Get Well Greetings to Classicsfan alias ml, marylou
bansi4 replied to loliteblue's topic in General Discussions
Just to let you know that I heard from ML via mail and she is feeling much better. The only thing now is that the modem on her computer went kaput and she can't access the internet. It may be until December before she can get a new one. In any event I'm sure she will be very happy to hear that all her friends on the TCM boards were concerned about her. You can be certain that one day soon she will pop in and express her thanks to you all. Mongo -

ML, Our Thoughts and Prayers are with You. Mongo -
moira, your analysis of the two stars is splendid. In fact it helped me to decide my choice since I was also debating back and forth. With that said my choice is James Cagney since I believe he is the most versatile of the two. I also have a weakness for more of his films than that of Bogart. However in the long run both 'tough' guys were just great, and still are. Legends of Hollywood. Mongo

They were both born in New York City just 5 months apart in 1899. Both were noted for their gangster roles and both received 3 Best Actor Oscar nominations each winning once. Cagney won for his song and dance man while Bogart won for his soused river boat captain (not your typical gangster roles). Most of all both actors left us with many fine films and performances to enjoy. Of the two legendary actors who was your favorite and why? Mongo

I just listed an underrated actor yesterday in my Happy Birthday thread and his name is Joel McCrea. Also Fred MacMurray, Van Heflin, Edmond O'Brien and Richard Widmark. Mongo

No, don't change it. It's kind of neat and besides it seems to suit your humorous personality. Go for it! Mongo

I guess I prefer the 1940s when I think of fashions especially on the gals at Warner Brothers including Bette Davis, Ann Sheridan, Joan Crawford and Ida Lupino. Then again there's Harlow in the 1930s. Mongo

Talented musical performer Peggy Ryan died October 30th. at age 80. A cute Irish charmer she teamed up with Donald O'Connor in 13 movies delighting movie-goers with their tap-dancing, singing and jitterbugging. She also appeared on the hit TV series "Hawaii Five-0" as Jenny the secretary for 7 seasons. Married 3 times with 3 children in later years she taught tap-dancing in Las Vegas where she lived and where she passed away. Mongo

gwtw we did have a lot of fun with this thread and most important we had harmony about the subject we love most, movie stars. And Ernest Borgnine did indeed give a fine performance in "Marty" and deserved his Oscar. ******************************************************** loveoldmovies, it's never too late to pick your favorite movie star role. Just to let you know that Garbo did make the list with her outstanding performance in "Camille". Mongo

"Godzilla," gets STAR on "Walk-of-Fame???
bansi4 replied to spencerl964's topic in General Discussions
Ugh! I could never stand watching the phoney "Godzilla" movie (1960). The so-called special effects are from hunger (so fake looking). I guess if someone from the Kong camp comes up with $10,000 the big monkey could also have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where he belongs. Mongo
