  1. Neptune's Daughter. Starring Esther Williams, Red Skelton, and Ricardo Montalban. (1949)
  2. Great post on Mr. Curtis, mongo. Interesting bio.
  3. Bama Swirl is still popular. HEB (San Antonio-based) and just about everywhere else. I'm a late bloomer boomer!
  4. Great explanation. I enjoyed reading it!
  5. I'll never forget when I saw Pepe in the theatre for the first time! We had just come back from a car trip to Mexico, and had stayed at a hotel where someone had just met him because he had stayed at the hotel or one nearby. Cantinflas was popular here and a megastar in Mexico at the time.
  6. This just in for the Bama buffs: http://www.cfsauer.com/prod_bama.asp
  7. Bama peanut butter and Bama jellies were sold in pre-Walmart era stores call Fed-Marts in the sixties. They were yummy! Fed-Marts were small bulk-in-bargain type stores, and the most popular "preserves" were the peach and strawberry variety, according to my vast, internal landscape of memory.
  8. I've never seen Visions of Light. Why do you think that Cardiff isn't mentioned?
  9. Thought you might like this recipe: Cheese Crackers 2 sticks of softened butter 2 cups Rice Krispies 1/2 cup flour 8 ounces of grated sharp cheese 2-3 ounces of grated cheddar 1- 1 & 1/2 teaspoons cayenne ( if you like them spicy, otherwise leave it out.) Manually blend all of these ingredients together. Roll into 1-inch balls. Squash down with a fork. Bake at 375 for about 8-10 minutes. I've lost the original recipe, but I always make a test sample. If it's too runny, add a little more flour. If it's too dry add a little more cheddar cheese. Rice Krispies need to be fairly fresh. It's harder to alter the batter once they have been added. The kids love these, not to mention me!
  10. > > I'm hit or miss with my net access, and wouldn't do > justice to the trivia. I'll gladly pass to someone > more qualified. > > Di I had trouble with posting, too. Anyone want to be next courtesy of Di? If not, I had a second choice.
  11. It maybe the universal motto for the newly divorced male, but it is also the correct response! Congrats! You're up next!
  12. I think he would be a good choice for the cartoons. The contributions of hundreds of animators in decades previous and their expertise would be duly recognized with his salient points.
  13. No. Sorry, but no. Clue #2: A statewide, scandal-ridden political campaign.
  14. Homemade cheese crackers! (Sharp Cheese, Cheddar Cheese, Rice Krispies, butter, and a dash of cayenne.) Big Double Batch lasts about two days. Can't fight off the teenagers to make them last longer than that!
  15. 18 is my lucky number! Here goes: Clue #1: Henpecked husbands
  16. I liked that one from The African Queen, too. One more from me: Charade Cary: Oh, you should see your face! Audrey: Why? What's wrong with it? Cary: Nothing.
  17. That is an adorable photo! Great find, Lucky Dan.
  18. I enjoyed that immensely. I think the paperback is coming out sometime this spring. It was a fascinating read. There were several times I just laughed out loud. The funniest moment in the text for me was when Robert Mitchum saw her coming and ran the other way!!!! Amazing life she had. Server made the "cat" reference several times throughout the book, and she did seem to have nine lives. A survivor. Hysterical moments, sad moments, but Server seems such a great researcher. I also enjoyed Burgess Meredith's little autobiography. I read the Ossie Davie/Ruby Dee book, and found much to love there, but not many folks down here to discuss it with. Right now I'm plowing through Marion Meade's Bobbed Hair and Bathtub Gin. How about you?
  19. "You baked bread this morning, and you washed your hair... I could find you in the dark..." John Wayne in Hondo (Not necessarily that I would want the Duke to find me, but it's a sexy, come-hither line that I haven't ever heard repeated cinematically in a western since.)
  20. Some of the folks at the BFI Media Studies Conference this summer were talking about it at a screening I went to in London in July.
