musicalnovelty, Some three years ago they told me that these *Vita-phone Varieties* shorts were being restored, in advance of the Colleen Moore features *SYNTHETIC SIN,* and *WHY BE GOOD?* Those were supposed to be the next in line for the on-going Vita-phone project. So I hope that it is still the case? Apparently, the story on both of these films is that the prints that were found in Italy in 2003 had both once belonged to Antonio Moreno. They must have been found among the effects of his estate.

YIKES!!!! *"Harold And Oddities!"-1922 Photo*

Scottman, That's correct. Have to look up my recording. What did you think of the new score by Mont Alto Orchestra to THE GENERAL last night?

Wendy, I had trouble too, because the default was Rich Text. But when I switched to Plain Text, I could post normally. Many people are probably struggling with this. Haven't checked all the forums yet, but obviously this is a brand new feature. Not sure how it works as of yet? Hope that you are able to post now.

Johanna, The only two Silents with Ricardo Cortez which TCM airs that I can think of are Garbo's *TORRENT,* and Chaney's *THE MOCKERY*. Both of which are on DVD-R from Warner Archive. I have at least a couple more. James Cruze *THE PONY EXPRESS (1925)* with Betty Compson is one. I'll check and see what else I can find.

Joahanna, Wow! Thanks allot. You are correct it is Jack Holt! I should have been able to figure that out myself I would think. But I sure didn't. *Lillyan Tashman and Nita Naldi-"Pleasure and Temptation!"*

Johanna, I thought about it, but I don't think so. By the way, I have mentioned this in several threads, but I don't know if they are threads you have read or not? *THE GENERAL* is expected to have a new score tonight by Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra. First time this score has ever been heard on TCM. Also the the first time I will have heard it as well. Replacing the much maligned Alloy Orchestra score version TCM has run for the past 8 years. Recording *BIRTH OF A NATION* again too, because it was the superior Photoplay version in November (Should be again), and I neglected to get all of the broadcast. What did you think of *SPARROWS?* I just posted a still from the movie.

Rudolph Valentino in 'The Eagle' w/ live organ accompaniment- Jersey City
gagman66 replied to LoewsJersey's topic in Silent
Hi. Glad that you are getting to see this on the big screen in 35 Millimeter. But I don't know if it is the restored Photoplay print or not. Kevin Brownlow stuck from the original camera negative, Stunning quality. The current Kino DVD does not do the film justice by any means. Inferior print and score. The Photoplay version was on Laser-disc, but never DVD to date. *Banky and Valentino-THE EAGLE (1925)* -

Any idea who this guy is? Almost looks like Roland Young? *Nita Naldi-"Indisposed!"*

Wendy, A glimpse at the yarn of SPARROWS: *Mary Pickford-"Stand Back Mr. Grimes!"*

I got the whole recording. No one seemed to remember that *POOR LITTLE RICH GIRL* ran a little over schedule back in November. But I recorded a 4 hour block unto the hard-drive, so I didn't miss a thing. Burned the titles later individually. Turned out fine. I assume the DVD and or Blu-ray might be out by Summer, but who knows? Been saying that for three years now. TCM probably leased *SPARROWS* for several broadcasts. It might be on Silent Sunday Nights in a few months.

Wendy, Not sure who the other two girls are. One of them could be Gwen Lee, I will check the cast. *May McAvoy in "THE LITTLE SNOB"*

Wendy, Here is the Viola Pic that I mentioned. *Viola Dana-"Classic Profile"*

Wendy, Here is the Annie Rooney still. Although I'm not real happy with it. *Mary Pickford-Birthday Cake- From Little Annie Rooney (1925)*

Yeah, bet you wanted to see the Croc's get the vile Mr. Grimes! No one seemed to recall that we had the same problem the last time *POOR LITTLE RICH GIRL* was on in November, it was longer then the list time. Both of these movies and *THE HOODLUM* should be out from Milestone within the next few months. Possibly on Blu-ray as well as DVD.

Wendy, I love the still with the Birthday Cake and Candles from *LITTLE ANNIE ROONEY*. Long my favorite Pickford movie. Thanks allot. I will work on this one. Did you get to see *SPARROWS.* The times were all off, because *POOR LITTLE RICH GIRL* was longer than the schedule indicated. We should have remembered that from November. But I recorded everything, so it didn't really matter for me. I recorded about a 4 hour block onto the hard-drive to be safe. Later, I was able to split the files at the start and ending of each movie, and than burned them each individually. I just finished watching the new restoration of *SPARROWS.* Print was very nice, but maybe a little softer than I expected at times. Clearly an improvement over the previous versions though. Jeffrey Mark Silverman's new score was very solid, but not a whole lot of it really stood out for me. I'm curious to see what other people have to say about it. I still think the scene with the dying baby is one of the most poignant and touching moments ever produced by the movies.

I have a very nice profile of Viola I will post later today. Here is a fancy photo of America's Sweetheart on her Birthday.
