  1. Thanks! Yes, that is why I like it so much. You know he just started in pictures, and he only made about five or so (maybe less) when he was shipped off to the war. Then, when he came back he was a big star, and most of the pictures of him are of that after-the-war period. So, I posted an early one of him.

But, if he disappears again, I hope someone will let me know!

  2. Thanks, Helen! I have thought about it so often. I am glad there are no hard feelings. I am just SILLY sometimes. But, it did teach me a lesson, though, don't jump to conclusions on a message board! You can't see anyone, you can't hear anyone, and you can only percieve what they mean through the written word, very difficult!

  3. For years I had Father Takes a Wife on tape; then, I lent it to someone. I can't remember where or when, but it is gone. I do remember really enjoying her performance in that film and considered it to be a treasure considering how scarce her performances in talkies are! But, now I realize I had the opportunity to tape it again and missed it! Dang! Oh, well.

Has anyone here ever seen Music in the Air starring Gloria Swanson, with Douglass Montgomery, John Boles, and June Lang? I have a picture of it in a book, and she looks fantastic. You can tell it is in the thirties, but there is no date or any other info.

  4. Well, I am home now, and I can see everything beautifully; however, I do not know if William Holden can be see. I reset him, but if he doesn't work this time, I will have to get a new image! Let me know if you can see him. He is the first photo on the thread.

  5. I am using the computer at school, not home, and everything is coming in clearly and beautifully! But, funny, the picture of William Holden does not show up on this screen, either. I will have to go home and check to see if I can still see these pics of Gene, The Thin Man, and Clark and Ava. And, I will try to repost that pic of William. It is such a great picture of him, too!!! Dang!

  6. I wonder if this "hate" is an age issue. I hesitate to bring it up, cause the last time I assumed the person to whom I was speaking was younger than I, I was way off base, and helenbaby never spoke to me again! Sorry, helen.

Anyway, I am curious as to the ages of some of you who think it is ok to show these movies. I am 56, and think it is an abomination! But, I am sure that is because of my age. I remember growing up with classics. When I was a toddler, the only movies they had to show on TV were "classic movies." So, my definition, although stretched a bit to allow the sixities in there, is pretty narrow (and justifiably so). I can't imagine anyone older liking TCM showing these movies, but again, I could be way off!

  7. Crazy about Twentieth Century! One of the GREATEST CLASSICS! Barrymore and Lombard! I love her line, when she is complaining after he makes her a star about having become his captive and his not allowing her see or party with anyone else, "Simply because he doesn?t want me to mingle with what he calls riff-raff, and that?s everybody in the world except us two!"
