  1. Loved those old Sci Fi and Horror trailers! It would be great just to sit and watch a fifteen minute to half hour show on old 50's Sci Fi trailers. Then, Clark Gable or Greta Garbo trailers. A fifteen minute show on Horror trailers from the Thirties would be great, too! Just seems like an untapped goldmine!
  2. Like Betty Hutton, June was a little powerhouse of talent! She could laugh, cry, fight, sing, dance, and, in general, just be the swell gal next door. During the WAR that is what audiences wanted. They wanted to know what they were fighting for, and most of the images of the gals whom the soldiers revered were very close to their family or their dream girl. June represented the family. That was her appeal. Then she moved on into the fifites and cut her hair! Most all the actresses cut their hair in the fifties. But, that's when she lost me! I hated that hair, and even though I still watch her and admire her, I hate that hair! I really enjoy June in her early days when she had long hair. We all talked about her in another thread last month. She is quite a topic.
  3. If I were stranded on a desert island . . . . Well, if I had to choose only one film, it would be Dark Victory. She was so pretty in that fim. She gave such a performance. It always makes anyone who sees it cry. But, she was awfully funny in it as well. Her clothes were great, and she had a great suppporting cast including Bogart! She went from being sooo "Bette Davis" with her, "I'm 23 years old, an only child. I weigh 110 pounds striped. I've had measles, mumps and whooping cough all at the poper ages. I believe I have no congenital weaknesses. . . ! My father drank himself to death; my mother lives in Paris. I take a great deal of exersice. I'm accustomed to a reasonable quantity of tobacco and alchohol. I'm said to have a sense of humor. Is that enough? (lights a cigarette!), to being maudlin and self-pitying in the bar when singing, "Oh, give me TIME for TEN-DER-NESS," to being brave and self-sacrificing with her sight failing her at the end while sending her husband off to receive his medal! I know there are also The Little Foxes, The Letter, Jezebel, Now, Voyager, and All About Eve. But, there is just something about her range in this movie that gets me, and SHE DIES! I love movies where they die. Bette hardly ever died. She was great! Yup! I pick DARK VICTORY!
  4. :0 If life gives you lemons, MAKE LEMONADE! (Cliche # 156) Nice gonin' Marlon.
  5. LOL! Oh, you guys are so funny! I can't get any work done, cause I am constantly being drawn back to all these threads for the next witticism - or argument (discussion)! Do you write your own stuff or what??? See what great material "grammarians" provide?
  6. Well, the only natural blonde I can think of in the movies was Garbo. Her hair was so natural that it didn't even register as blonde! I would assume every other actress, natural or not, enhanced their color one way or another. Now, as to your inquiry, I have no idea. I do know that in Garbo's case, she had extensive photo shoots after every film. She often looked different from the film, with different hair, and posed in ways that were not depicted in the film. So, perhaps this could be what happened with Marlene and Hattie, although like you said it seems a bit too much trouble to stage something so elaborate and not mimic the film. Anyway, I taped Blonde Venus off of TCM years and years ago. I will have to watch my copy again and see if I see Hattie helping Marlene, with torn nylons and sparkling shoes, through a window. I will get back to you on that.
  7. Gary Cooper? Sleznick's first choice for Rhett?
  8. I think you are thinking of Strangers When We Meet (1959). It stars Kirk Douglas as an archetict, and it also stars Kim Novak. Hope that's it!
  9. Ok, MetryRoad! I'd love to see those legs! And, MattHelm, I was just standing up for effort! Everyone wants to join the "It doesn't really matter!" club. I understand it is often perceived as condescending, but vital nevertheless. I have read much of CineSage jr's copy, and I realize he has a superior attitude. "Oh, how the mighty are fallen!" It was not with the attitude I was agreeing, but with the essence of his condescension! Ha! Wow! Hope you got that one. Ok, now, everyone get back to making their mistakes, moi aussi! And, cinemabuff64, that tirade was not directed toward you in particular. It was meant to be general, as I see it was by the general responses. Keep up the good work and don't worry about anyone's, especially mine, two cents. You only improve through constant writing! So, keep on writing.
