  1. I don't either. As I have said before, she was accepted into Max Reinhardt's Dramatic school and taken under his wing because he thought so much of her. I understand she was a little stiff, but that was because she was a LADY! She was always classy when she acted, and that makes people think she couldn't act. I think she was the forerunner to Grace and Audrey! Many people thought Grace was stiff (wooden), too!
  2. I love Deanna. One of my favorite films was It Started With Eve costarring Robert Cummings and Charles Laughton. It was great. Well, anything she did was great because you just sit there waiting to hear that glorious voice! And, I thought she grew up to be a very lovely young woman.
  3. Yes, I do know. In fact, you are one of the reasons I posted this thread. You have excellent taste in many areas! Everyone else posts threads on all of the other "GREATS!" But, I have yet to see a thread on Hedy Lamarr!
  4. I have been reading, what so many people have written, about Hedy. She seems to be of great importance! Whenever there is an open discussion she is mentioned! In The Least Sexy thread she was the hottest topic, and even in I Swoon For ..., she is often repeated. Yes, there are many who were great, Garbo, Davis, Hepburn, Bergman, even Crawford. But, Hedy always rises to the top, like cream, to meet each one of them head to head. I am impressed with the number of supporters. Just what is it about her that makes her so outstanding (I mean besides her beauty, a topic always welcome for discussion)?
  5. Saratoga Trunk with Ingrid Bergman and Gary Cooper, The Strange Woman with Hedy Lamarr and George Sanders, Lloyds of London with Tyrone Power, Madeleine Carroll, and George Sanders, These Glamour Girls with Lana Turner, Marsha Hunt, Anita Louise, Jane Bryan, and Ann Rutherford, and Cain and Mable with Clark Gable and Marion Davies.
  6. Ha! I've seen it! It is just Horrible. Let's "right" a new one with that Os---- person in the straightjacket attended by TOOMANYNOTES prodding him on with an electric poker or such. Nicholson, mad of course, could play TOOMANYNOTES and the Os---- person could be . . . ?
  7. You know, I have come to realize that there are a few major hitters playing on this field. You are a word MASTER. Keep 'em comin' fast and furious. That's how we like 'em! Now, as to TOOMANYNOTES and the straightjacket (great title for a movie), that came from "those people's" thread, "No more OS______S! It was just meant to be a funny reference to the thread and how much attention it got over an intelligent discussion on English grammar and its acceptable usage in everyday writing, i.e. these threads. That's all. But, TOOMANYNOTES got it!
  8. B-) Thanks so much, wordmaster!! I really appreciate the lesson! If not for you I could not emote!! Even though I have tried before, I forgot!
  9. Hey, thanks! Ok, here goes! :0 What is this supposed to mean, anyway? Smile? Tongue? What is this supposed to mean? :| Blank? ;-) Wink? Boogers! Well, I tried semicolon zero, semicolon small o, semicolon capital O, but nothing!
  10. That's right TOON MANY, or whatever, I don't want him to be reported either. Now, I am busy trying to emote! :-? :-k 8-0 Well, I give up! I'll just stick to winks and smiles!
  11. Testing: 1, 2, 3 ! :-? I-) :-O Phooey! 3 out of 7? That's an F! I am with you in your frustration, wordmaster!
  12. ...and stop putting three dots after everything... You are also psychic!
  13. Sorry, guys. I have been gone all afternoon. Oh, thanks for the clarification on that, karlofffan! I understand now. And, wordmaster! You don't miss a trick! You are pretty fast. It is you who deserve the prize! As usual. But, I agree. I admitted that mistakes are inevitable, (if you are clever enough to catch them) especially at the pace some of these messages are written! So, it is fine with me if we bury this subject. However, I think it deserves at least as much time as was spent on the Osmond's. This is the language of the land, after all. TOONMANY YOU HAVE BETTER WATCH HOW YOU TALK TO ME BECAUSE IF YOU DONT IM GOING TO REPORT YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!! Ha! Now that was a hoot!
