Good analysis, TOOMANYNOTES! You're right! I forgot all about Frank Kennedy! Now, there was a wimp, and he paid for it, too.

Yes! I love Bette!!! Anything she does, she does well! And, she has no equal. I just like to fight for Hedy. She got such a bad deal, partly her own fault! One of my personal favorite Davis films is The Sisters. She gets paired with Errol Flynn!! Yea! She is just great!

Wow! If Ashley had been either Tyrone Power or Errol Flynn, Scarlett would never have chosen Gable! Those two are in my top five! I agree with most of you who conclude that Ashley had to be weak so Scarlett could push him around and eventually tire of him. Howard was perfect! Even we got tired of him. And, Jack, it's not that Ingrid isn't worth pining for! It's just that the role was wasted on her. Hedy should have done it. It was tailor made for her. When Louis says to Ilsa, "I was informed that you were the most beautiful woman to ever visit Casablanca. That was a gross understatement!" I think we all should have been looking at Hedy. Ahhhhhh! As for Gaslight! Hedy could NEVER have done it. That was Ingrid at her best! But another role I thought should have been Miss Lamarr's was Mr. Skeffington. Bette as Fanny Trellis, the reigning New York beauty, was believable only because of Bette's talent, and even then, questionable. Hedy would have just floated through the picture!

Garbo voted by "Guinness" as most beautiful ever!

Hey, thanks myidolspencer (and Mr. Jack) for all the kindnesses you bestowed on Miss G. I couldn't agree with you more!!! I have When the Lion Roars, and it is one of my many reference books. Have to have countless numbers of movies books for reference at any given moment. Does everyone out there have Star Stats by Kenneth S. Marx. Great for personal info. I will be sure to check out the Citadel Press - Films of series, but I am wondering if it is the same Films of series published by Cadillac Press? I have The Films of Greta Garbo in that series. It is all worn out! And, hey, what are you talking about? What survey, tcmprogrammer? Anything I should know about? -

Yea! Thank YOU, Mr. Burley! Have you seen it? Any good? Any word on The Divine Woman, yet? -
I love the old cartoons: Disney and Warner Bros. And, as far as I know, they didn't have any computers. They drew them all by hand, and they were so vibrant and mobile. The Japanese just don't cut it for me. They are so stiff. But, my favorites are the old Max Fleischer cartoons. I love Hoppity Goes to Town and Gulliver! Oh, and of course Miss Boop!

Who had the best figure in movies?
GarboManiac replied to JanePowellFan's topic in General Discussions
Ah, Raquel! The last time I saw her was in Reese Witherspoon's Pink movie, Legally Blonde, I or II. Has she done anything else lately? Would have loved to have seen the Cher duet! -
Oh, yeah! I forgot about The Women. I loved it when Butterfly McQueen asks Crawford, "Will I find anything in that ice box of yours?" And, before Joan can answer, Virginia Grey says, "Yeah! Cobwebs and a bottle of Gin!" The other one I think was way ahead of its time was Cary Grant in Hepburn's flimsy feather covered robe in Bringing Up Baby. May Robson asks him, "Why are you wearing those clothes?" He answers, "Because I just went GAY all of a sudden!"

Tallulah and Marlene together! Count me in!

If a man, I would be either John Barrymore or Errol Flynn. Neither lived past fifty, they were drunkards and carousers, and they were both exceptionally successful, handsome, smooth and charming. If a woman, I would be Hedy Lamarr. I would have been the most beautiful woman in the world, wouldn't have had to put out much effort in anything, aged gracefully with few complications (other than the shoplifting episode), and died in my sleep!
-
I love it when, in Twentieth Century, Carole Lombard as Lily Garland is trying to explain her relationship with John Barrymore. He keeps an eye on everything she does and never lets her go anywhere: "Simply because he doesn't want me to mingle with what he calls riff-raff, and that?s everybody in the world except us two!"

Well, mine is, of course, when Greta Garbo, in Camille, without touching Robert Taylor, kisses him all over his face. So delicate and sensual. It gives me tingles.

No, I haven't seen it. If it was made after the 60s, I probably haven't seen it. It is like[b feaito[/b] said on Trivia 101 by Ralph, there are so many movies to see from the classic era, I just haven't the time to go past the 60s. The film sounds pretty obscure. Was it very popular when it came out? I have seen Vic Morrow in some things here and there, and I think he is great!

Ninotchka remade as Silk Stockings

Gee, that didn't come out right! It sounded kinda snotty when I reread it. I mean I would love to see that ballet, but I wouldn'nt know where to start. -
Oh, WOW, mongo! Gene Tierney in Leave Her to Heaven! What a performance, and the color just made her the Most beautiful! She was nominated for the oscar for that, wasn't she? One of my favorite movies! I also agree with The Garden of Allah and a few of the others listed, but, hey Ken123 have you ever seen Sinbad the Sailor with Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. and Maureen O'Hara? Now, that is my Favorite color film!

Doris Day never gets her due! She was a welcome addition to film and had a great figure! -
FYI, if you like Clifton Webb, there is another series about Mr. Belvedere. The first film is Sitting Pretty (1948), then, Mr. Belvedere Goes to College (1949), and last is Mr. Belvedere Rings the Bell (1951). They are all great, and I love a series. I don't know about their availability, but Jack probably does.

I agree with you about Astaire!!! I loved him in everything he did. He and Ginger tore up the floor! But, my favorite of all times is You Were Never Lovelier with Fred dancing with Rita Hayworth (Gilda)! Wow! She was never lovelier than in that movie. Now, back to Silk Stockings, I love it when Cyd is taking out all of the clothes she has hidden around the room and dances with the silk stockings! Great scene! -
Oh, sorry! Thanks again, Jack! My misinterpretation. Sorry, to neuilly, too! I hoped I was mistaken.

How about Jayne Mansfield walking back and forth to the powder room in The Girl Can't Help It? -
Robert Montgomery in The Single Standard (1929) ???

No problem! Good luck on your search, and let me know! I love to find big stars at the beginning of their careers as extras! -
First, neuilly, I want to comment on something you said earlier. You said there was a biographical piece about her as an extra in Dinner at Eight. I am sure you just made a slight error. An extra is just someone who walks around in the background. She was the STAR of Dinner at Eight among many other stars. You must see that one! She shown brighter than the rest of the cast. and they were all heavyweights! Two Barrymores, Dressler, Beery, Lee Tracy and Billie Burke! Anyway, that is a Must see. Also, Red Dust and China Seas would get you off to a great start. But, like the others said, Girl From Missouri, Reckless (her only musical) and Red Headed Woman would fill out your education nicely. Oh, and don't forget her most fabulous film, Bombshell! She plays herself in that one based on her life as a film star.
