Tell her that it's an epic love story in the midst of war, that's it. -
The marvelous Jack Warden didn't even have a "Star?"
cinemabuff64 replied to spencerl964's topic in General Discussions
I suppose I never gave it much thought about how a 'star' obtained their 'star' but I guess that I just assumed that the city or the studio were behind it.As for Jack Warden I really admired his acting, he was consistently great. His passing our is a loss,May he rest in peace. -
TCM's New Osborne - Mankiewicz Odd Couple Promo
cinemabuff64 replied to yanceycravat's topic in General Discussions
I just now saw the commercial and thought it to be well done.It pegged the way to portray Robert, but for Mankiewicz I think that they portrayed him as a tasteless, less contributive outsider.I realize that both of these gentlemen have many a generation gap between them but they could have looked for a better scheme for the younger. I also realize that maybe in the scheme of attracting a younger viewing audience maybe they felt that they had to portray him that way.I personally mute the TV every time he comes on,I find him pointless. As for Robert Osborne, I hang on to his every word, can't get enough of him. -
Classic Stars who had an Inferiority Complex!
cinemabuff64 replied to msladysoul's topic in General Discussions
Seems to me that Judy Garland had several complexes, and I remember reading that so did Marilyn Monroe, come to think of it I seem to remember reading somewhere that Natalie Wood had her share of complexes. -
Your most memorable movie theater experience?
cinemabuff64 replied to LuckyDan's topic in General Discussions
It's been a while since we've been on at the same time, hasn't it?You caught me quite sentimental tonight. If you never had the oppurtunity to go to a drive-in theater I really feel like you missed out on something magical. I don't know if it was because the only times my parents weren't fighting was when we made those outings or if it was just the whole scene, the familiarity of being in your own car, the thermos of coffee (which was always snuck in,along with corn dogs here and there),the smell of the hot dogs from the concession stand about 10 yards back, not to mention the frito pies, THE HOT CHOCOLATE!YUMMY! All this to a backdrop of a million stars both on the screen and in the sky,and in the fall we were bundled up with our grandmother's old quilt.I'm glad I had this memory tonight. It gave me a warm feeling. -
Your most memorable movie theater experience?
cinemabuff64 replied to LuckyDan's topic in General Discussions
Well, this is a first for me since I joined the forum...it took me thirty minutes of reading from other threads and going back and forth before I finally became enthused about this one, it brought back such a warm memory....My most memorable theater experience would be when I was propped up on the hood of my father's golden 1967 FORD MERCURY ( I loved that car !)on top of a plush quilt eating popcorn with him at the drive- in theatre back in Houston...You might ask, "What was playing?".......I didn't care much for it then, but, then again, I was only 5 yrs. old,"Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid".My father passed away in 1981 when I was only 17 and I've missed him more each day. That movie is now a part of my collection,a connection to the past and present, another cherished memory. -
I'll start with the men......There is no other man as light on his feet as was Fred Astaire,Gene Kelly was just such a powerful dancer who at the same time had good looks and boyish charm (what Astaire lacked).Donald O'Connell was somewhat in between Astaire and Kelly, while he was light on his feet, like Astaire, he could also be powerful, like Kelly. As for the women though I really like the obvious choices of Hayworth and Rogers and Cyd I also like Leslie Caron, Ann-Margaret and Juliet Prowse.

When I was younger people always said I looked like Princess Diana, but now they say I look something like Kim Basinger so I don't get it.

What is the best recent film you have seen?
cinemabuff64 replied to BlackandWhiteCharm's topic in General Discussions
I'm glad that you mentioned the movie "Just Like Heaven", not because it was a great movie, as a matter of fact I categorize it as entertaining, but I wanted to express my absolute adoration for the main actor of that very movie, Mark Ruffalo. He is my new movie crush, his dark looks, his sexy voice, there is something about him that makes me want to hug him.He is also a great actor, he also did "13 Going On 30 ", with Jennifer Garner, a.k.a, Mrs. Ben Affleck. A really good recent movie I saw was "An Unfinished Life" with my very first crush, Robert Redford, Morgan Freeman, and Jennifer Lopez.I also really liked "The Prize Winner from Defiance Ohio" with Julianne Moore, it was great, she is always great. -
It's rained here everyday for the last two months, right now it's pleasantly cool and breezy @ 67 degrees.

Howdy LuckyDan!! How are things in my home state? Long time no 'read'.

Bick Benedict was easily dominated.he wasn't only dominated by his sister Luz but also by his wife.He loved to be around women who could control him,his daughters walked all over him.But I just love this movie, can see it over and over and never get tired.

I think that Betsy Gaynor,Juliet Prowse,Lola Falana,Jane Russell also had some incredible legs, let's not leave out Ann Miller.

What about "Miracle on 34th Street?"

How about Luz in the movie "Giant" played by Mercedes McCambridge?

Favorite Movie to watch when your depressed
cinemabuff64 replied to HepburnFan08's topic in Your Favorites
Well, I don't know about anyone else but when I'm feeling a little down I like to watch something light and carefree like the old Road movies with Bing Crosby and Bob Hope or any of the Doris Day movies, she can lift anyone up right away. -
How would you re-cast a modern movie with classic actors?
cinemabuff64 replied to BallofFire's topic in Your Favorites
SusannO...I agree with you about Greg Kinnear. He has great comedic timing,is utterly charming and is just so pleasant to see on screen. Here is my contribution to the thread.....How about casting Tracy and Hepburn in "Something's Got To Give"?,or, "Chicago" with Jane Russell,Betty Grable or Marilyn Monroe, and John garfield? -
Who's got your heart? (A male and female question)
cinemabuff64 replied to bhryun's topic in Your Favorites
Clark Gable has my heart. He is sexy, manly, cocky and not ot be taken for granted. The way his wild hair touches down just resting on his eyebrow, the way he his naughty look penetrates as if seeing through you......Ah! He's the ONE. -
What about "A Summer Place", and "Gone with the Wind?"
-
Although I adore Kate Hepburn, I think that I would be either Olivia De Havilland,Greer Garson or Irene Dunne simply because they were such lovely, gracious and elegant women...that had what a lot of women lack these days.

Hello Garbomaniac! Long time no read,Ha! I have to say that your list is the absolute creme de la creme of the golden era.......Knew I could count on you for some great input.
-
I agree about Audrey Hepburn, she had great genes. She managed to keep her lithe figure and her glowing eyes, she was the epitome of grace and elegance. Another actress that I would like to mention is Raquel Welch, she is like wine, gets better with aging.
