  1. Lon had comedic supporting roles in SAN ANTONIO ROSE and TOO MANY BLONDES (both 1941). I would love to see Evelyn Ankers as Star of the Month when Universal titles become available to TCM.

    The Ritz Brothers also made a series of comedies for Universal, as did Olsen & Johnson and Hugh Herbert. And the Andrews Sisters starred in a series of musical comedies...without Abbott & Costello.

  2. I love RETURN OF THE VAMPIRE. It's the one time where Columbia tried to make a Universal-style horror movie. Armand Tesla was a great part for Bela and Frieda Inescourt was excellent as a female Van Helsing-type.

    If you want the real facts about the making of MARK OF THE VAMPIRE, read "Hollywood Cauldron" by Gregory William Mank. It dispels many myths.
