Actors/Actresses behind the voice.....
cinemabuff64 replied to cinemabuff64's topic in General Discussions
Hello GM, In regards to your comment on John Gielgud, I also thought he was fabulous and very amusing. There is something about a british accent that is just so sofisticated and refreshing.I liked the whole movie but had trouble seeing Liza Minnelli and Dudley Moore as a couple.Don't get me wrong, I love Liza Minnelli but there are only so many roles you can put here in. -
Best Introduction shot of a character

I absolutey love this shot of Rhett Butler at the bottom of the stairs looking all cocky and ever distinguished. His look is almost naughty. -
I must do the same...............until tomorrow.

I actually have two which come to mind; "Wuthering Heights" when both Heathecliff and Cathy are walking through the moors and the heather she loved so much. What was poignant was that she was dressed all scraggly like when they were kids, in this scene I think they are kids. My second choice for now is "The Way We Were" when Katie sees Hubbell after what is imagined to be many yrs. and she runs her hand through his hair, AH! The look in his eyes just melts me every time and the tears in her eyes brings tears to mine. The fact that she doesn't have her hair ironed is kind of simbolic to her character living true to herself. Two impossible love stories.

You know, I never could understand what Scarlett saw in that gangly Ashley Wilkes, he is another one who had no backbone! He and Melanie were two peas in a pod.You just know that poor old Ashley Wilkes would never know what to do with someone the likes of Scarlett.
-
Didn't Doris Day slap Rock Hudson in one or maybe more of their movies? For some reason "Pillow Talk" comes to my mind. But then again it could be James Garner in "Move Over Darling".
-
I guess they were two extremes but Melanie was sweet to the extent of not having any backbone.
-
We seem to be talking about the same scene.Hey Garbomaniac, do you not think that Vivien Leigh has a certain resemblance to Hedy Lamarr in this movie?
-
What better example of sweet (via flirtatiousness) than when she is poised on the steps of Twelve Oaks with all her prospective beaux ? Or when she goes to visit Rhett when he is in jail to borrow $$ for Tara? Though it was manipulation via flirtatiousness, she was, therefore, sweet. We all know she never got anything any other way.

These are good questions, I've noticed as well.Could be that a lot of these people love the classics but don't feel like they can come up with anything in response to the same.Maybe some thought the forum/thread would be different, or some coverup for something else, who knows?

That is an example of why GWTW is my favorite movie. It takes her character and transforms it from a spoiled, rich debutante into a savvy, hardened, suffering pauper and back to the spoiled B**** from before. Poor Scarlett, she had such bad timing. Was that movie done in technicolor? if so, it was amazing.Should be put in that thread.

Seeing how I was born in'64 I watched whatever classic movie that my Mom put on.I precisely remember her not liking Mickey Rooney, therfore I assume I never saw one of those movies because of that.Mom wouldn't watch any actor who wasn't easy on the eye. I'm not that way, I appreciate all shapes, sizes, and even skin colors. I find the positive in everything and everyone.
-
How about when Scarlett slapped Rhett then wanted him to kiss her but then he told her he wasn't going to kiss her even though she needed kissing but by someone who knew how?
-
Come on, you have to help me come up with some favorite movie dads.If not we'll have to post a new thread on favorite moms because I think that would be more productive/responsive.More memorable.
-
It's good to see you on as well JB, it's pretty lonely at this hour.I suppose I should try to read back on some of the threads but every time I try I find it so time consuming. Thanks for the help.Like always, It's appreciated.

Now I'm glad that I can't sleep. For some reason I keep forgetting about Sophia Loren, she is so incredibly beautiful and equally talented.I love "Houseboat", not only because of her but because of my man, Cary Grant. You can't go wrong with that one.
-
Do you think that I change the channel?
-
LOL!! That story about your mother watching westerns reminds me of my kids when they see me watching classics.HA! Ha!
-
Getting back to the thread............When did the whole technicolor thing start to fade away?
-
I think that you speak just enough, I mean, gosh! You have all of this knowledge and I hardly ever get to finish a movie because I'm up and down an awful lot. That's why sometimes I can read a thread but I can't even pinpoint an answer, my love is vast but my knowledge is little. Ha! Ha! I'm just diving into the whole classic thing after a while being out of touch with it, but the love will always be there. I just wish I had more time to see the movies. I wish I could contribute more to the comments on the thread.

I was just 'fixin' (the 1/2 of me that is Texan), to say that we always seem to the lone ones out at this hour.At least we keep each other company.
-
The word is frumpy, she looked like a low-class or maybe middle class, haus frau. She played the sacrifing mother to a tee, I really feel sorry for her being married to that frog-faced tightwad, reminds of of someone close to home. Now that is a lonesome life!
-
Gee Garbomaniac you make me all teary eyed when you talk about your grand dame (with all respect). I think that it's great that you can speak of her, I guess it kind of keeps her 'alive', right? I am very sorry that you have had to carry on without her.She must have just adored you, I can tell by the way you speak of your day to day antics.

While I love Bette Davis and all of her movies, one I would like to mention is "The Catered Affair", it was such a different role for her. Debbie Reynolds is her daughter and Ernie Borgnine her husband.

I bought the movie "Laura" on my mother's recommendation and I was taken with Gene Tierney, she was beautiful, great bone structure.
