My philosophy is that if you can't say something good then don't say anything.I think that Aaron Spelling was an excellent producer. His body of work is amazing! I doubt there is anyone who can compete w/ him now or for a long time to come. The man had it on them all.
For someone who grew up poor he had to do something right to be rich many times over.He was a serious man who lived in a town with ruthless people and constant scandal yet he managed to live scandal free.
I think that we should show some respect in moments like this, it's not a lot to ask.

Did you happen to see "The Valley of Decision" yesterday on TCM (of course)?
-
I'm so glad to see you on, it was pretty lonesome here for a while.I guess you're a night owl like me.I blame it on my hormones, what's your excuse?HA!

Thank you for your post.
I love old movies because they bring back the importance of values that we seem to lack today. As you said, you watch them for the nostalgia, that's perfect.
I see in them the wonder and questions and hopes that I had in my youth when I shared them w/ my Mom.I see the world in the way I saw it back then when anything seemed possible.
I love the black and white films, they are special to me.

I've been reading this thread for a few days but haven't contributed anything because I can never remember first scenes but now that I read yours it would be my choice, Judy Garland/cast in "Meet me in St. Louis" it captures small town America preparing for family festivities.I love it and you captured it well.

Yes! Sean Connery, I can't believe I forgot to mention him in the first place. Not only is his voice distinctive it's sexy just like him.
Lauren Bacall was also a great choice. She has an incomparable voice, no wonder they use it for commercials, it's distinguished and classy, which translates to quality
How about.......John Wayne, Dean Martin,Chill Wills, Slim Pickens,Walter Brennan, and Lionel,Ethel,Drew Barrymore?

I actually found charm in all of the Rocky movies.I always like to root for the underdog and that is exactly what he portrayed.Rocky was strong yet gentle, his tender caresses w/ Adrienne were sweet and gave us another side of his character.
Now, Rambo was definitely an over-rated film.
I hear that Stallone is in talks to make both another Rocky and Rambo film.I say thumbs up for Rocky, thumbs down for Rambo (as if we need more voilence expressed).
Loved your story about your 2nd date.

I agree w/ you about American Beauty, I found it strange and had a hard time finishing it,I was really disappointed when it won an oscar that yr.
Brokeback Mountain was the same for me, I kept wondering when it was going to finish, I kept looking at the clock. If it wasn't that I was watching it w/ someone I would have turned it off.
-
LOL!!!
When I read about Kate Hepburn in "Dragon Seed", that got me!I have tried several times to see that movie and I find her so miscast that I can't bring myself to finish it, that and the fact that it is a boring movie.I always try to go past the first 20 minutes and I never do.Although I didn't see "Foxfire" I can't imagine Jane Russell playing a 'debutante/society girl,' she's not that type, she was always the maneater, experienced woman type.Victor Mature, I'm sorry, I never liked him in anything and as far as Kim Hunter, she was definitely not the sexy or even the pretty type, maybe this role was better suited for Jane Russell.
-
Rosalind Russell was a really good actress whose personality I often compare to that of Katharine Hepburn. She, like Katharine, played roles of women w/ strong personalities. The chemistry between her and Cary Grant in "His Girl Friday was a good one.
-
You have me cracking up about the crying comment about June, as much as I defended her earlier, I realize that she sure was a crier. Some actresses are weepier than others.
-
I need to know if you could recommend just one for me to purchase to add to my collection which would that one be?
-
What I liked about Martha Raye is her great ability to make people laugh, I smile when I think about her. Eve Arden was a very tall, deep-voiced person who seemed to carry herself well. She always played a best friend, someone who knew what she wanted and was doing.

You are so right Garbomaniac, I don't think I'll be able to stay online, I think I have a problem w/ my computer. It's @ it again.
I've seen Butterfly McQueen mentioned, wasn't she the one who played Prissy in GWTW? If so that was a great choice!
-
When I think about it, there are similarities in both Stanwyck's and Joan Crawford's voices.
-
Wow! I forgot about Lee J. Cobb,Thelma Ritter, Gregory Peck, these are some good ones.
What about Sir Alec Guiness,Humphrey Bogart,Jack Lemmon?Does anybody agree w/ these?
-
It's never too late to move back, Garbomaniac. When we were on last night I was having all sorts of technical problems, I kept getting shut off for more than an hour.I finally gave up and dragged myself to bed but very unwllingly.
I'm really excited about the Gable boxed set, does anyone know how much it's going for?
-
I suggest you try San Francisco next, when you see "Dancing Lady" let me know how it is, I've never seen it.
-
Another good pairing, I'm on a roll here, Natalie Wood/Warren Beatty in Splendor in the Grass.....Elizabeth Taylor/Rock Hudson in Giant.
-
That was definitely a moment of all screen moments when Tracy made those comments to his beloved Hepburn. It spoke of what the movie was about. But what about Merle Oberon and Lawrence Olivier in Wuthering Heights, now that was another great pairing.
-
I don't know if these are the 'funniest' but they certainly are funny,Pillow Talk and, once again I mention, Move Over Darling.
-
Check for both Arden and Raye....they could also be put in my thread of distinctive voices, right?
-
I've been shut off for 30 , it's very annoying, will close for today.......Night-night.

why do you love "old"movies?

That was the first time I saw it and I really liked it although I had a hard time watching Greer Garson play a maid.I have always liked her and we got a good look at her in glorious black and white. As for Gregory Peck , smooth like always,he was the youngest I've seen him.Lionel Barrymore was immaculate as always, I expect nothing less from him.I to, was, in and out of that movie, I was cooking dinner.I need to see it again uninterrupted.
Cagney69......Charming is a great description for the classics.
