The Hawaii Film Critics Society, which was founded in the 50th State in 2015, has selected Aaron Sorkin's "Trial of the Chicago 7" as its Best Picture of 2020. The film also was honored for Best Original Screenplay (Sorkin) and Best Editing. The drama is based on the true story of the 1960s activists charged by the U.S. government for conspiring to organize anti-war protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
The award for Best Director went to Spike Lee ("Da 5 Bloods") over Sorkin and awards season favorite Chloé Zhao of "Nomadland."
