GK always excelled in the musicals, but he was also quite good in a non-musical movies like Black Hand and The Devil Makes Three, a touching movie in which he starred alongside Pier Angeli.

Amen to that, cinemalover!

Well who knows, a lot of celebrities might surprise us, if we talked to them in private!
-
That might be one of the titles they release... I believe this is what they said: Big MGM Musical promo coming shortly....some great titles, big surprises...and hope to have an Eleanor Powell set done before the year's end.
-
I'd also like to see the Lon Chaney Vol. 2 out, He Who Gets Slapped will be great to have not just for Browning/Chaney fans, but also Norma Sharer fans.

Too much of a good thing can be bad for you

What classic movies do you think are very underrated?

Regarding the apartment with the panoramic view of the bay, the answer is simple: you don't want to know! -
Can we really expect the Academy to hand out Oscars like they were candy to every star who reaches 90? These actors had the great fortune to work during the Golden Age of Hollywood filmmaking and be in some of the most memorable pictures of their time... I think that's more than rewarding in itself, and a lot of Hollywood's greatest stars who have passed on never got an Oscar. Isn't it really giving this silly award much more importance than it deserves?

Maybe she was happy with it just the way it was.

Was it during the original release of TWOZ? Bet it must have been quite an event!

"Gimmicky" was the standard in the early decades of the movie musicals, they all had to find something to make their numbers unique and memorable, if possible. Both were superb dancers and excellent all-around entertainers, some of the very best America ever had! -
Oh, I forgot to get back to you regarding AGYG -- that's got to be some of the worst bunk I ever heard because MGM wouldn't have approached any other studio for a loan when they had great musical talent in-house. That's a big part of why they prided themselves on "having more stars than there are in heaven." Once it became clear JG couldn't have fulfilled her obligation, then I guess that became another story.

It's fun to read that. Thanks Ayres!

Cinemascope replied to filmlover's topic in Classic Film DVD Reviews
Not a bad price, it was on sale at amazon.com for about $40 not too long ago. vallo -- wasn't shooting the messenger, just wish moviesunlimited could compete with the prices of other online retailers. Or at least offer TCM viewers a special discount! -
Hello, I always look forward to the wonderful screensavers TCM offers viewers every month! However at the moment I'm not seeing any new screensaver for March, that page still has the ones for February... or were those meant to stay there thru March 3rd to coincide with "31 Days of Oscar"? Many thanks and keep up the great work!

I believe it was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

I think it should be fairly obvious that the f-word, with few exceptions, still remains a no-no in television. And sorry but CF's quote just sounds like most people talk these days unless they're politicians or spokespeople/PR persons (and they will talk the same way when not in the public eye!)
-
Please do not misrepresent what I said, BLU. I said CF wouldn't want to sound like an old ****. I never once said anything about Debbie. I'm just talking about a lot of people who, REGARDLESS OF CHRONOLOGICAL AGE, speak like that.
