Gene Kelly .vs. Fred Astair... Who is better in your book??

Like I think Kelly > might have done a little more with Yolanda and the > Thief... But I think they are both wonderful, now > I can't imagine loving one more than the other... Exactly. They can both be awesome at what they do on-screen. To me FA was always more of a fatherly type, and GK more of a brother type. But they're both tops at what they did! -
I don't see it as a class difference. I see it as a generational thing. Of course someone like CF is going to be more informal. Not that she couldn't sound like an old **** if she wanted to, but why would she want to?
-
The footage in the promo definitely seems to indicate CF could be a much more lively co-host for The Essentials (not that I disliked Molly Haskell). But you're right it looks like they're having fun and keeping it less formal (which IMHO will help).

Have you seen GK: Anatomy of a Dancer, katie?

Perhaps AH wanted it to be deliberately vague. On a related note, has anyone heard about the possible remake? Well, if you don't like the idea of a remake of The Birds, sign this petition! http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/don-t-remake-hitchcock-s-the-birds.html

I should hope they will release it on DVD eventually, too. -
I don't think there's ever been a better number to, well, make 'em laugh!

Well those ad people sure had some imagination.

Mmm. On second thought maybe it's a good thing they cast Audrey Hepburn in the movie.

What classic movies do you think are very underrated?

Do they show movies in OAR? I know TRT isn't a Cinemascope film, just curious. -
Great links, guys!

many of them probably go with whichever designer is "hot" at the moment. -
Sounds interesting, who's the author? What else has she/he written?

Well, watching this and Coney Island back-to-back is a revealing experience... hard to believe but the latter has way better preserved colors, at least in the print used for FMC showings.
-
For anyone who missed them, Coney Island and Orchestra Wives are showing again on FMC, this Friday morning.
-
I think the ones that aren't out on DVD are definitely worth recording... it might be a while before WHV gets around to the official release.

Did you ever try any R2 DVDs?

If Wings hasn't been released on DVD by then, TCM is scheduled to start showing it starting in 2008.

The Founding Fathers of this nation, and the Framers of its Constitution, had no intention of its being a "Christian nation"; that's why the First Amendment to that selfsame Constitution reads "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." By refusing to grant the majority the power to create a state religion and turn the U.S. into a "Christian nation," the First Amendment not only protects minority religions, and those who choose not to belive in any religion, but protects Christians, themselves, from ever becoming a persecuted minority should some other faith overtake it in sheer numbers (or Leviticus, or Deuteronomy, for that matter). As for Europe, for the most part they take their secularism far more seriously there, and have better and more just societies because of it. As indeed it should be, and thank God that this nation welcomes everyone equally, whether Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, or any other religion (or lack thereof!)

Earlier today I heard "apple-****" while watching the Fox musical Coney Island.

Correct. And (SPOILER ALERT) Don Coreleone subsequently does require help from the undertaker, in making his son Sonny look as good as possible for his funeral.

That's a great lineup!
