I turned on TCM tonight to watch a classic 4-star silent film, The General w/ Buster Keaton. What I got was the classic video, but a totally new and modern soundtrack using synthesized keyboards. What the holy hell is this!?!? This movie - and all silent movies - need to include the period soundtrack to stay true to form. Updating the music using synthetic keyboards to sound like more modern sountracks is like dubbing over dialogue in The Godfather to include the latest mobster slang -- it's just wrong. Seriously, it's like watching a totally different movie.
TNC, showing classic movies means showing them as they were originally shown. Old video with new audio does not a classic movie make. Stop trying to improve the classics and show them as they were originally shown!
