That was just swell moira. It describes the delectable Miss Ritter to a "T". She was something else and I miss her dearly. One of her lines I'll always remember is from "All About Eve" after Eve finishes her sob story in the dressing room and Thelma say: "Wow, what a story, everything but the bloodhounds snappin' at her rearend". God bless her. Mongo

It sounds like the movie "State of the Union" (1948). Mongo

Things We Would Never Know Without the Movies

I believe Miss Bow made films for Fox which explains her absence from TCM. Her movie "Call Her Savage" is played on the Fox Movie Channel. Mongo

One is a fair blonde beauty, the other a brunette dark beauty. Both made over 60 films and worked at MGM Studios. Both were Oscar nominated for Best Actress just once. Both had affairs and marriages that didn't last and both died with their devoted Latino housekeepers at their sides. Both Lana Turner and Ava Gardner were gorgeous legendary movie stars of the silver screen. Which one of the two beauties did you find most entertaining? Mongo

The late Christopher Reeve was certainly a fighter as well as an inspiration to all of us. The handsome actor was also THEE one and only "Superman" as we would imagine him to be. Rest in peace good soul and I doubt if we will ever forget your courageous efforts. Up, up and away. Mongo

Any "Lost" Films You'd Like TCM To Show?
bansi4 replied to ibadhatharry's topic in General Discussions
I would like to see a neat little crime drama called "Girls in the Night" (1953) from Universal-International. It's a "B" film about young people who get into trouble when a blind man is murdered. One actress impressed me in the cast by the name of Jaclynne Greene who played Vera but the gang called her "Ugly". A talented performer she only went on to make a few more films then retired. Also in the cast were Joyce Holden and Harvey Lembeck. Mongo -
I recall a lovely actress named Margo who was on screen since 1934. She is remembered for her role in Capra's "Lost Horizon" (1937) as Maria who upon leaveing Shangri-La paid the price. She was married to Eddie Albert for 40 years until her death. Mongo

The widow of Fred Astaire **** me off when she wouldn't give permission to use clips of her husband when Ginger Rogers was chosen for the Kennedy Center Honors. Can you imagine how awkward it was for Ginger at the affair, especially since she was Astaire's perennial dancing partner? Yet, she permits a commercial with Astaire dancing with a mop! She must have gotten big bucks for that one. Shame on her. Mongo

WHOA! HKG it's not necessary to short change the wonderful, versatile, one and only Jimmy Durante with your crass remarks. The beloved Schnozzola is a jack-of-all-trades in all aspects of the medium including movies, radio, TV and recordings, Hot-cha-cha-cha-cha. Not to forget his delightful narration of "Frosty the Snowman" every Christmas. Also a composer, Emmy award nominee and winner of the Peabody award. He was a solid entertainer who made millions of people laugh with his very funny antics and fractured language. He also made a posthumas comeback with his recordings of "As Time Goes by" and "Make Someone Happy" from the soundtrack of "Sleepless in Seattle", making the charts. I for one miss this gent and would take him any day over any of the so called legendary comics. With that said...Goodnight Mr. Durante, wherever you are. Mongo

It's Ann Miller for me. I can't get enough of her jazzy, bouncy style of tapping all over the place. She was a sweetheart. Mongo

Oscar nominee Stuart Whitman was excellent as an emotionally broken sex criminal who has served time in prison, and wants to make a new start in life. I don't believe "The Mark" was ever played on TCM although it is available on VHS. Mongo

In the book "Box Office Hits" issued by the Hollywood Reporter: 1942: "Bambi", "Mrs. Miniver", "Yankee Doodle Dandy", "Random Harvest", "Casablanca". 1943: "This Is the Army", "For Whom the Bell Tolls", "The Outlaw", "The Song of Bernadette", "Stage Door Canteen". Mongo

The name of the movie is "Gallant Sons" (1940) with Jackie Cooper and Bonita Granville. It was shown on TCM a few times already. Mongo

I watched some of the Keaton movies yesterday and although some of them were very good I thought that "The Sidewalks of New York" was terrible. It certainly was a waste of Keaton's talent. Mongo

Shoot, I was happy as a fly on horse poo. What a pleasure it was to tape all 3 musical extravaganza's in sequence and in one night. Of course I got tired but I just let the tape roll and I could watch it whenever I choose to. Perhaps today. Hot dog! Mongo

westie there is a possibility that the movie "Suddenly" was shown on TV prior to the assassination. By the early 1960s studios were releasing many film packages for TV viewing. And leo this could be one of the few times that you actually made some sense in one of your posts. Congratulations! Mongo

I can't explain why but "Harvey" is one of my least favorites of James Stewart's many characters. I just can't cotton to it. Mongo
-
Perhaps Streep didn't make a good rabbi but she was Ethel Rosenberg in the flesh. It was uncanny to say the least. A well deserved Emmy award for Streep in "Angels in America". Mongo
-
Selena Royle was indeed wonderful in mother roles especially in "The Fighting Sullivans" and "He Ran All the Way" (Garfield's last film). Mongo

I believe TCM did show "Storm Warning" a while back and I taped it. It is a good drama and the cast is swell including Doris Day in a dramatic role. Not to forget Steve Cochran who is very good when he is bad. ********************SPOILER************************ I believe it's the only movie that Miss Day got killed in. Mongo

You hit the nail on the head patypancake. I believe Bacall was too much of a beauty queen and should have participated in grunge once in a while. She appears about the same way in all of her films which tends to get boring after a while. She never got out of that "To Have and Have Not" mode. Mongo
-
...the correct title of the Streep movie is "A Cry in the Dark". Mongo
-
Recently watched Meryl Streep in "The Bridges of Madison County" and she was mesmerizing. As Francesca her accent was perfecto as was every emotion and gesture. I couldn't take my eyes off her. It's unfortunate that she won two of her Oscars early in her career since she should have snagged 5 by now notably in "Ironweed", "A Cry in the Night" and "The Bridges of Madison County". The same goes for Bette Davis. Should have won for "The Letter", "The Little Foxes", "All About Eve" (a tie with Gloria Swanson in "Sunset Boulevard") and "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?". Mongo

I for one was satisfied with the fitting birhday tribute that TCM gave Greer Garson today. Since the lovely redhead appeared ageless I doubt that she would have felt slighted about an announcement that she was 100 years old. In fact she may have enjoyed skipping that milestone. Mongo
