I remember Andy's Gang (and Froggy) fondly. I thought it was Ramar of the Jungle that he showed, but I guess not. I always liked James Fairfax, a regular on many 1950s shows.

Ida Lupino was in The Light that Failed with Muriel Angelus.

Murders in the Rue Morgue is a very creepy movie; and, I think, effective. Cinematography by Karl Freund. "Swan Lake" over the opening credits. Great cast, including D'Arcy Corrigan as the Morgue Keeper. Corrigan played the Spirit of Christmas Future in A Christmas Carol a few years later. Murders in the Rue Morgue A Christmas Carol (Corrigan died on Christmas Day, 1945.)

You suppose correctly. Lord Attenborough won two Oscars for Gandhi, for Best Director and Best Film. He also won numerous other awards, including four BAFTAs. As an actor, he was in countless movies, beginning with In Which We Serve. Sheila Sim and Richard Attenborough were in the very first cast of The Mousetrap, the longest running play in the history of the world, still on the London stage after 70 years. Baroness Attenborough was also in many movies, beginning with A Canterbury Tale (1944). Her brother was Gerald Sim, a prolific actor probably best known to American audiences for his role as the rector in To the Manor Born. Lord Attenborough's brother is David Attenborough, who won three Emmy Awards for his science programs. The first actor to be awarded a life peer and entitled to sit in the House of Lords was Lord Olivier. Lord Attenborough was among a handful of actors so honoured (I think there are six in all of British history.) And now it is your thread, Princess. Perhaps one day you will become Baroness of Tap! \

Thursday's hint: Husband was one of only a handful of actors given the highest possible honour by his government, entitling him to sit in the upper chamber for life and to be called by the title "Lord," rather than merely "Sir."

Today's hint: Couple was not American.

I think those who took that name may have been inspired to do so because they made that pilgrimage. Frank’s father was an actor with the same name. Virginia may have climbed to the top of the Croagh Patrick and said to herself, “I simply must name myself after this county.”

Today's hint: Husband's brother, now aged 96, is in a specialized area of film making and won many awards.

Many years ago I spent some time in County Mayo, Ireland, a beautiful part of the world, out west on the coast, just north of County Galway. The name evidently derives from the Irish: Contae Mhaigh Eo, meaning "Plain of the yew trees." Croagh Patrick, a place of pilgrimage, is in County Mayo. I remember seeing it from my bicycle, on a beautiful clear summer's day in 1971. It looked very much like it does in this photo. Perhaps Frank, Archie, and Virginia made pilgrimages there.

Great actor, brilliant career. For me he will always be Mr. Blifil in Tom Jones, to whom Edith Evans asks the immortal question, "Clandestine amours so soon, Mr. Blifil?"
