Alex Ritman @alexritman A year after the #BaftaSoWhite controversy, this is easily the most diverse #BAFTAS nominations in history. Hugely impressive list. 21 of the 24 names in the performances categories are first-time #BAFTA nominees. Anthony Hopkins, of course, isn't one of these. 9:54 AM · Mar 9, 2021·Twitter for iPhone

Alan Jr. frequently was compared to his character actor father Alan Hale, Sr. It's interesting that they both played Porthos -- 40 years apart -- in films about The Three Musketeers. Alan Sr. was in "The Man in the Iron Mask" (1939)... ...while Alan Jr. was in "The Fifth Musketeer" (1979).

The drama "Nomadland" was named Best Picture Sunday at the 26th annual Critics' Choice Awards. Based on a nonfiction book about American nomads wandering in the western United States. the film won three other awards from the Broadcast Critics Association (BFCA), including Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay (Chloé Zhao, pictured below) and Best Cinematography (Joshua James Richards). Zhao dedicated her Best Director award to Michael Wolf Snyder, the "Nomadland" sound mixer who recently died by suicide at the age of 35. One of the night's memorable moments was when Alan Kim, the 8-year-old star of "Minari," burst into tears during his acceptance speech for Best Young Actor. "Oh my goodness, I'm crying...," he said. "I hope I will be in another movie soon." On the television side, Season 4 of "The Crown" -- which focused on the unhappy marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana -- captured four awards, including Best Drama Series. Bob Strauss @bscritic I enjoyed #Coming2America more than I recall liking #ComingToAmerica. Influences from #BlackPanther and #LionKing probably helped. A deep roster of comedy pros keep the laughs flowing, though #WesleySnipes is the scene-stealer supreme as he tends to be lately. 1:01 PM · Mar 5, 2021·Twitter Web App

Bob Strauss @bscritic #RayaAndTheLastDragon is #Disney animated formula done right. Engaging story, gripping action and gorgeous aesthetics borrowed from Southeast Asian cultures and - believe it or not - videogames. Bob Strauss @bscritic #QuentinDupieux, the French filmmaker behind such surreal nutjobs as #Rubber and #Deerskin, is at it again with #KeepanEyeOut. It's a black, police interrogation comedy with some neck-snapping twists and a casual relationship with reality. #ManBitesDog's #BenoîtPoelvoorde stars. 2:05 PM · Mar 5, 2021·Twitter Web App
