean the volume is far less than half of what it had been previously. Driving me nuts! At first I thought it was my equipment. Not so at all. A few nights ago the audio got really loud, I assume back to normal, but it only lasted a short time and leveled off again. Lack of volume on TCM is frankly to the ridiculous stage! This needs to be corrected immediately! TCM will continue to drive patrons away if they refuse to put their house in order!
  10. Wendy, Two reels are missing from surviving prints of *ELLA CINDERS (1926).* It was originally a 7 reel feature. Only prints based on the continuity of the 16 Millimeter Kodascope libraries 5 reel abridgement are known to exist. And apparently nothing is left in 35 Millimeter. Those missing two reels are high on my wish list to be rediscovered. We don't see Colleen in the dazzling outfit pictured in the split Image drawing, and by itself in other ad's, posters, and in stills. That footage is now lost. It is the same thing with the missing reels from Betty Bronson's *ARE PARENTS PEOPLE? (1925)* Originally 8 reels, condensed to 5. And a very important film in Clara Bow's career Herbert Brenon's *DANCING MOTHERS (1926).* The Kodascope again having just 5 of the original 9 reels. It would be wonderful if a full-length 35 Millimeter print for these films were to surface. This Trade Ad for Marion Davies *THE YOUNG DIANA (1922)* a film I have barely heard of, so I'm sure it's lost, was part of an extravagant 4 page spread. All beautifully painted.
  11. *Colleen Moore-"WE MODERNS" (1925)* *Colleen-"IRENE" (1926)* *Colleen Moore-'ELLA CINDERS" (1926)*
  12. Ha, Ha, this is just to cute! *Bebe Daniels-"A GAME CHICKEN" (1920)*
  13. Wendy, There are at least three of these that I id not have Thanks.
  14. Well, I think sales would improve significantly with a much more user friendly website design. Also if they accepted Paypal. That wouldn't hurt either.
  15. Mark, Those posters are not colorized. They are vintage color lobby-cards. I had a couple more, but could not find them. Originally, there was a 10 Minute Two-Color Technicolor dream sequence in THE GARDEN OF EDEN, but sadly it can not be found in any surviving prints of the film.
  16. Mark, By the way, *THE GARDEN OF EDEN* originally had a 10 minute dream sequence in Two-Color Technicolor. Unfortunately, it is now missing from all surviving prints.
  17. Jonas, Oh, no. Yeah the score to *BEYOND THE ROCKS* was really poor. Destroyed the film. And a couple key scenes are missing. Does this mean that you missed *THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE* and *THE DIVINE LADY* last week?
  18. Lewis Milestone's enchanting THE GARDEN OF EDEN (1928) is airing for the first time on TCM in three years. The film is currently out of print on DVD from Flicker Alley and is not available. So don't miss this rare broadcast. Be sure to set your DVR. DVD-Recorder or what ever it is you use. THE GARDEN OF EDEN Stars two of the most forgotten and sadly neglected historically Super Stars of the Silent Era. Corinne Griffith and Charles Ray. With a terrific All-Star cast of players in support. One of the most delightful and entertaining movies you will ever see. There is scarcely a dull moment, with many plot twists and turns. Griffith was known mostly for her dramatic roles, but proves herself quite the skilled comedienne in this delightful romantic comedy. A 10 minute dream sequence was produced in Two-Color Technicolor, but is today missing from surviving prints of the film. The rest of the movie seems to be in-tact with no major damage to the story-line.The vast majority of Corinne Griffith films no longer survive and have been lost to us. That is one reason this picture is so precious. These posters are not colorized they are vintage Color Lobby-Cards. Corinne Griffith was considered along with Billie Dove, Dolores Costello, and Pola Negri among the screens most beautiful actresses of their time.
  19. Be sure to watch/record THE GARDEN OF EDEN tonight, if you want to see a great and extremely entertaining Silent.
  20. Mark I posted three Lobby-Cards for *THE GARDEN OF EDEN* In the Favorite Posters Of The Day thread. Not sure when they will ever get this part of the forum fixed. Of course I Love this movie and it is currently out of print on DVD.
  21. Lo, those are pretty Cool! Try these: Course I love this movie one of my favorites! And has been out of print on DVD for years. I assume allot of the members have already seen it, If not, set your DVR!
  22. Wendy, Check that, the Fragment of *OH KAY? (1928)* is held by the Film Museum of Amsterdam Sweden. Or maybe West Germany? Not sure which? How much of the movie I do not know. I'm sure that Hugh Hefner is aware of who Colleen Moore was. But He still turned the projects down for funding, which was disappointing. I was referring to the other guy that largely funded the restorations of about 7 to 10 Clara Bow features that were done at UCLA. I forget his name, but it is listed twice during the *FRAGMENTS* special. I believe he is *David Stenn?* I first learned about him from the man who heads the Chicago film Society about 3 years ago. Obviously I'm terrible with names, as I don't remember who he is either. Another Colleen Moore film *COME ON OVER* will be screened in a new restoration at the Museum Of Modern Art next month. Here is the notice posted yesterday on Nitrateville by Musician/historian Ben Model. *"Come On Over" will be shown at MoMA in a new 35mm print on June 1 at 7pm. Live accompaniment by yours truly with Ivan Goff on traditional Irish pipes, tin whistle, and flute.* *Ben*
  23. Wendy, No, I knew right away that it wasn't Theda Barra, and obviously not from the 1917 *CLEOPATRA* at all. But I received a message from said parties last night insisting that it was.. Obviously, they believe it to be from the film. Not exactly sure where they go the idea? Found on a old Video tape? I don't think so. Now if it turned out to be from *THE QUEEN OF SHEBA (Fox, 1921)* with Betty Blythe, that would be a pretty interesting find in it's own right. But it's probably from one of the Italian epics, and isn't even that rare. Frankly , would be far more excited if these guys claimed to have previously unknown scenes to *FLAMING YOUTH.* The Colleen Moore news though is authentic. Although, we don't have any firm details there either. Could be only brief fragments, Could be the entire film? Another Achieve, I believe it is the Nederland's Eye Institute, but I need to check for sure which one, has some material on still another Colleen Moore picture *OH' KAY! (1928),* but once again, I still need allot more information. Meantime, the guy at the Vita-phone project confirmed a few weeks ago that interest has revived in the long pending restoration *WHY BE GOOD?* But Hugh Hefner turned the project down. They are pursuing other options. Maybe the same person (can't think of his name), who has funded the restorations of all those Clara Bow films at UCLA? I'm not dsure He is even all that aware of Colleen Moore, but I sure hope so. If anyone needs a Champion with some deep pockets to help save and preserve there movies it is her.
  24. Scottman, Say, did you get the Package I sent you several days ago? Oh by the way, this Archive also has a Fragment of *OVER THE HILL TO THE POOR HOUSE,* and a reel of Ernst Lubitsch *THE PATRIOT!* Maybe these could be featured in a *FRAGMENTS TWO* documentary?
