As usual path your movie recommendations are tops including those of Barbara Stanwyck, of course. By the way the Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour "Road" pictures are funny and loaded with slapstick, some taking place in exotic locations (on the Paramount lot). I was hoping TCM would schedule "The Rat Race" on Debbie Reynold's day since she gives a fine performance along with Tony Curtis. I'm sure you'll get a kick of of her as "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" as the fiesty farm girl turned millionaire. There certainly is plenty to enjoy on TCM in August. Mongo

Bless you stoney. Now if we could bury this thread (that has nothing to do with movies) once and for all. Farewell leo. Mongo

Actress Georgine Darcy has died (of natural causes) at the age of 68. She is remembered for playing Miss Torso the ballet dancer in Hitchcock's "Rear Window". The pretty blonde was also in "Don't knock the Rock" and "The Delta Factor" etc. When she met Mr. Hitchcock she didn't know who he was and he advised her to get an agent. She was paid $350.00 for her role. Mongo

I wish TCM could get a hold of some of the "B" films from Universal-International from the late 1940s and the 1950s. I recall seeing "City Across the River" about the Amboy Dukes which had a very young Tony Curtis and also Thelma Ritter in it on a double bill with "Girls in the Night" both potboilers about delinquents. Another movie which TCM does show on occassion is "Wicked Woman" with Beverly Michaels is a real hoot. Mongo

The only movie that Bogart and Susan Peters appeared in together was "The Big Shot" (1942). Mongo

It could be the "Street Scene" theme music played in many film-noirs from 20th Century-Fox during the 1940s. It was also played in studios "Cry of the City". Mongo

Yes...it was a pleasant departure from drama's and westerns. I had a lot of laughs last night especially from Lou Costello. I would imagine that TCM will show some of duo's other films in the future, hopefully "Hold That Ghost" which is hilarious. Mongo

I concur, It was indeed the great movie "The Good Earth". One of the best saga's ever to come out of Hollywood. Mongo -
Movie/TV composer Jerry Goldsmith has died of cancer at the age of 75. Among his memorable scores included his Oscar nominations for: "Freud", "A Patch of Blue", "The Sand Pebbles", "Planet of the Apes", "Patton", "The Wind and the Lion", "The Boys from Brazil", "Star Trek: The Motion Picture", "Poltergeist", "Hoosiers", "Basic Instinct", "L.A. Confidential" and Disney's "Mulan". He won his Oscar for his riviting score in "The Omen" which was also nominated for best song "Ava Satani". Two films that he recently composed are in production. He was also nominated for oodles of Grammy's, Emmy's and Golden Globe awards. One of the last of the finer composers, he will be missed.

Slappy, I would imagine that all the other Maria's were out on the town when Tony was singing to his Maria who was usually grounded since she was so young. Wasen't it nice that she was at home though? Mongo

Adios... do you think you could do us a big favor and take leo with you? Mongo

There is only one reason I would watch this remake and that is Meryl Streep who I believe will do her usual good acting job as the evil mother. Mongo
