"Imitation Of Life" Essential?
cinemabuff64 replied to bradtexasranger's topic in General Discussions
I've seen the movie many, many times and never tire of it. As far as Lana Turner, her beauty was never more apparent than in this movie. She had an amazing presence throughout the movie, especially in the scene that James mentioned where she was wearing a gorgeous jeweled necklace and her dress was turquoise, her makeup, hair and look as a whole exuded elegance and classic stardom. On another note I had forgotten how handsome John Gavin was and Sandra Dee was adorably cute. -
What about Oleg Cassini? He was a great designer. BTW, I think the idea is fascinating.

Hi guys! I wonder what Garbo is thinking about in the pic with the turban. She looks so melancholy ('Melancholy Baby').
-
I hadn't gone back to page 2 and now know what you're talking about. That picture is really pretty but looks touched up,they always did that in those days. They took a color closest to the persons own natural color and enhanced it. Therefore,Garbo's eyes MUST have been green, sorry for you Ken! This Swede had GREEN eyes.
-
That's the color I had assumed they were......It figures, it fits her to a tee.
-
Oh, that is so sweet,thanks.
-
Then you have a picture like this and you think it's the epitome of femeninity and grace and you want to see more like this as well,I'm confused. BTW,I love this pic overall, this was a good hairstyle for her.Her makeup is subtle on the eyes and emphasizing her mouth. Garbo had great bone structure, she could make any picture look amazing. What color were her eyes?

I liked that story as well and when they showed that scene you could tell that there was something unusual going on with his face. Jane Withers was very entertaining and is quite impressive both mentally and physically. She really has the gift of gab. Margart O'Brien is still very pretty and her usual self, she is a more subdued type than Withers. I thoroughly enjoyed the parts I managed to see of the interviews, kudos to TCM and Robert Osborne!
-
Well I think that an effort should be made to show more pics of her smiling, anyone else agree?
-
Hello all,is that a picture of Garbo? It's the first time I see her smile. With a smile like that I don't know why most photographers preferred her in a serious pose. Actually it could have been the studio, etc. Whoever was to blame I like this picture!
-
You are so right about Osborne.....He knows how to blend in and be 'at home' and make his guests 'feel at home'. He keeps the conversation rolling without it seeming forced.I enjoy his every interview,he is a master.

I absolutely love BOTH versions of 'Sabrina'. The Hepburn/Bogart/Holden one being my favorite.I feel that each actor in that movie was perfect casting. The Holden role is my favorite role of his along with his in'Love Is a Many Splendored Thing'. Of Hepburn and Bogart, they had chemistry.Hepburn always made you believe she had chemistry with each of her co-stars. Take Astaire for example,I never considered him to be a good male lead for 'Funny Face' but through viewing the movie she makes you believe it could be possible. That's the beauty of acting. The best actor in the Harrison Ford version was by far Greg Kinnear.Harrison was up to par but that dreadful actress,(Julia Ormond?) was miscast.I suffered the whole movie seeing her when I kept thinking that 'someone, anyone' could have done a better job.

Sorry GM, But I have to say the bad as well as the good... I really don't like Garbo's hair in these last few pics,it takes away from her beauty. She looks best in styles less fussy. She was a natural beauty and didn't need all of the makeup and hair styles they gave her. I'm not saying that the pictures are bad ,just not some of her best.

Anybody else's TCM out right now?

Brad,I do not have a problem with my TCM....... but since you posted this a while back I'm sure you're problem is solved. They're showing 'The Unknown". -
Okay, first of all, the pic of Garbo and the pants is really good,it shows a different angle on her. It's natural, not posed. Second of all,who is that incredibly handsome man with her?his 'beauty' equals hers (sorry but it's true!).
-
I have always been one to play with my makeup and hair and I just love both on Garbo, those two pics are amazing! She was such a classy lady.........chat with you all tonight! Be good.

I'm going to keep it in mind to see one of her movies sometime. Isn't it getting late for you Garbomaniac? And whatever happened to Ken? He's too quiet

Who had the prettiest face in movies, past or present?
cinemabuff64 replied to dedhedjim's topic in General Discussions
If that's the case then maybe she could also be Puerto Rican! Ha! Ha! -
So you would say that Carroll's personality was more along the lines of Greer Garson or Deborah Kerr?
-
Madeleine Carroll and Sterling Hayden must have made a dashing couple. I always thought that he was an elegent man,and a good actor.I just forgot about him.

Now that I look at MC better I notice that she had huge eyes like Lombard.
