The novel is absolutely awesome. Made me really look forward to English Lit. class.

Well, yeah, that's one possible explanation. Another might be that strict gender stereotypes were beginning to be challenged in the 50's, anticipating the more open rebelliousness of the 60's?

Ah, the lovely things you can find on YouTube

I dunno, I tend to think of toughness and tenderness as qualities that all human beings share in common. Just look at Bette Davis & Joan Crawford, they knew how to be tuff!!!

Having never really read the book... I was still blown away by the movie first time I watched it... I've always loved Broderick Crawford since A Little Romance, one of the nicest movies about young people in love!

She and Anne Baxter were the best things about the otherwise forgettable Cimarron remake.

Got an HD-DVD player? -
OMG!

also I am curious is there a TCM HD channel if so then digitally recording some of the OOP movies may be quite attractive option. Nope. No HD yet for TCM, but soon hopefully. But I doubt people will be recording DVDs in HD of movies if they are available on pre-recorded DVDs. I believe it would be more expensive to record than to buy pre-recorded, unless prices drop drastically in the near future.
