Yes, I have always liked him since the first time I saw him. I had forgotten he was in Day-Time Wife with Tyrone and Linda. I am going to have to watch that again; I have it on tape. Did you know he was on Broadway before he came to Hollywood? I didn't. There was one picture I have of him that is soooo young it doesn't look like Hollywood. I bet it was taken of him when he was on Broadway. Would you like to see it?

Just for you, stoney!(Sorry, there is a woman in it! Ha!)

Warren William (2 December 1894 - 24 September 1948) was a Broadway and Hollywood actor, born Warren William Krech in Aitkin, Minnesota. He attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. After moving from Broadway to Hollywood in the silent period, he reached his peak as a leading man in early 1930s pre-Production Code films. He was a contract player at the Warner Bros. William was the first to portray Earl Stanley Gardner's fictional defense attorney Perry Mason on the big screen and starred in four Perry Mason mysteries. For his contribution to the motion picture industry, Warren William has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1551 Vine Street. Some of his more famous films include Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933), Lady for a Day (1933), Cleopatra (1934), Imitation of Life (1934), Satan Met a Lady (1936), Stage Struck (1936), Go West Young Man (1936), Madame X (1937), and Day-Time Wife (1939).

Funny, stoney, you are the first person (man or woman) I have ever shown that picture too who didn't like him! Well, everyone to their tastes! You know I started this thread SPECIFICALLY on Garbo and Lamarr, but as everyone can see it has taken on it's own life, which is fine with me. As long as everyone is happy, we can do anything you like. So, Warren William it is! And, CB, here is your chance to see him. You really must go see some of his films, and as I suggested before, Go West Young Man, is one of the best! You get West and William together!

That is Nils Asther, another Swede. He looks Latin in most of his films, but he is as fair as she is! I saw another pic of him and his family (wife and daughter) and he was such a white boy, I didn't know him at first! They must have used a lot of make up on him. You know in the Silents especially, Latin men were all the rage. Even Gilbert had dark hair.

Hey, snarf! Love the pic! And, welcome BACK!

Just had to post that "GORGEOUS picture" of Hedy, again! I guess that is a redundant statement.

Oh, and Jack, another piece of information you may find interesting is that her eyelashes are really that long. She was renowned for her lashes. I'm not saying that they didn't put false eyelashes on her, but they SAY they didn't. I am just saying that she had the longest lashes of anyone in Hollywood. The story goes that a famous person, can't remember who (I will try to find out who that was and stick it in here later!), asked her if the story were true. She asked what story? He said, "Are your lashes real?" She said, "Well, go ahead and pull them!" And, he did, and they were!

The GREAT PROFILE - John Barrymore
-
No, it isn't a great film, but it is a remarkable classic due to its casting, which makes it one of the most valuable gems of the era! I just wish John had a stronger part. Lionel stole the fim, and that was difficult seeing that Ethel was in it, but John's part could have been played by anybody. Anyway, I'm not complaining. I am glad we have it and that they did it! Just wish they had done more! And, it will be interesting to see what Drew looks like in her forties. I never thought she was very attractive, but she is a Barrymore, so that makes her royalty.

Welcome home, Larry! Although it was not like you were gone at all (Isn't computer communication wonderful?), it is nice to know you are home safe in your own bed!
-
Really! She just looks so casual! I know in just a few minutes she would walk over to the table, flip her hair back, and light up a cigarette! Damn, I'd love a short film (home movie) on that! I don't think Kate ever looked that good, but I am prejudice!

No problem, stoney. If you watch The Bitter Tea of General Yen, an early talkie with Barbara Stanwyck, you might change your mind. He was primarily a silent star, but he did make a few talkies. And yes, that picture is IT!
-
And, you are RIGHT, Larry! Garbo had pretty much everyone beat as far as comfort. She started wearing pants privately shortly after she arrived in America. I am sure she wore sweats and tennis shoes, too! I think Kate just liked to take credit for stuff! Remember on the Cavet interview ad, she says she finds herself fascinating! Ha!
-
Oh, no problem, heidi! I have been a little disappointed myself, and now that you have brought it up, I will see to it that they are smaller. Thanks!

Who had the prettiest face in movies, past or present?

Wow! Melly, that was just great! Thanks for the link! It was fascinating to hear about Madeleine! It was about a ten minute tape, so anyone wanting to watch it has to devote a little time. It is well worth it, though! Just click on the camera icon and watch the show! -
GRETA GARBO IN A HITCHCOCK MOVIE
GarboManiac replied to thomasterryjr's topic in General Discussions
Oh, yeah, Shearer, too. She was supposed to be Mrs. Miniver, but she said "No Mothers!" too. And, I don't blame them. I am thrilled to have their legacy in tact. It is ok that the others went on to play whatever, but Garbo and Shearer didn't. I think some rock stars of today should have followed their lead! -
