> Perhaps my second greatest passion, besides classic movies, is classic Motown. Became a fan very young, with the first J5 singles, followed soon after when I inherited my aunt's album collection (she wanted to get rid of stuff when she got married), which featured many 60s Motown albums. Have been a fan ever since.
>
> The most intriguing thing about Motown was the way it was set up by Berry Gordy, in part patterned after the Hollywood movie studios of the golden age: 20s-50s. Varying combinations of writers/producers would try out different compositions on different artists, submitting finished product to be voted on at weekly quality control meetings. A given artist group might need a new single, and recent recordings by the different production teams would compete to see which would get the release. In the process, much was shelved, often of a quality as good as what was actually released.

> Luckily, in recent years, some of this vaulted stuff has come out. Several years ago, Hipo-Select established a division, Motown Select, which features limited edition cds of many Motown artist, both big and small, available online only. many of these are loaded with never-before released tracks, some are stunning! I recommend all Motown fans to check this site out.
I've purchased many of those Hipo-Select releases.

Well, Jesus was the original long-haired liberal.

And the under-appreciated Kim Weston.

I bought my first VCR in 1983 (from Sears) when I discovered I could buy MURDER BY THE CLOCK and MURDERS IN THE ZOO from Eddie Brandt's Saturday Matinee.
-
Oh, hell no!
-
This is a tough question. I've always put I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE at the top because of that sequence where Carre Four (the zombie) follows Jessica and Betsy through the fields to the houmfort. Stunning.

> If your 75% based on personal experience stat was true than same-sex-marriage would be legal. Even in a liberal state like CA, same-sex-marriage last (barely), thus I find it hard to believe that such a high percent of people 'tolerate an alternative lifestyle'. By I guess it is all based on how one defines tolerate. I know some of the major churches do not tolerate being gay (well not in a way I would define tolerate).
Agreed. The fact that same-sex marriage is not legal in all 50 states pretty much answers the original question, "Does coming out hurt a career?"
And what happened to the gay-themed films announced for June?

I was always under the impression that it was supposed to be "chick-o", but people assumed otherwise.
And it's Oona Merkel and Oona O'Connor...yot Yuna.

Unless it's country music.
