I'm still not 100% convinced that it is Colleen. So who could it be? The shape of the nose doesn't look quite right to me. Maybe it is just the angle. Also her eyes are not large enough it seems.

For those who do not believe that they are running the *FLAMING YOUTH* fragment tonight. Here is confirmation from Musician Michael Mortilla.

*Thunder as mentioned by gagman 66 in NOT in the program. Chaney can be seen in the Miracle Worker with sound. Goldiggers of Broadway has three clips with sound. All other music (piano solo) is by yours truly as is all post production audio.*
*I predict a surge in the creation of green bean casseroles will follow the airing tonight."*

That's OK don't get upset. Conversely, does this look like Colleen Moore to you? I sure don't think so. Jeff Codori says that it is. A photo from the early 30's. Such a unusual look, as the shape of her face seems so different. Never seen her hair that way before either. Great photo though.

My DVD/Hard-drive-recorder burner has been having a similar issue. The tray keeps opening and closing repeatedly. Refusing to load a disc. Eventually, it will work, but you have to fiddle around with it for quite awhile before it finally does. I just recorded some stuff, and got it off the hard-drive. Freeing up additional space. I was down to about 10 recordable hours.
Hate to say this, but are you sure that the second photo isn't actually Viola Dana rather than Clara Bow? We had an argument about this on another forum some months ago. I think GAOH. Some people on Nitrateville said that it was Viola? So who knows?
I still think that TCM should be debuting *CHICAGO* tonight, as it ties in better in my view with the other programing. But at least *LAILA* is a film that has probably never been seen on Television anywhere before.

Where is the promotion for this event? It is sadly lacking.
I am very disappointed in the lack of publicity. No Promo on TCM running even, except for *NOW PLAYING THE SHOW* for April, and I haven't seen that shown for over 2 weeks? Good thing I recorded it. Would not have known myself if Rich Oliveri had not told me about it. Have not talked to Jeff Codori the guy from the Colleen Moore project. I assume that He knows, but given the lack of promotion I wouldn't be to sure.

I'm sorry. Actually, *CHICAGO* was restored in 2006. But not much restoration was needed. The Nitrate was in great condition. Anytime a Nitrate print is transferred to Safety, or another medium, it's considered a restoration or preservation of sorts. I am merely repeating what I read about the film being found in 2006. That has been stated all over the place. Accurate or not. In any event, it still has never been shown on Television anywhere as far as I know.

None of that explains to me the lack of a promo airing on TCM, and the exclusion of any mention of the *FLAMING YOUTH* fragment whatsoever in any of these Damned articles either! Maybe the authors didn't feel it was worth noting, but to me it is everything!
The footage that Rich and than I saw, was unquestionably from *FLAMING YOUTH,* Also in the *Now Playing The Show for April* that sure looked like footage from Chaney's *THUNDER* to me, not *THE MIRACLE MAN?* So I don't know what to make of this.
In addition, while I am anxious to see *LAILA* since I have never seen it before, I still think a premiere of *CHICAGO* would have tied in much better with the Fragments presentation. Because the film was considered lost for decades until a Nitrate print was found in De Mille's vault. And in virtually flawless condition I might add. Since both are Flicker Alley DVD releases that also makes it a logical choice.
I pre-ordered *LAILA*. But the debut of *CHICAGO* on TCM has been long awaited by allot of people. Plus it's an American film. I mean, *LAILA* is from Norway. I have heard great things about the movie.

That's right, *COLLEN MOORE ON TCM!* It is part of the *FRAGMENTS: RARELY SEEN GEMS* presentation. Along with the Technicolor Footage of *Clara Bow* from *RED HAIR (1928).* I've been talking about this for over two weeks already in several other posts.
There is a link on the Home page, and this was featured on *TCM Now Playing The Show for April,* which I recorded two weeks ago, but haven't seen since.. Has anybody else? What is the sense of running it after the special has already been on? I am very disappointed in the lack of promotion of this event. Have actually read several articles, but no one has mentioned Colleen Moore at all, except me and Rich Oliveri. And I found out about this from him 2 and a half weeks ago!

