The Grammar Police are here!
"most prettiest!" Isn't that combining a comparative with a superlative? Using two words with the same job? Well, I guess I am just the most analest about all that stuff! And, I still think Hedy Lamarr is the mostest prettiest of all!

Ha! You are so SMART wordmaster! Thanks! (I kinda figured, but really wasn't gonna put any bets down.)

Great thread! Very funny stuff.
Some of my favorites:
A cough is usually the sign of a terminal illness.
If you decide to start dancing in the street, everyone you bump into will know all the steps.
Woman/girl running from the bad guy always seems to fall down.
There's always an abandoned building to take shelter for the night.

Oh, I would be happy to join you! It is one of my all time favorites! I have seen it many times and ALL of the characters are vital and fantastic! You were very fortunate to play such a fun role in such a distiquished play!

Hedy Lamarr and Paul Heinred. Come on, if they were trying to remake Casablanca, with everyone else, and put Hedy in the Ingrid role, they could have come up with somebody more electifying!
It might have even become a classic. I really think Paul held it back!

Well, I wouldn't call The Karate Kid, crap. More like a genre or type of movie. I liked it. I just don't think it belongs on TCM. I watch for Garbo, Gable, Cooper, Dietrich, Hepburn, Stewart, Tracy, and Lamarr. Ralph just doesn't seem to fit!

Oh, My GOSH! I just stumbled across this thread! I am hooked on Maria Montez and John Hall!! I have all of the movies you listed except for White Savage, and now I must to have it!! Ha! I will go online right now and fill out the form. I think the whole world should see their films. I have a friend who is the hardest sell on old movies, but I showed him a couple of the Arabian Nights movies with Maria and Jon, and he can't get enough!!!
Great job! I give you nothing but support!

I am waiting for The Hedy Lamarr Collection. I would hope they would start with Algiers, then Lady of the Tropics, then Come Live With Me, Ziegfeld Girl, White Cargo, The Heavenly Body, and Samson and Delilah. That ought to wake everybody up to how fabulous she was! OH, and maybe, The Strange Woman, which I think was her best acting job!

You know, feaito, I loved A Breath of Scandal! I know it is not one of the greats, but I love any movie about royalty! And, I thought John Gavin was a perfect match for her, and I enjoyed seeing her "old" and flashing back. I wish I had that movie. I haven't seen it in years!

I will always remember Jeff Chandler opposite Kim Novak in the story of Jeanne Eagels. Can't remember the name of the movie, though!

Yes, Fred, I am sure you are right. I have seen that, and it does look like fairies dancing. I am sure the ghost is The Uninvited, and the only other one I can think of, too, is Midsummer's Night Dream. Oh, yes, there were fairies in Three Wise Fools, or were those leprechauns?

I realize this is a little off topic, but has anyone seen Mel in Dame Edna's Christmas Special? It is out on DVD. He was so young, and so handsome! And, NAKED! He spent the whole time in the sauna on the special. It kept cutting to him with a towel wrapped around his waist, and slipping off! WOW! Let's hear it for youth!

Loved the movie about the making of the movie!
Mr. Depp.

Really! I am surprised they would leave him out! He was magnificent!
Have fun!!

Well, no. But, there is so much about High Society I do like. I thought Grace was perfect for the role of the Goddess. Frank did an admirable job as the befuddled writer, and Celeste was fine as his amore. I, also, loved the Who Wants To Be A Millionare? number. The sets were fabulous, and it was nice to see Louis. But, of course, after all is said and done, no one could beat, Hepburn, Grant, Stewart, Hussey, Mary Nash and Roland Young!

"Could we try to remember that we are hardly commercial travelers! It's bad enough we have to associate with these tourists on board without having to go ashore with them! You have all the vigor of a typical American tourist! Charlotte, sit down and write something to someone! For the last three days you've been behaving like an excited servant girl!" Gladys Cooper, Now, Voyager

I don't either. As I have said before, she was accepted into Max Reinhardt's Dramatic school and taken under his wing because he thought so much of her. I understand she was a little stiff, but that was because she was a LADY! She was always classy when she acted, and that makes people think she couldn't act. I think she was the forerunner to Grace and Audrey! Many people thought Grace was stiff (wooden), too!

I love Deanna. One of my favorite films was It Started With Eve costarring Robert Cummings and Charles Laughton. It was great. Well, anything she did was great because you just sit there waiting to hear that glorious voice!
And, I thought she grew up to be a very lovely young woman.

Yes, I do know. In fact, you are one of the reasons I posted this thread. You have excellent taste in many areas! Everyone else posts threads on all of the other "GREATS!" But, I have yet to see a thread on Hedy Lamarr!
-
I have been reading, what so many people have written, about Hedy. She seems to be of great importance! Whenever there is an open discussion she is mentioned! In The Least Sexy thread she was the hottest topic, and even in I Swoon For ..., she is often repeated. Yes, there are many who were great, Garbo, Davis, Hepburn, Bergman, even Crawford. But, Hedy always rises to the top, like cream, to meet each one of them head to head. I am impressed with the number of supporters. Just what is it about her that makes her so outstanding (I mean besides her beauty, a topic always welcome for discussion)?

Saratoga Trunk with Ingrid Bergman and Gary Cooper, The Strange Woman with Hedy Lamarr and George Sanders, Lloyds of London with Tyrone Power, Madeleine Carroll, and George Sanders, These Glamour Girls with Lana Turner, Marsha Hunt, Anita Louise, Jane Bryan, and Ann Rutherford, and Cain and Mable with Clark Gable and Marion Davies.

Ha! I've seen it! It is just Horrible. Let's "right" a new one with that Os---- person in the straightjacket attended by TOOMANYNOTES prodding him on with an electric poker or such. Nicholson, mad of course, could play TOOMANYNOTES and the Os---- person could be . . . ?

SEEN ANY GOOD MOVIES LATELY?

Oh, you bring up some much! First, I just flip over Isabel Jeans! She is so underrated and forgotten in the shadow of Alice Brady and Billie Burke. I loved her in Tovarich and Gigi! She was wasted in Suspicion. I had forgotten the movie had such a stellar cast. I am going to have to seek it out and buy it.
Now, as to John Gilbert. I never had an inkling that was the same story. Partly because I never saw it! I would love to. I didn't think Gilbert was bad in talkies. I did see Redemption. I thought we was very good.
