  1. I just read about Selznick finally getting his star on the Walk of Fame. His son Daniel was present along with Ann Rutherford (Scarlett's sister Carreen) and Cammie King (Scarlett's daughter Bonnie Blue). Statements sent from his widow Jennifer Jones, Olivia de Havilland and Rhonda Fleming were read at the event. I just wonder if the ghost of Robert Walker was present? Mongo
  2. We've done this before and it's fun. If I recollect my Top Ten are: "The Grapes of Wrath" "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" "The Best Years of Our Lives" "Gone With the Wind" "The Sunshine Boys" "The Man on the Flying Trapeze" "The Heiress" "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" "Double Indemnity" "Sunset Boulevard" and 200 others. Mongo
  3. ***********************HAPPY HALLOWEEN****************** Gotta go! The little ghouls are ringing my bell for treats. Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Mongo
  4. johnson, TCM showed the Bowery Boys flicks a few years ago. They recently played about 10 East Side Kids films in a row and they frequently run the original Warner Bros. Dead End Kids movies. Mongo
  5. Great listing path. Just for the fun of it I would like to add two little ditty's that I recall seeing in my youth. Nov 1st at 12 noon: "The Scarf" with Mercedes McCambridge and John Ireland. Nov 2nd. at 9:00 am: "So Young So Bad" with Paul Henreid and Anne Francis. Nov 25th at 6:30 pm: "The Time of Their Lives" with Abbott & Costello in a change of pace from their usual slapstick. Mongo
  6. My favorite 10 films in no particular order: "Frenzy" "Torn Curtain" (if only for the scene in the farmhouse) "Psycho" "The Wrong Man" "Rear Window" "Strangers on a Train" "Notorious" "Lifeboat" "Shadow of a Doubt" "Saboteur" Mongo
  7. By all means...I believe that's what separated them from other players and what made them distictive. They both defied going with the flow and we were indeed the lucky ones in the long run. Let those fabulous "over the top" characters entertain me any time. Mongo
  8. moira, no doubt that the wonderful Peter Lorre is one of our most cherished character actors. I'm looking forward to seeing him in "Mad Love" and "The Beast with Five Fingers" this week on TCM. I just wish I could see him in "The Face Behind the Mask" as an unfortunate immigrant who turns to crime. Of course Margaret Rutherford was no slouch as Miss Marple and in her Oscar winning role in "The V.I.P.s". Mongo
  9. When we had this topic once before I chose the director William Wyler and I'm sticking to my guns. When he was at the helm you were assured a quality motion picture and who could argue with 12 Oscar nominations for Best Director: "Dodsworth", "Wuthering Heights", "The Letter", "The Little Foxes", "Mrs. Miniver" (won), "The Best Years of Our Lives" (won), "The Heiress", "Detective Story", "Roman Holiday", "Friendly Persuasion", "Ben-Hur" (won), "The Collector". Also made "The Good Fairy", "These Three", "Dead End", "Jezebel", "The Westerner", "The Big Country", "The Children's Hour", "Funny Girl" etc. It's no wonder that Bette Davis considered him the very best. Runner-up is John Ford. Mongo
  10. Your on the ball lolite. Good for you! It's your turn to play. Mongo
  11. Correction: The film in which Miss Mayo appears is correctlty titled "White Heat" with Cagney. Mongo
  12. I hope that Miss Mayo is doing OK. The lady will be 84 next month and pneumonia could be fatal especially at that age. I did see pictures of her attending functions not that long ago and she looked good. I always liked the sassy Virginia especially in "White Head" with Cagney, "The Best Years of Our Lives", "Red Light" with Raft, "South Sea Woman", "Along the Great Divide", etc. She also had a great pair of gams. Hang in there lady. Mongo
  13. Thanks evh55. Clue # 1 The lower East Side of New York
  14. Good post therealfuster. By the way who did play the part of the bellhop in "Some Like It Hot"? Mongo
  15. For your information there were 5 Sullivan brothers who unfortunately all perished on the same ship during WWII. Mongo
  16. Uh,oh. Our masterful host made a ****. What shall we do? Perhaps give him 20 lashes with a wet noodle and send him to bed without any supper? By the way Wiley the correct spelling of his name is Osborne. Uh, oh. Mongo
  17. I must say that most of the responses to this thread offered some indepth views of the two lovely actresses. Although I've enjoyed watching both Lana and Ava in many of their movies I tend to choose Lana. I was always facinated at the way that this glamorous movie star carries herself in most of her scenes and she is dynamite in Technicolor. Although the Lana of "The Postman Always Rings Twice" and "The Bad and the Beautiful" impressed me I'm geared toward the Lana of "Peyton Place", "Imitation of Life" and "Madame X" which I consider one of her best performances. Needless to say both ladies were screen legends in their day and will go on entertaining us through their many films that we are fortunate enough to enjoy. Mongo
  18. *********************************************************
  19. Recently watched the movie "All This, and Heaven Too" with Bette Davis which featured an outstanding child actor Richard Nichols. He played Reynald who was under the care of Davis as the nanny and he was most appealing as a sickly child. It is noted that Davis herself took to this child and was very fond of him. He was also in "A Woman's Face", "Kitty Foyle", "Blossoms in the Dust" etc. Just read that Mr. Nichols passed away in March of 2003. Mongo
  20. By all means path try to catch or tape "The Son of Frankenstein". It's a lavishly made shocker, gripping and eerie with bizarre sets (modern?). It's the last time that Karloff would play the Frankenstein monster and Bela Lugosi is outstanding as the evil Ygor. By the way Jean Hagen was nominated for best supporting actress in "Singin' in the Rain" and she should have won the Oscar. Again, your listings are most impressive and very informative. Thanks. Mongo