There are three of those I do not have. And I haven't done anything with any of them before.
This is a interesting and rare piece. From Night of a 100 Stars 1985. Featuring Billie, Lillian Gish, Lara La Plante and Leatrice Joy all live. Leatrice died only a month or so after this broadcast. Nice, but a somewhat misleading clip. Made it sound like these ladies movies were only 10 minutes. No mention of features. And I thought I was going to get to see Colleen Moore and maybe Bessie Love! I wish the video was a little better quality than it is. Obviously from VHS and recorded on the slowest speed. I had not seen this before this afternoon.

Here are some recent Poster finds. These two Billie Dove features are not lost films. The first is at UCLA, and the second I just saw a few weeks ago. It survives in gorgeous condition. Though possible that the final reel is missing, because the story ends very abruptly.

It is Tom O' Brien who played Karl Dane's pal Bull O' Hara in *THE BIG PARADE.* I never heard of this picture, before I saw the Capitolfest Ad. Or if I had heard of it, I'd forgotten. I knew that Dane and Aurthur were a comedy team, but I have only seen a few clips of them together in the past. None of there features as a duo has been on TCM that I know of.

Rodney Sauer confirms that Buster Keaton's *THE GENERAL* will be shown on TCM for the first time with the new score by his Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra. Replacing the maligned Alloy Orchestra score that TCM has aired the film with for the past 8 years. So very good news there. On the downside, it could have been the Carl Davis score, which is now default on the current Kino DVD and Blu-ray. Or even the Robert Israel score, which is track number 2. But I have yet to hear the Mont Alto one myself, so it will be all new to me.
To bad we couldn't have gotten a debut of Raymond Griffith's *HAND'S UP! (1926),* this would have been the perfect occasion.

They just ran some fragments of *FLAMING YOUTH* at *Cinefest* over the weekend. And the Technicolor scenes with Renee Adoree from *THE FLAMING FOREST* as well. I had long wondered if this footage survived. Colleen's 1926 feature with Kenneth Harlan, *TWINKLETOES* is screening in April at the Annual British Silent Film Festival. I believe in a new 35 Millimeter print from the BFI. I hope *PAINTED PEOPLE* still exists.
*LONESOME* was just restored by Eastman House, and voted into the National Film Registry in December. Supposedly, Criterion inked a deal to release some Universal Studios Silents. I believe both on DVD and Blu-ray. This is the first one. They may also be looking at Abel Gance *NAPOLEON,* which has ties to the studio in the U. S.
I don't know for sure about the Clarence Brown stuff, but those three films *BUTTERFLY, SMOULDERING FIRES* and *THE GOOSE WOMAN* were all recently restored in 35 millimeter by UCLA Film and Television Archive. As was Sydney Franklin's *THE HOMEMAKER* with Alice Joyce and Clive Brook. So it would be nice to see them released.
They do have the rights to Von Stroheim's *THE WEDDING MARCH* from Paramount, but it has been very slow to make it to DVD.

Also if you go to the Union, you will find Three Clips from *ZANDER THE GREAT.* Really a wonderful movie.

Someone asks about *NAPOLEON* once a month, if not every few days on these forums. So the title is much in demand. I have both versions on DVD-R. Coppolla, and Thames Silents with Carl Davis score.
As Criterion is apparently going to be releasing some rare Universal Silents, *NAPOLEON* has ties to that studio in this country. It is a strong possibility. How soon I don't know? I mean, we are still waiting for *THE WEDDING MARCH* and Criterion has had the rights from Paramount since 2007.
On the other hand, *LONESOME* was not expected and that apparently is coming before the end of the year.I have also wonder about *THE HOMEMAKER,* and *SHAKEDOWN.* Not to mention Clarence Brown's *THE GOOSE WOMAN (1925)* newly restored by UCLA. Possibly paired with *BUTTERFLY (1924)* which made a big Star out of Laura La Plante. Brown's *SMOULDERING FIRES* is another terrific Universal that I would like to see receive a quality release. And what about Michael Cutiz epic *MOON OF ISRAEL* which was restored a few years ago.

Don't forget this Sunday TCM is running a program called FRAGMENTS: RARELY SEEN GEMS" Two hours of never before broadcast footage of lost Silent films and early talkies in Prime-time! Including such famous features as Chaney's THE MIRACLE MAN (1921), Colleen Moore's FLAMING YOUTH (1923), and Clara Bow in Color from RED HAIR (1928)! Very excited about this broadcast.
