Thelma certainly made enough movies to be Star of the Month. And don't forget her Hal Roach 2-reelers with ZaSu Pitts and Patsy Kelly.
-
This is truly what TCM is all about. Keep Woody Allen, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. Gimme Mae Clarke, Dwight Frye and Thelma Todd.
-
Thelma Todd is a great favorite of mine. TCM did show THE BIG TIMER (Columbia, 1932) so I'm hoping we will get to see DECEPTION too.
Thelma Todd for Star of the Month!
-
ZaSu Pitts for Star of the Month!
-
Yes, very exciting...except that Thelma Todd's DECEPTION has been replaced by VIRTUE which has already played on TCM (it is a good pre-Code, though). Bring back DECEPTION!

SEVEN FOOTPRINTS TO SATAN (First National, 1929)
-
JOURNEY'S END (1930) directed by James Whale
-
That reminds me, they canceled Glenda Farrell's birthday tribute last year too!
-
It's not from the 1970s.

You do make one salient point, the movie is easily available and played to death, so I'd like to see a real obscure out-of-print film take that time slot. The Reincarnation of Peter Proud anyone?
How about CROWHAVEN FARM or CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS or DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT or BLOOD MANIA or SO SAD ABOUT GLORIA or THE HOUSE OF SEVEN CORPSES or LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH?

> Since Ninotchka did not laugh at the original joke the first time around, the part about we have no cream. do you mind if we hold the milk instead, Melvyn Douglas got frustrated and tried to tell the joke a couple of other times. Thats when he began to get mixed up and he started telling the joke incorrectly. Thats when he said what he did about the glass of milk. Also, the other people in the caf? who heard the original joke, didnt laugh at it either. So that made Douglas even more frustrated. Finally his chair slipped and he fell on the floor, then everyone laughed at that.

HOORAY! Fred got it!

> Also, TCMProgrammr has posted here that the problem with many of the Columbia titles is that when the deal was done with Sony, Sony didn't take into account that many of the titles in the Columbia film library needed to be transferred to a format that TCM could broadcast.
>
> As this costs money and time to transfer, Sony has obviously not been as quick to transfer those titles as TCM was thought they would be.
That only answers half the question. Why has this been going on for 2 1/2 years?
-
I do agree. However, I expect more pre-Codes and B-movies each month. I don't think that needs an explanation, but TCM is the only outlet for those films. They are not available elsewhere (including DVD). I can accept the "Big Tent" approach touted by others, as long as vintage titles are well represented, which is not always the case.
-
For 2 1/2 years now, Columbia titles are announced and then removed from the schedule (REDHEAD FROM MANHATTAN, ALIBI FOR MURDER, I'LL FIX IT, NINE GIRLS, THE LADY OBJECTS, MURDER IN GREENWICH VILLAGE...and now DECEPTION). What is going on and why has it been happening for so long? Somebody needs to get it together!

Be prepared for a rambling explanation concerning analog v. digital; why TCM can't do certain things, but try enjoying FATHER OF THE BRIDE...it's twice a month.

I think Lon Chaney is my fave silent star. The films are unusual and many survive (other silent stars are not so fortunate).

> TCMProgrammer, any chance we'll still be able to see DECEPTION, pulled from the schedule? Many of us, particularly those of us who groove to Thelma Todd, would really, REALLY love to see that one! Thanks for your response!
Yes, let's get it back on the schedule!
-
The scene in which the joke appears is not about the joke.
-
Constance Bennett was a big pre-Code star. Seems her films used to appear more regularly on TCM.

Seeing the original DRACULA with Bela Lugosi.

Damn!!! I really wanted to see that one. Nat Pendleton and Thelma Todd! Someone must be punished...

Diear God, I thought he was posting "War and Peace".

Didn't you know Douglas Fowley was in SINGIN' IN THE RAIN? I thought every classic movie fan knew that. Next time I'll draw you a map.
