Hedy Lamarr: The Most Beautiful Star!
cinemabuff64 replied to GarboManiac's topic in General Discussions
Okay guys, I need you to pull TMN away form the "If you can't say something nice" thread because he is really bringing out the worst of my 50% PUERTRICAN, I'm sick and tired of his bashing me! -
In MEMORIAM:Mike Douglass..favorite classic talk show host
cinemabuff64 replied to cinemabuff64's topic in Your Favorites
I agree with you Garbomaniac, talk shows back then had a special magic. They weren't used as forums to magnify and politify all of the ugliness in the world today. They were just what they were supposed to be,idle, entertaining conversation, not not political debates and infomercials they have turned out to be. -
In MEMORIAM:Mike Douglass..favorite classic talk show host

Johnny Carson was THE talk show king but I was referring more to the heavy competion of afternoon talk show hosts.Back in Johnny's day there wasn't all of the competition there is now at night.Johnny brings back a lot of wonderful childhood memories of nights I spent at my grandmothers watching his show.I used to ask permission to stay up late if the trustworthy TV GUIDE indicated that one of my favorite 'stars' would be on. -

H'WOOD 10, ELIA KAZAN,MARSHA HUNT, WHO ELSE?
cinemabuff64 replied to annelindley's topic in General Discussions
Hey everyone, check out my new thread in the 'favorites' forum. -
When I was growing up in the 70's there was a vast array of GREAT talk shows with 'talk' ,not all of this controversial crap they have mixed in with talk shows now. My favorite talk show host back 'when' was Mr. Mike Douglass who passed away today (his birthday),he was 81.His show seemed to have an edge on all of the others. Other notables worth mentioning are; Merv Griffin,Dinah Shore,Dick Cavett. Which one of these or others would you say stood/stands out more for you, please share anecdotes from any show/artist you might especilly recall. Thanks and may Mike rest in peace.

I completely forgot about "The Grapes of Wrath",great choice KEN.I still haven't seen the other two you mentioned though.

Hedy Lamarr: The Most Beautiful Star!

It is really uncanny isn't it?The resemblance is obvious but Hedy is prettier than Joan.Hedy always portrays a provocative sureness that captivates,,just look at you my dear, totally smitten!! LOL!! -
I'm faithful to "Gone With The WInd",but I also like "Wuthering Heights", "Rebecca","The Philadelphia Story", "Jezebel".There are too many to pick just one.
-
All of the movies mentioned are great choices;I agree with,"How Green Is My Valley",and Imitation of Life",both versions. While we're on the subject of Lana Turner, I'll add "Madame X",I cry everytime I see that movie. Then on the romantic side there are; "Slpendor in the Grass",and "The Way We Were",both examples of the 'impossible' love.I know I'll come back later with more, just let me get warmed up.

My philosophy is that if CHER can win an oscar then just about anybody can win one.

Correction:GEORGE CLOONEY won LAST year for "Syriana",Morgan Freeman won the year before that for "Million Dollar Baby".

Dorothy Lamour, Linda Darnell, and Gene Tierney
cinemabuff64 replied to msladysoul's topic in General Discussions
All three of these women were beautiful in different ways and all three were good actresses but my personal favorite of the three would be Linda Darnell,Then Dorothy then Gene. -
Oh my God you are so right.John Garfield and Leguizamo do look alike. All the while I was watching Garfield today I was thinking of how he reminded me of somebody and eureka! They have the same shape head, face.Their bodies are even similar.John Leguizamo has the acting range to portray him to a tee.
-
She really does. Her and Garfield make a convincing couple. This is the youngest I've seen her though.

I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record but this is one of THE best pictures of HEDY.She displays an air of sophistication and elegance like no other. -
the top 3 sexiest men in the movies (old hollywood)
cinemabuff64 replied to hud's topic in General Discussions
I'll go for Cary,he's my all time favorite.Kirk was kind of nice looking but not my type though I love him as an actor.Sidney is definitely nice looking but he's not in my other two. They would be;Clark Gable and I would have to think about the third because there are so many I like.I know there must be one of my posts on here from before. -
Katharine Hepburn,Joan Crawford,Bette Davis
-
I really liked "All About Eve","Jezebel".
-
Did you boys have fun talking about me on the 'Grand Theft Oscar' thread?
