The screen drama "Nomadland," based on a nonfiction book about Americans traveling the West without permanent homes, won the top prize Wednesday night at the 32nd annual Producers Guild of America Awards. It was always a treat to watch Segal singing and playing the banjo during appearances on NBC's "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson." But here's a segment in which he also brought a trombone.

It's always amused me that Segal starred in the 1981 screen comedy "Carbon Copy," in which he played a white businessman who discovered he had a black son he never knew about. His young co-star -- who made his feature debut opposite Segal -- had portrayed Malcolm X on stage. Wonder what ever happened to him?

Since Elle Fanning will play MacGraw in "Francis and The Godfather" -- the upcoming movie about the making of that classic tale about the Corleone family -- there could be a revival of interest in the 81-year-old actress and her films. MacGraw was married to Robert Evans, the chief of production at Paramount Pictures, when "The Godfather" was developed. But she was with Steve McQueen by the time filming began on "The Godfather Part II."
