  1. > Not too much info on Anna Lehr. Try > http://imdb.com/name/nm0499850/ > > vallo thanks,vallo13,I had already checked out IMdb,they had her films listed, but that's about it.Not much personal stuff. On Ann Dvorak's site,it noted in1934 that Ann put out a publicity hunt for her father. They were reunited, took a picture with her and her then husband.Ann died 5 yrs after her mother in1979.
  2. Well,I'm in my early 40's,so it's never too late to become an appreciater of the finer things in life:classic movies, real music of the 50-70's.i've loved classic films since kindergarten.
  3. Absolutely, not only are they discovering classic movies, but notice how so many commercials use real music from the 50's-70's,in movies as well.if today's musical talent is all that, why go back ???
  4. Judy Garland,is not one of my favorites but she was wonderful in this film.I enjoyed Maximillon Schell and Richard Widmark,Spencer Tracy as well. What was the name of the film Judy and Burt Lancaster starred in about a mental hospital with teenaged patients? she was good in that too.
  5. > Ok, I know this is a long way off, but I'm so excited > to finally get a chance to see this film. I've kept > an eye out for it on TCM for several years now, but I > know it hasn't aired in that time. It'll be part of > Joseph Cotten day (yipee!) for the Summer Under the > Stars month. > > Thank you, TCM! Yes,Thanks TCM!! This is one of my favorite Jennifer Jones films!!! it has been too long since they've shown it.She's wonderful in it.And Joseph Cotten is so underrated! Finally he gets his own day. Please let me know when it comes out on DVD.What are they waitng for??When is Jennifer going to get a star of the month? has she had one that I missed??
  6. there are a few(very few)real stars of today.Nothing is as it was:the studios, movies,Hollywood, the"STARS",EVERYthing.I don't watch too many modern films. As for the oscars and blacks,I was disgusted by Halle's sex scene performance. As a black woman i wanted to vomit. Then she won an Oscar for it.No NAACP protesting the film's portrayal of black women like they did against the Color Purple portrayal of black men.Whoopi,Oprah, and all the others totally shut out of any awards.Spielberg co-producing didn't even help.I will say it once,I'll say it again no matter how things change, they stay the same.
  7. I totally agree.Since they insisted on a white actress playing Pinky,at least get one that looks more the part.Linda Darnell would have been perfect.I believe she would have played Pinky with more depth. As for the love interest, they could have gotten a darker actor for that role.Jeanne Crain was cast in hopes the movie could be shown as close to the Mason-Dixon line as possible.who could have played Pinky's lover?Any ideas?Wasn't Ethel Barrymore great! I wanted to see more of her.
  8. I would like to stop the daily non-stop bombardment of my e-mail of posted messages. My junk bin can't take it.I visit TCM daily anyway.HELP!!!!
  9. Welcome, dramafreak! My favorite film is The Lion in Winter. If I see it 100x's,I'll want to see it 100 more.
  10. Your right,movieman1957,the music from Executive Suite was from the opening credits, not during the film,....maybe it was just the ringing of that bell in the beginning??
  11. Command Decision is my favorite.WW2 movies aren't my genre, but this film has an excellent cast.
  12. Yes, they want to make money and show off the latest in disaster movie technology. How close can they make the film look like the latest live-action video game?? Then they continue to try to out"special-effect" each preceding sequel.Let's see,we've had how many King Kongs,Batmans,Godzillas,Star Wars,...etc.Wooo!! I'm glad I have the classics.!!
  13. Yes ,I believe they do.They show it alot anyway, just stay tuned.
  14. Any info on Ann Lehr? She made quite a few silents. Anyone seen any of her films? Have they been shown on TCM??
  15. Well,if you go to http://.angelfire.com/jazz/ninamaemckinney, you will find a black mulatto playwright named Elsie Roxborough who dated Joe Louis, was friends with Langston Hughes, and acted in her own plays. After a while, she passed for white, using several names in the process.Go to the site and see how she ended up...It's interesting read.
  16. there are alot,i need time to think: Joan Blondell Gregory Peck Jo van Fleet Rosalind Russell Teresa Wright Joseph Cotten John Barrymore Agnes Moorehead Patricia Neal Ida Lupino Sidney Poitier Walter Matthau Jennifer Jones Ruth Chatterton Loretta Young Vivien Leigh Olivia de Haviland Shelley Winters Eve Arden Burgess Meredith Don Ameche Ann Sheridan Kate Hepburn Susan Hayward Edward G.Robinson Sylvia Sidney Jack Lemmon Peter Ustinov Billie Burke Rachel Roberts
  17. I totally agree.Hollywood is so starved and void of quality storylines, they retread any and everything with the slightest chance for profit.this movie is an untouchable classic, too me.Next they'll remake earthquake & The Towering Inferno!!!Huhhhh, oops what if they're reading this now!!! Shhhhh...q u i e t.
  18. There are several fav's. Winchester '73 The Lonely Man The Big Country(the score was great) Clint's Spaghetti westerns The Ox-Bow Incident Blazing Saddles Silverado Early 80's Clint film(carrie snodgrass, michael moriarty) Buck and the Preacher Bad Day at Blackrock
  19. Joan Blondell was a piece of gold!!! From A Tree Grows in Bklyn to her films in the 30's to the Cincinnati Kid,she was superb. She had class, talent, humor and she was fun.Another example of a fine talent overlooked and underappreciated.Did hollywood truly know what it had in her??NOPE!!
  20. I saw the Shrike on TV ,maybe in the late '90's .I believe it was on TCM.If not it must have been on AMC before they went commercial.
  21. she also played the selfish, rich,"friend" of Claudette C. in "Since You went Away".She's a gem of an actress, too.
  22. Well here goes: Now,Voyager The Little Foxes All About Eve A Catered Affair Jezebel Of human Bondage Dark Victory Mr.Skeffington there are more, but I can't remember!!
  23. I liked Sylvia, but her films never seem to get the air time like other stars.i thought she was pretty, with those eyes and voice.Had a vulnerable quality.I've seen her in Dead End Kids.Always liked her. There are some stars you like,no matter their roles, material, or popularity. She's one of them.
  24. WOW,what a question.Well, this is tough:Bette or Kate.Well, they're both great. These too are at the top of the heap.they're both New England, born a year apart,I believe;but Bette is less upper crust, more approachable. Her roles were more colorful, varied, dealing with issues more ordinary folk have to face:An aging star in All about Eve.The family joke in Now ,Voyager.Even putting the ad in the paper for work in the late 50's or early 60's.Bette didn't care. She had kids to feed.Kate was always so different, unique.there was a time when even movie fans tired of her personality.Kate was a little before her time.she was great, though not the typical movie star. There are some rolls that Kate just was not good to play because of her type.I'd better answer the question:I can't...it's a toss up!!!
  25. All the Way Home with Robert Preston and Jean Simmons. Superb film. Is there a plot to keep this masterpiece hidden away???
