  1. As the article states, The studio hopes to launch MGM HD by the end of the year as a movie channel drawing from its library of 4,100 theatrical titles-about 1,200 of which currently are available in the high-definition format-and hundreds of hours of television content. I suppose if they have 1,200 titles available on HD format right now, they could have at least another 1,200 ready by the end of the year. The important thing is that more and more companies are getting ready to start broadcasting movies in HD, and working to get their libraries ready for the HD format.

  3. Well, it sort of is. Though there's a big difference between modern-day MGM and the old (pre-1986) MGM library, which apparently isn't part of what's going to be included in the new HD channel.
  4. jarhfive, the studios and TV companies are only doing this with regards to YouTuve because they're concerned about whole shows and whole movies being available for free... that is all. People who post small clips for whatever purpose simply get caught up in the uncertainty between the new online providers and the old-fashioned media content companies.
  5. Absolutely, Boles wasn't the right actor for the role.
  6. What does the origin of the DVD have to do with the production of the movie?
  7. Look all I can say regarding copyrights on movies is, every time I see another title that has fallen into PD hell, it just makes me wish copyrights on movies were indefinite. Having said that, I don't approve of them using copyright as an excuse to take down short clips that would probably fall under the fair use doctrine, if anyone ever bothers taking it to court.
  8. Ditto on Movies Unlimited being almost invariably overpriced.
  9. Well, ain't that supercalifragilisticous!!!!
  10. http://www.tvweek.com/news.cms?newsId=11628 MGM Planning HD Movie Channel By James Hibberd Venerable movie studio MGM is in conversations with cable and satellite operators to launch its first domestic television channel: MGM HD.
  11. Well I wonder if you'd feel the same way if you were an artist or writer and relied on royalty payments to make a living.
  12. Netflix doesn't carry most Asian imports. Quo Vadis has never been released on DVD here, which is what Netflix carries.
  13. Are you talking about the Italian neo-realists?
  14. So sad you need to feel hatred instead of simply paying no mind to things you don't like.
  15. Well I personally always get a good chuckle out of 'em. Although sometimes the way they try to set up the bait can be almost touching!
  16. Same here, MissG, any time a classic movie is rescued from PD hell is a thrill, and it's all the more special in a movie that stars Ava!
  17. There's so few old-time actors left now, but a good number over 90. Widmark, Malden, Wallach, de Havilland, Van Johnson, Forsythe. I wish them all well. Amen to that.
  18. And what about the critics who praised Fahrenheit 911? I'll bet you think they're crooks, too...
  19. I said "foreign films", followed by, "are they in English?" because I looked in the channel guide and here on the schedule, and neither one said anything about being subtitled, or dubbed, yet they did specify 'foreign'. TCM has a policy of showing movies in their original versions, so I'm sure that would apply to the original language as well. Therefore, foreign-language movies aren't likely to be dubbed. Foreign films could mean anything including British, Irish, Australian films.
  20. Hun, Netflix does have The Ten Commandments, it's one of those movies that spans two discs and they ship both of them to you. And the reason they don't have Quo Vadis is because it's never been released on DVD. Stop jumping to conclusions and thinking there's some religious explanation...
  21. A Christian society? Hardly. I believe there are many religious beliefs represented in the U.S. today, and we should respect all of them.