  10. You tell 'em, Chipper! I'm with you!!
  11. Oh, cinemabuff64, that was funny! But, unfortunately, I agree with CineSage jr. Because, I continually make mistakes, I take my time and proofread. I go through spell check, which often isn't a big help, but one's language is a reflection. Just as if you were sporting a tattoo on your forehead, or a young man like yourself wearing a tie! These things still count, and I pray always will. The fact that some of us point them out is mostly in fun, but with a "friendly reminder" purpose. Now, as to how much I would pay, I would pay anything they want. I always have and will till I die. I don't see that I have much choice. I have over a thousand movies on tape, and I am now buying DVDs, but I still watch TCM more than I put on any of those. It is one of the few pleasures I have. So, go ahead world, bleed me dry!
  12. Oh, yeah! I imagine those are a mess! I got one as a gift with, unbeknownst to the giver, the worst films of each actor listed. It was a mess, and it only had eight films. Well, I have to give in to you. I almost listed John, but thought I would see who you picked. So, I willingly agree with your choice! As a matter of fact, I wish Garbo and Barrymore had done one more film together, like a whole one. There was talk of his doing Queen Christina, but they finally concluded he was too old. Ha! So we are robbed of the combo due to aging, "loss of looks," again! Isn't is funny how looks were so important in film, no matter how much anyone disputes.
  13. Hey, David! This is just to add to what you already listed. To all of us who love Hedy: http://www.hedylamarr.org/
  14. Rusty, Oh, gosh! That is a tough one. I always disconnect beauty and ability with men. Funny, huh? That double standard. Errol is in my top 5, by the way, pretty funny! My favorites are Errol, Tyrone, Cary, Randolph, and Burt Lancaster. I love how each one acted in films, but I pretty much consider each of them to be MOVIE STARS, even though Burt won an Oscar! But, if you really want my opinion on who was the best ACTOR, I would have to say either Laurence Olivier, or someone who was never really quite a star, like Lionel Barrymore, or John Gielgud. Those kinda guys were really the talents, but not the looks, so they are often not listed on favorites or the greatest lists. GM
  15. I loved the previews! I would love to see more trailers! I once taped a whole group of, maybe 7, Jean Harlow trailers on TCM years ago. It is wonderful that they include trailers with the new DVDs on some of the movies released, but I wish TCM would just show more trailers throughout the day and before each film. I know they show some, but not enough, not the ones I want to see, and not as often as I would like.
  16. Of course, you know I was kidding, TOOMANYNOTES. I was sure you would be more cleverer than that there! I just ran out of things to say on this thread, so I bailed. Cowardly, I know, but they need me over in the Whose Favorite Actor Is This? thread!
  17. Ok! Are you guys tryin' to start a fight? Put 'em up! What do you want to fight about? Race? Whose got it worser? Who is the most prettiest? Pick your poison!
  18. Might as well be on both Favorites lists. Here we go again: Greta Garbo Norma Shearer Bette Davis Marlene Dietrich Hedy Lamarr Jean Harlow Ava Gardner Rita Hayworth Cary Grant Errol Flynn Tyrone Power Burt Lancaster Gary Cooper Randolph Scott Charles Boyer Laurence Olivier
  19. I remember now. Her name is Sherilynn Fenn. Remember her? But, I think she was too busty to play Lamarr.
  20. HUH! We are back on the general discussion! And, off Lamarr, again. :0 Let's all go back to Hedy's thread!
  21. Well, I joined this forum for purely superficial reasons. I don't want to get too heavy! Goodness, let's just talk about who's the prettiest, who was the best actor, who was miscast, stuff like that there! For cryin' out loud!
  22. There was one gal a few years back who might have pulled it off. Her name was Sheryl or Cheryl something. She had black hair and she was gorgeous. Can't remember any movies she did, but I remember her face!
