I still can't comprehend what this topic is all about? Mongo

If I recall there is a beautiful portrait of Bette Davis hanging in her mansion in the movie "Mr. Skeffington". Mongo

...that "buying trips" which was far from tripe. Mongo

Yes...I met Mickey Mantle in person while I was on a buying trip to High Point, North Carolina the furniture showplace of the nation. He was promoting Burris Recliners in their showroom and the department store I worked for handled that brand. Our salesman introduced me to him while he was relaxed in one of the recliners. He was very cordial as he signed the 8x10 "To Joe, Best Wishes, Mickey Mantle". It's a shot of him in casual wear while reclined in a chair (of course). I did notice that sitting on the carpet beside his chair was a bottle of whisky. Also got Terry Bradshaw who was a real nut, wearing a cowboy hat and throwing balls of paper around the showroom. And I also met a fellow named Johnny Unitis but he gave me a polaroid shot. Of course I also met stars on these buying tripe. Mongo

Fields is a comic genius. He was hilarious in "The Bank Dick", "The Man on the Flying Trapeze" and "It's a Gift". I do hope that TCM can get the rights to air his films again so we all can have a field day. Mongo

brackenhe I'm with you on "Citizen Kane". As much as I tried I can't cope with that movie. Mongo

After reading the very informative posts below it only proves to me, once again, why William Wyler is one of my very favorite directors With his genius at the helm "The Big Country" was bound to be an exceptional western. Mongo

Tom Conway all the way. Although both brothers are talented actors I believe Conway had more zip as the role of The Falcon. It fit him like a glove. And thanks goes to his brother George for extending the role to him when he left the role. Mongo

I feel the same way about this as you do stoneyburke. Bring on "Charlie Chan" and release that wonderful Disney movie "Song of the South" etc. Hey, I'm Italian and I put up with the "Sopranos" and the "Godfather" films...which I admit I love to watch. No big deal. Mongo

My favorite part in the masterpiece "Gone with the Wind" has always been the scene with Scarlett in the field vowing never to be hungry again. And any scenes with Hattie McDaniel who played the wonderful Mammy especially on the stairway with Melanie discussing Bonnie Blue's death and funeral. She was outstanding and deserved the Oscar that she won. Mongo

leo, I figured you were the type that didn't have enough sense to come in out of the rain. Your all wet mister. Mongo

That's great news edge. It must have been a great evening for you especially with all those grand MGM stars in attendance. I for one will make it a point to obtain copies of those fabulous musicals. Mongo -
********************************************************* Kudos once again to you path for an outstanding listing of films to come on TCM. Congratulations! ********************************************************* Mongo

YIKES! I forgot perhaps the number one musical of all time "Singin' in the Rain"! Mongo

I would like to see the "The Harvey Girls", "Oliver!" and the underrated "The Pajama Game" with Doris Day on the list. We also must remember that AFI didn't snub music altogether since they did present the Top 100 Movie Songs of all time recently. And don't forget many of the nominees and winners were from some of Hollywood's greatest musicals. Mongo

Mickey Rooney was already interviewed by Robert Osborne a few years back. Thus far the best interview I have seen is that of Betty Hutton. She was most sincere, down to earth and simply delightful. I do hope that she is doing well. I would give my eye teeth if Lizabeth Scott would sit in that chair opposite Osborne. Mongo

All the players listed thus far are wonderful and certainly contributed their fair share to enlighten any movie. Does Elisha Cook Jr. fall into this category? He was wonderful as Wilmer Cook, the "gunzel". Did you know that Alan Hale and S.Z. "Cuddles" Sakall disliked each other and refused to work together? Mongo

fred we don't usually discuss HBO here on the boards. Our primary discussions are about Turner Classic Movies. Unless your promoting a book (only kidding). Mongo

Since Spielberg is involved I would suspect that the movie will be done right especially considering "Saving Private Ryan" and "Schindler's List" which were powerful motion pictures. I had always hoped that a movie would be made about the precious life of Dr. Thomas A. Dooley and his world-famous mission of mercy. The founder of MEDICO he devolted his young life to the sick and starving in the troubled jungles of Asia. His books "Promises to Keep" and "Before I Sleep" would make a great movie and Cliff Robertson would have been perfect in his prime to play the role. The New York Times wrote "He had so little time, but how superbly he used it". Dr. Tom Dooley was a splendid American. Mongo

I agree that Meryl Streep, although almost there, will reach legendary status since she has more greatness in her resume to come. I also believe that the versatile Renee Zellweger can do it if she continues to amaze us. Mongo

Oh my God! Just when we are getting rid of you-know-who this other jerk rogan pops up with this vinyl crap. We are discussing movies here and not platters (I believe that's what they called records once). Give us a break...already! Mongo
