All I know is that I got hooked maybe four or five yrs. ago,I think that Robert Osborne is an excellent, knowledgeable host, better than the host they have on that 'other' channel.Robert Osborne actually knew most of the stars from yesteryear.About Ted Turner, he has made quite a contribution to the restoration of a lot of old, or 'classic' movies. His favorite movie is GWTW.A true southerner indeed!

Hedy Lamarr: The Most Beautiful Star!
cinemabuff64 replied to GarboManiac's topic in General Discussions
I don't think she was meant to play the plain-Jane, down and out type of movies like Jane Wyman or Barbara Stanwyck, so I don't know what people expect then. She did well at the roles she was meant to play. -
I'm going to make it a point to see a couple of her movies.

What is the best recent film you have seen?
cinemabuff64 replied to BlackandWhiteCharm's topic in General Discussions
I agree that "In America" was a very good movie done by the same director who did The Boxer w/ Daniel Day-Lewis, Jim sheridan. It's an all around Irish show of the best of talent. I really liked the actuation of the colored, sickly neighbor, I would give you his name but it's one of those hard to pronounce African names. -
Hedy Lamarr: The Most Beautiful Star!
cinemabuff64 replied to GarboManiac's topic in General Discussions
This thread quickly caught my eye. My mother showed me my first Hedy Lamarr movie because she informed me that she was the most beautiful starlet of her time. Little did I know that we would agree on something for once. Heck, I'm a woman and I can see her appeal, aside from being gorgeous she had charisma.I don't think of her as a bad actress. -
The Philadelphia Story or High Society?

like always I agree w/ you ......Grant/Hepburn any day. -
Here is where I disagree w/ you about Deanna Durbin, she was totally cute with brilliant, expressive eyes, a vivacious spirit and a shy yet spontaneous smile. I remember her (Thanks for the pic) because my mother was once a soprano singer and she always spoke of D.D. I might have managed to see one movie w/ her when I was a child and these are the qualities I remember about her, adorable. There was one male singer who starred/sang w/ her more than anyone else, what is his name? By the way ,Happy Father's Day if you happen to be a father.

Happy Father's Day to all of you fathers out there from the beautiful island of Puerto Rico!!!!!
-
Being new to the message boards it's hard for me to tell which of you are male ,or female for that matter, unless you have the obvious name.......I just wanted to wish a Happy Father's Day to all of you fathers out there!

A little gray never hurt anyone.....One person who definitely wears it well is the country singer, Emmylou Harris, Do you know who she is? if so, have you seen her lately? She looks great!
-
I totally agree with you on the plastic surgery topic, Joan has had so much that she doesn't even look like the same person anymore.Another person who is starting to look bad to me is Cher, she's getting rubber faced.

I'm 42 and I absolutely adore classic movies. In response to this show everyone is talking about, I figure, why have the imitation if you can have the real thing, plain and simple. the market is saturated with one dumb reality show after another. GIVE US A BREAK!!!!!!!
-
Thank you for taking the time to answer my query. If the movie has Cary grant in it I'll see it sooner than later,He is one of my favorites.Happy Father's Day to all of you fathers out there.

Wow! You are lucky to find such great deals on such great movies, where I live there is only recently a Borders, we have no Suncoast or other video store here.

Happy Father's Day To all you fathers out there!!!

It's true that we are what appears to be the last of a dying breed.

Ok, you people went way over my head w/ this one........Obviously I didn't see the movie, though I 'm beginning to wonder if that is a good thing or not, but I can tell you that in seeing a movie from another country you have to look at three things, the yr. it was made, the yr. portrayed in the film and the country it represents. Latin movies have a lot of repressive issues, remember these countries depend strongly on the dominance of the church and socialist ideals.

You already sold me on it, I love both Gregory Peck and John Garfield, there was a discussion about Garfield on another thread a couple of days back.

Thanks for such an indepth answer........your vast knowledge is greatly appreciated.I've only been doing this a short time but I smart enough to know that you are the one to ask. Kudos to Roger Edens and Judy Garland I just love "Over the Rainbow", no matter who sings it, but Judy did it best. I have a Pearl Bailey version of it and even my 21 yr. old daughter loves it.

Both Cee and TOOMANYNOTES have a good point, Though I would much rather here about classics It's good to talk about the recent ones as well every once in a while.
-
and the list goes on......... Mark Ruffalo is a good actor and he's extremely sexy!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Sorry, I left out the fellas for the "Now" generation........ They would be.....Colin Firth,George Clooney and Adrien Brody.

Katharine Hepburn, Irenne Dunne, Joan Crawford Cary Grant, Spencer Tracy, Clark Gable, for the golden era. Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman,Meryl Streep for this generation.

The movie "Gilda" is the only one of Rita Hayworth's movies that I have seen in full.I like the movie and think that both she and Glen Ford have a good rapport, though I've heard it said that the same carried on into their real life as well, at least by him. I remember seeing Ms.H in a movie in blk. & Wh. where she must have been a newcomer, she was still a brunette and she was in somewhat of a supporting role, always in the background.Does this movie sound familiar? I know I didn't give you much info. on it but maybe something will snap...I would like to see this movie. THANKS!

Does Deanna Durbin sing in her movies? Is that what made her famous?Did she have a pretty, shy smile and a young, baby face?....I'm trying to place her.
