DRACULA (1931)

> {quote:title=kriegerg69 wrote:}{quote}It's really not that big of a deal...and correctly put, the original British title, SCROOGE, was changed to A CHRISTMAS CAROL for its U.S. release. The first release on home video on VHS back in the early 80's was indeed the CHRISTMAS CAROL titled print. Actually, it is a big deal if you're a fan of accuracy.
-
Robert Osbourne stated that Alastair Sim's SCROOGE (1951) was originally entitled A CHRISTMAS CAROL but changed to SCROOGE to avoid confusion with the 1938 MGM version. That is incorrect. It was originally entitled SCROOGE and that is what TCM showed this month. Who IS writing these intos?

Yes, we are so much more enlightened these days...just look at the GOP frontrunners. Yikes!

> {quote:title=TopBilled wrote:}{quote}The film is overrated. And a bit clunky. Universal horror fans are rabid, but I do not think much of the product lives up to its reputation. There are other films from 1933 more worthy of sustained interest and new viewer attention. Boo, hiss.
-
I associate him with the Universal horrors...THE RAVEN, MAN MADE MONSTER and SON OF DRACULA.
-
Where are the Universal Horror Classics for October?
PrinceSaliano replied to Rickey's topic in Horror
Buy all the Universal titles on DVD and watch 'em whenever you like. Don't wait for TCM and support Universal by buying their product. -
THE REPTILE is very representative of Hammer Films in general...long, dull stretches with uninteresting characters/actors between appearances by the menace. I don't dislike Hammer, but gimme Universal any day.
-
There's a lot to like about DRACULA'S DAUGHTER (especially Gloria Holden) and I tend to focus on that.

> {quote:title=BillyBrown wrote:}{quote}TCM continues to show a badly cut version 50+ years later. When Harker stakes Dracula's wife/friend she starts to get old etc. In the TCM version you don't see her get old - they inserted a shot of Dracula twice! I know this because in 1959 I saw the original release version in a theater. There is a scene completely cut when Van Helsing (Cushing) stakes Harker & they cut part of the staking of Mina (Marsh). WB owns this movie & I often wonder why they bother to show it if they have such little respect for the authors & the audience. 50 years of censorship is enough. I'll have to check my DVD.
