BRONXGIRL'S MOTHER, HENRY FONDA'S HIRSUTENESS, ETC.
SueSueApplegate replied to Bronxgirl48's topic in Films and Filmmakers
Oooooh, Jackie. *Dead Ringer* is one of my favorites... Bette is a total hoot in this one. She gets to play two different women! That big huge dog, Duke, just chows down on Pitiful Peter.... "Bring out the De Lorca jewel box, baby.. or else.." Duke gave him the "or else." That dog gave her role more humanity because Duke hated her sister, but warmed to Edie.....and it also saved her from Gigolo Pete.... I loved Karl Malden as the ever faithful beau..... Also, I think the female singer at her club was also the lady who sang "Roly Poly" in *Pillow Talk*. Doris Day sang a chorus of "Roly Poly" after the lady at the piano (Perry Blackwell). Then Blackwell sang "You Lied, You Dog," hence some sort of weird canine tie-in with *Dead Ringer*..... -

I'm still looking at the schedule and making decisions. That's truly the most difficult part of the TCM FESTIVAL-- making choices. So much fun, so little time!! Since I've been receiving numerous emails and calls concerning where to go, what to do, and time management issues, I suggest all interested parties (and there will be parties! ) follow the links to these informative threads---- The NEWBIES THREAD: http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=159290&tstart=0 HISTORIC SIGHTS: http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=152178&tstart=0 Another tip: Keep checking your email and reviewing the press releases. There are surely to be more announcements! -
> > Don't think you're going to see everything that you set out to see. Your rear will be sore from sitting or your eyes won't focus any longer or you'll just be too tired. I missed the late showing of Bride of Frankenstein and Out of Circulation cartoons but I didn't regret it-my body just said "enough!". > Wear something comfortable, as you are sitting, standing and walking a certain amount of time. Grauman's and the Mann's Chinese theatres are all very close together but allow enough time to get to the Egyptian and the Music Box theatres. Try to get some air and take a breather from films when you can. One evening, my sister and I went out of the area for drinks-it was a nice break (although I would have liked to spend more time in Club TCM too). Try to see something that relates to old Hollywood while you're in town. I went to the Hollywood Heritage Museum. The Hollywood History Museum is nearby. It's housed in the old Max Factor building. LZcutter and hlywdkjk both have lots of info on historic spots of interest posted in one of these threads. > Oh, one last thing: I agree that having water and snacks with you is a really good idea. There is so little time between events and showings. You might scope out some eating places in advance. There are quite a few in the complex that houses the Chinese Theatres. > > Edited by: countessdelave on Apr 8, 2011 9:22 AM The advice submitted by THE COUNTESS is some of the best I've read so far. I think the most difficult parts about attending are the choices we have to make. So much fun, so little time!!

Dear Wolfie and Darryl, Thanks for the updates! As for Chris Isaak, Ooh-la-la, as Leslie Caron might say! Kyle knows I just adore a poolside bash! Muriel Hemingway is also introducing one of her films... *Manhattan (1979) - Introduced by Mariel Hemingway* *Woody Allen?s slice-of-life valentine to New York features the actor-director-writer alongside Diane Keaton, Michael Murphy, Meryl Streep and Oscar nominee Mariel Hemingway. The gorgeous black-and-white photography is provided by Gordon Willis, all set to a collection of memorable Gershwin tunes* I've been scrolling through all the press releases from TCM, and I can't find Mary Ann Mobley or Chris Isaak officially listed . Sorry about that. *Girl Happy (1965) ? Poolside screening at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel* *Elvis Presley?s last big blockbuster features the King of Rock ?n? Roll as a singer assigned to keep an eye on a young woman during Spring Break in Ft. Lauderdale. Shelley Fabares co-stars, along with Harold Stone and Gary Crosby. The soundtrack album, featuring the title song, along with ?Spring Fever,? ?Do the Clam? and ?You?ll Be Gone,? climbed to #8 on the charts. This special screening will take place poolside at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, the host hotel for the TCM Classic Film Festival.I'll keep my fingers crossed. My eyes are already there with all these fantastic stars, films, professional historians and directors....* I can't wait until the final schedule is posted. I hope it's today! -

I will, Lynn! Emberly, I am going with at least two friends from the Austin area. How will you recognize me? I am a 6 ft. tall cowgirl, and I will be wearing a black cowgirl hat that might have some rhinestones on it by the time I arrive at the Paramount! -

*Dear Heart* is one of my favorite Glenn Ford movies. And Geraldine is a scream. She milks every drop of calcium out of a scene. That crazy flower she carried everywhere...it cracked me up. And how she made up that fake name, Mr. Bimbo Jones, it is just like high school. But I loved her attitude in that film because she wouldn't let anybody or anything keep her spirits low...she just kept a goin'. Her perseverance and her look-on-the-sunny-side attitude is going to insure that she is successful at something, even if it is spindly-plastic-plant hoarding... But that film has so many great character actors from that era in it. Both women who played Gladys Kravitz.( Alice Pearce, and Sandra Gould)...Mary Wickes, Ruth McDevitt, Richard Deacon, Barbara (My strap broke, your honor) Nichols... -
