Thanks! And, I know what you mean! LOL Oh, and you too patful! No hard feelings!! Oh, and patful, that has happened to me, too! I edit something and it throws it back to the beginning. I am ****, too. So, that was part of my theory, that he (she) has been following us and when Larry made that comment, he (she) edited, and bounced the thread back up! Spooky! I answered you on this thread cause I don't want to be over there either, although this thread is turning out to be a "safe" place, instead of Caddyshack! Oops!
-
Oh! I found it! It is over in the Osmond thread!! I can't believe I even frequented the sight, but I guess I am guilty too. So, two apologies! Are we cool now?
-
Filmlover, I DID apologize! I DID! I just can't find it. Somewhere on this forum in the threads is an apology. I do know you were the one who fought to end it! I was there for a brief while. And, as for the goofy trouble makers I was just trying to be gentle cause I thought someone really did bring the thread back. But, no one did, so I will now go quietly to a different thread!

Best Introduction shot of a character
GarboManiac replied to lzcutter's topic in General Discussions
Yes, Jack, it is true. And, those of us who have seen the movie more than once become instantly sad at that opening train station scene. She is only headed for tragedy. Ok, I'll give it to you. That was a fabulous opening for Garbo. She had on a beautiful gown and we were, as was Nagel, almost voyeurs! She was so wrapped up in the opera that she doesn't even know he, or we, are there. Or, does she? She's a cool cookie in that one. Sorry, Larry I stole that Garbo shot before you got on, but that one of Lana is one of the most famous in film history! So, let's call it a draw! Jack really has a good one, but it is silent! Should we draw the line between, or leave it open? Oh, that's another good one of Lana. Poisonally, I love Lana! But, apparently there are many on this forum who don't!!! -
That is very strange, indeed! Sorry, filmlover. I know you tried to end it before. I just don't understand why it is back, unless he (she) has found a sly way of returning it without comment! Maybe he (she) reads our threads and DID see Larry's comment. Now, that would be spooky!

Best Introduction shot of a character

Ha! Good ones! I agree completely with Deanna. She was no disapointment, like Franciska Gaal! Who? -
I am with you stoneyburke, sigh!! And, you Rickspade! Douglas was great in most everything. A big lug with a heart o' gold. I liked him in Everybody Does It, when he becomes an opera star!

Ok, everybody go over to lzcutter's new thread about the best opening shot of a star in a movie. That ought to redeem you!

Best Introduction shot of a character
GarboManiac replied to lzcutter's topic in General Discussions
OH!! Thank you!! May the Saints preserve us! Ok, I'll play! I hate to win hands down, but Garbo in Anna Karenina at the train station is the one! -
Sorry, lzcutter! But, I have to comment on the Osmond thread! Patful was right, Larry! So far, he (she) has not come back, only those goofy-headed-trouble starters! And, if he (she) does come back it is on their heads. That empty headed wonder has no sense, and you guys just keep taunting him (her) for fun! But, it is not constructive. Now, I am going to have to smack you! Put out your hands and then go to the corner. And, stop looking at that magazine!
-
Filmlover! Why did you bring this back??? You must be bored! Please! Create a new thread, or comment on another. This one is just SILLY!
-
Yes, they were Miss Withers. I would have loved to have seen that Crawford movie. If you think of the name let us know. Anything James Gleason is in I like and watch, sometimes just for him! I liked Keenan Wynn, too. When you were talking about him, Jesse Ralph popped into my head!
-
Well, I never necessarily connected IT with charisma. IT usually meant sex! So, using my definition Garbo, and Dietrich both had IT!
-
Ok, so you have Camille and Anna Karenina. So, the next one should be Ninotchka! I will keep you current. Garbo's career had many ups and downs but I always categorize her career into three parts. The beginning was her silent career, which also had many sections, but you can pretty much put all of her silents (9) into "The Beginning." Then, the middle, started with Anna Christie, her first talkie, and went right through to the Painted Veil (9). Then, the third part started with Anna Karenina and ended with Two Faced Woman (5). She made 24 films in Hollywood, all at MGM, but one silent is missing. So, if you have Anna K. and Camille, you might as well jump to Ninotchka. Conquest which was right after Camille was a long, dreary, Napoleonic documentary of Marie Walewska's devotion and love for the emperor. Two Faced Woman, after Ninotchka, was her last film, and it was a disappointment to everyone, including Garbo. Yup, Anna Karenina, Camille and Ninotchka are a perfect threesome! Russian and French costume dramas, and a Russian comedy which takes place in France!

Oh, I liked the Tayor and Hudson pairing. I liked Rock! He was like one of the last movie stars. Just like Monroe followed Harlow, and Taylor followed Lamarr, I think Rock Hudson follow Tyrone Power. Funny how the Forties were this transition period. I guess I could stick Lana Turner between Harlow and Monroe, and Ava Gardner between Lamarr and Taylor, but I don't know who to put between Power and Hudson! Did the Forties produce a beautiful man? Anyway, back to romantic couples: Charles Boyer and Hedy Lamarr

Thanks, patful! That was with Virginia. And, I haven't ever seen it. I have seen previews, and he was somethin' else. Up on top of that tank at the end! Whew!
-
Funny about June! She was a crier. Great story about Patsy. I could see her and hear her as I read your story.

Actors/Actresses behind the voice.....
GarboManiac replied to cinemabuff64's topic in General Discussions
Someone already mentioned Bogart, cinemabuff64! You better go back and read your thread! Ha! -
Well, they were pretty funny! I loved all the Hudson/Day movies. I loved that whole period of time with James Garner, Polly Bergen, Elke Sommer, Tony Randall, et al. Suburban slapstick. That was the era in which I grew up! Even if they were Sixties movies, which I always say are out of the chronological acceptability of "classic," I guess I can slip those in!
-
movieman1957 & Rickspade Thanks to both you guys! I vaguely remeber that scene now. Those old gangster movies with Cagney, Bogart, Robinson were all great! Anyone remember which film that scene came from?

Actors/Actresses behind the voice.....
GarboManiac replied to cinemabuff64's topic in General Discussions
Sorry, cinemabuff64! I fell asleep! But, I got your goodnight this morning on the other thread! Ok, my contributions are, as we said, Eve Arden and Martha Raye. Oh, and two more, Alice Brady and Isabel Jeans! If I heard them from across the room, I'd know them immediately! -
Oh, yeah! Arden and Raye are perfect! I would know them anywhere!
-
Well, you can just watch both of those again or go back. Don't go forward cause the only three left are Conquest (dreary), Ninotchka and Two Faced Woman. You can see those later. Watch any of the early ones. Romance is my favorite but she tries an Italian accent in that. Maybe Inspiration or Susan Lenox. But, definitely watch all three of those in any order. Then go back and watch Camille and Anna Karenina. Or . . . .
-
Thank you, and I gotcha! For all my talk about Garbo and Lamarr, I love Eve Arden, Martha Raye and Patsy Kelly!

Yeah, that's right! If you closed your eyes you could tell right away who they were!
