  1. If there was at least a shade of nuance to your comments about movies that didn't live up to your expectations then at least it would seem like you tried to keep all the qualities of a movie in mind.
  2. Ah I take it you mean the one with Steve Martin trying to step into Peter Sellers' shoes?
  3. Well I would try not to let it become too much of an issue, as long as everyone has fun during family get-togethers.
  4. I would have preferred to do without any extras if they could at least have done a decent job of transfering The Gang's All Here and not ruining the beautiful colors.
  5. Well I think that in light of his recent performances away from the movie camera, a lot of people are thinking of Tom Cruise it quite different terms than simply limiting one's judgement to his performances. And this is one of the few cases where I think that, yes, perhaps off-camera behavior really should set off some alarm bells. And all the more so now that he wants to control his own studio.
  6. I watched this the other day. It was good but I kept wishing I had the right kind of 3-D glasses to watch it properly. The ones I had from a theatrical showing of House of Wax and other 3-D movies didn't work.
  7. So nobody knows if the 1944 Brazil has ever played on TCM?
  8. Well we can still hope they'll smarten up and open up their vault!
  9. I really should read more about him, sounds like an intriguing fella. :0
  10. Well I'd be happy to just see it out, and hopefully not tied to some silly date on the calendar
  11. Yeah but still I think a lot of people find the part about the Scientology and stuff a little... offputting, perhaps?
  12. A great musical? No. That's why I thought the NYT review was quite enthusiastic, all things considered.
  13. That was a funny one, alright!
  14. I shake my head sometimes at the turns so many of these threads seem to take these days. Care to elaborate?
  15. Slightly disappointing that the DVD doesn't include any extras except a theatrical trailer.
  16. Well it's almost sad that the only Lean movie from the 40's that most people seem to remember is Brief Encounter, he made a lot of other good movies. Let's hope more showings of This Happy Breed and Madeleine help change that a bit!
  17. Yeah but regardless of ratings they need them to help promote interest in the movies in general.
  18. Best way to check out a viewer rating is probably through imdb.com or netflix...
  19. Did anyone else catch that little homage to Clockwork Orange in Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny? I love how even low-brow fare these days will usually do a little something to honor the great movies of the past!

    Mae West

My favorite Mae West one-liner: "I always save one boyfriend for a rainy day...and another in case it doesn't rain."