  14. That's RIGHT! And, you better close those o's and dot those i's!! If you want to win the penmenship award, that is!
  15. There is one more film I don't think anyone has mentioned, The Sisters, with Bette Davis. She plays Bette's only source of human contact (even if she is a hooker), and survives the earthquake with her. Gee, I don't know why I replied directly to moirafinnie6. It was just a general comment which should have been directed toward vecchiolarry. Sorry, moirafinnie6.
  16. What a laugh riot! Isn't language fun!! But, come on, vecchiolarry, you are missing the most important word in the amusement! You forgot ME! "She's buried not too far from ME in Colma, CA south of S.F."
  17. There is a fine line, and I hope TCM is aware of it! I am all for getting youngsters into the classics, however. And, thanks for the correction, Jack! You are to much, oops, too much!
  18. Oh, patful! You are so amusing!! Loved the geek, oops, opps! Just the fact that you care so much means you will progress and improve. I don't worry about guys like you. I worry about "i thikn u r cool!!?!" It is mostly youth who write that way, and I hope someday the value of correctness, in all you do, will hit them. Anyway, LOL! Irma La ****! Ha! Ha! Ha!
  19. Even though I would LOVE to discuss The Shanghai Gesture, I would prefer to do it over in The Shanghai Gesture's thread (even though the discussion has little to do with the question asked, that has never stopped anyone before)! Now, karlofffan, this is TOO easy. Unfortunately, English has always been a problem with the human's who must speak, write, and express it. These threads are riddled with flaws. I expect even I have made an occasional error, even in writing this. But, nevertheless, anyone who is expressing himself or herself on paper, which is what is being done here, should watch themselves! Every time you write, you have an opportunity for improvement. It should be accessed with fervor! It should not be thrown aside as being too much trouble, or not important enough for "this kind" of writing. Another aspect of the entries made in these threads that bothers me is the use of CAPITALS to escape having to spell, punctuate or think. And, one more thing, I disagree with you on one major point. Why in the world wouldn't misspelled subtitles count? Unless there is some formatting problem that exists with TCM of which I am unaware, there is at no time any excuse for poor grammar, spelling or structure when born to a language. So, subtitles do count! Everything counts. And, it will count everyday of your life until you are dead. Granted we all make mistakes. That being said, here is a just a sampling of an enormous list of errors I have found in these threads. The names have been left out to protect the "innocent." there's that one movie where they meet at that diner by the train station and that's where they leave each other because they can't be together, i can't ever remember it! i started watching classic films when i was very young, and right from the start i loved audrey hepburn, ginger rogers, gregory peck, and cary grant. why do u want to know? I would love to see the movie The Sun Also Rises and the one about Barrymoore. One other thing..I have always thought She age graceful...Better with time..So other age horrible and they still continue to act... If you read her bio. she stated it herself that she ruin it. Also in the book it mention that Irving told her if she was to marry , don't marry anyone in the business.. I look at it this way,she new when to get out and she still had a GREAT SECOND marriage as well..This doesn't happen in this era...LOL I was dissappointed that TCM didn't show those 2 movies before the Millionth veiwing of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and In the Heat of the Night but I soon found out why those other movies were showed later. Thread: Jennifer Jones:Filmdom's Great Actress:did Selznick destroy her career?!? just so you know the line ,hey this one is for.is part of the line that was said in the movie any guesses out there yet First, I have to say this to all you it's a wonderful life people. i believe you're right! That. is an incredible thing! I hope this doesn't make me unpopular. I am just adamant about the language and its imminent demise.
  20. Eddie Bracken was possibly the LEAST "Sexy" actor in hollywood! Next to Huntz Hall or Leo Gorcey of the Dead End Kids!
  21. Gee, I think I missed that one. But, I am not a BIG Anthony Quinn fan.
