  2. Gloria Stuart was definitely not as big a name in 1933 as Leigh was in 1960. In fact, when she made this film, Gloria had been in pictures less than a year. She was never a big name, but I suspect Universal promoted her as such because they didn't have many stars during the Laemmle era like the other studios. They threw her into many B-movies during 1933-34. She later wound up at Fox supporting Shirley Temple and the Ritz Brothers. She is best remembered by genre fans for other James Whale titles, THE OLD DARK HOUSE and THE INVISIBLE MAN. But a star she was not (as much as I like her).
