  1. My goodness! What happened to the topic on this thread? My favorite most recent movie is The Hedy Lamarr Story! Oh, they haven't made it yet. Well, who could play her, anyway? Ha! Ok, everyone back on track.
  2. Oh, how funny! No, I rarely take anything you say as needing chiding.
  3. Thank you, David! I understand and agree completely. I go back and forth, Garbo/Hedy, Hedy/Garbo. Photos, definitley Lamarr. Acting definitey Greta. But, somedays I just want Greta, then others I just want Hedy!
  4. Didn't she fall in love and get married! That often makes you forget about everything! But, she could have come back later in life like Alice Faye. Shown up at some film festivals and signed a few autographs. And, how could you put Greta Garbo and Deanna Durbin in the same sentence? (Ha! But, I know what you mean.)
  5. That was supposed to be: Hats Off To YOU! Salute! High FIVE! and Winking and Laughing! Just forget it! Good job, David.
  6. Ok, Ok! This is obviously too hot a topic to discuss without starting to cry, "Racism!" We are supposed to be discussing whether or not new film discussions belong on this forum, or not!! But, CB&W, I just wanted to comment on one thing more before we calmly go back to discussing the topic at hand. Wow! I didn't know that about Garbo. But, she was very internal and tremendously sensitive, not only to her own feelings, but the feelings of others. Well, I don't know if I am saying this the way I want it to come across. Cause I know she didn't give a hang about anyone else! What I am trying to say is, she was sensitive to other's suffering, mistreatment, loss, etc. And, because of that, it did lend to her ability to portray empathetic characters. Thanks for the Garbo plug!
  7. You know, cee, I am with you one hundred percent. I, personally, don't care for many new films, and I see very few if any. I am on this site to discuss old films. I live in a dream world of days gone by, and I like it like that. I go out into the new, modern world where violence and hate occur everyday. I come home to escape to Garbo's face, or Lamarr's languorous beauty. But, remember, this is the modern world, and everyone has a right to their opinion. New films will be discussed here every now and then. But, as many have already pointed out they don't add up to much. I just don't read those threads or respond to them. Stick to the ones which inspire you to comment. Then, you won't have to get distracted from your reason for being here. Now, as to us being a dying breed, it is true. I deal primarily with youth. Most of the young Latinos, Blacks, Asians, and even Whites aren't interested much in seeing old colorless films about a time in which most of them were servants or second class citizens. I am told over and over, "Oh, I don't care about those movies!" And, why should they. They belong to a select group who appreciate them for personal reasons, even if those reasons could be considered far reaching. I believe that in one hundred years the old B&Ws will all be locked up in some library somewhere viewed only by a few vaguely interested parties or confined to the scrutiny of the studious. But, for now, they are with us and still very much alive. So, eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow they may die.
  8. The color choices don't make the site seem finished! It looks like it is in some sort of transitional state, which I hope passes quickly. I am with all of you on these colors, they make me nauseous and dizzy. I much prefer solid, substantial colors like a darker blue with a lighter blue, red (maybe a burgundy) with gray, brick with gold. Whatever, just stronger. These colors are weak and sickly.
  9. The Grammar Police are here! "most prettiest!" Isn't that combining a comparative with a superlative? Using two words with the same job? Well, I guess I am just the most analest about all that stuff! And, I still think Hedy Lamarr is the mostest prettiest of all!

  11. Great thread! Very funny stuff. Some of my favorites: A cough is usually the sign of a terminal illness. If you decide to start dancing in the street, everyone you bump into will know all the steps. Woman/girl running from the bad guy always seems to fall down. There's always an abandoned building to take shelter for the night.
  12. Oh, I would be happy to join you! It is one of my all time favorites! I have seen it many times and ALL of the characters are vital and fantastic! You were very fortunate to play such a fun role in such a distiquished play!
  13. Well, I wouldn't call The Karate Kid, crap. More like a genre or type of movie. I liked it. I just don't think it belongs on TCM. I watch for Garbo, Gable, Cooper, Dietrich, Hepburn, Stewart, Tracy, and Lamarr. Ralph just doesn't seem to fit!
  14. Oh, My GOSH! I just stumbled across this thread! I am hooked on Maria Montez and John Hall!! I have all of the movies you listed except for White Savage, and now I must to have it!! Ha! I will go online right now and fill out the form. I think the whole world should see their films. I have a friend who is the hardest sell on old movies, but I showed him a couple of the Arabian Nights movies with Maria and Jon, and he can't get enough!!! Great job! I give you nothing but support!
  15. Yes, Fred, I am sure you are right. I have seen that, and it does look like fairies dancing. I am sure the ghost is The Uninvited, and the only other one I can think of, too, is Midsummer's Night Dream. Oh, yes, there were fairies in Three Wise Fools, or were those leprechauns?
  16. I realize this is a little off topic, but has anyone seen Mel in Dame Edna's Christmas Special? It is out on DVD. He was so young, and so handsome! And, NAKED! He spent the whole time in the sauna on the special. It kept cutting to him with a towel wrapped around his waist, and slipping off! WOW! Let's hear it for youth!
  17. Really! I am surprised they would leave him out! He was magnificent! Have fun!!
  18. Well, no. But, there is so much about High Society I do like. I thought Grace was perfect for the role of the Goddess. Frank did an admirable job as the befuddled writer, and Celeste was fine as his amore. I, also, loved the Who Wants To Be A Millionare? number. The sets were fabulous, and it was nice to see Louis. But, of course, after all is said and done, no one could beat, Hepburn, Grant, Stewart, Hussey, Mary Nash and Roland Young!
  19. "Could we try to remember that we are hardly commercial travelers! It's bad enough we have to associate with these tourists on board without having to go ashore with them! You have all the vigor of a typical American tourist! Charlotte, sit down and write something to someone! For the last three days you've been behaving like an excited servant girl!"
