Well, you know what they say, Anne, "if you can't say anything nice..."

-
There you go again! Who's trying to "dictate" anything? You express your opinion, and I'll express mine. Have some respect for that, at least!
-
Exactly -- like the 6 lost RKO films which might have been lost forever if TCM hadn't gone to look for 'em!

-
Well, there's always the unexpected...

-
I have no more "control issues" than you do, hun. I do think there's an overabundance of negative threads, many of which are obviously started by trolls. Sure there are exceptions to that, but the balance still seems out of whack. Not that there's really any kind of "editorial process" here because this isn't a publication, it's a bulletin board. Everyone is free to express an opinion, unfortunately many do so with the express intent to troll and have ominous-sounding threads about the end of the world as we know it and TCM becoming another AMC.
So perhaps you do think these kinds of threads are a positive influence for the boards?

Does your local library have DVDs you can check out? I love checking stuff out of the library, the 7-day loan period with optional renewal is nice!

-
Well I'd hope they could at least release Spamalot to video after it ends its run, like they did with Cats.
Your point about "realism" is a very good one. Why would audiences be willing to accept just about any fantastic-looking thing on-screen when it's computer-animated imagery (CGI) but not be willing to suspend disbelief because people sing and dance on-screen?

-
Criticism is one thing, organized smear campaigns is another. Sure, you all didn't mean to get together and start lambasting the poor guy just because one person didn't care for Paint Your Wagon!. But it is strangely reminiscent of a smear campaign, isn't it?
The poor guy is dead, too bad you can't think of a single nice thing to say...

No TiVo?
Irony of ironies -- I was very sorry not to be able to watch the Marx Bros. marathon (which I thought was a great way to end the year) because I usually reserve the last day of the year to watch the That's Entertainment! trilogy.
But yeah, any time they want to have a Marx Bros. marathon, that's awesome! Those are the funniest guys ever!

Well, it just occured to me, one of the greatest ironies about musicals is that the first blockbuster hit of the 21st century happened to be based... on a movie from the 60's!

Just thought about it while reading the news...
-
Ah, that's cool

-
To the best of my recollection, that thread wasn't at all about Oscar-month programming.
-
Ah, those were the days!

-
I don't think I've ever said otherwise. Just strikes me as odd to find so many men being so utterly uncharitable towards a director from the old days who is no longer with us. Kinda makes me wonder what y'all say about your dead relatives...
-
Ah, but did you start any "sky is falling" thread?

-
Close friend of J. Edgar Hoover, huh?

-
I don't think it was the first reply... but in any event, whether I even bothered to post or not, they're going to get a lot of people worked up because so many of those who post here regularly are frustrated -- maybe not with the subject coming up in the first place, but just with the general doomsday thread titles that always seem to accompany it.
Personally, I think it's way too much of a coincidence that almost all of these threads have some sort of ominous title... but if you want to give everyone complete benefit of the doubt, that's your right.
-
There are a lot more mediocre directors working on film today, and they make a gazillion dollars in spite of their clumsiness.

-

I gotta ditto that! Thanks TCM!

-
Some people might disagree with that.... but if you want to stick to the Loganphobic platform, by all means stick to it.
-
Well Capra also showed "greedy bankers" in some movies...
-
Yes, but that person really would be an idiot if they drew conclusions based on this month's programming without looking ahead at the next two month's schedules, when they're posted for everyone to see. Heck, if I did that, I'd be an idiot, too!
-
Yup, and it's all so very convenient to forget that they're all uncut and commercial free, and to look the proverbial gift horse in the mouth.

-
Yup, I'm one of them too, and I'm not whining or forecasting the "destruction of TCM". In fact, I think I like it better this way, I can create my own evening lineup, my own Saturday matinees, I can be the master of my domain!

Well said, filmlover
