Kudos to you path for this wonderful summary of the films of the master Alfred Hitchcock. Well done. Of course my top 10 Hitchcock films are included here since you didn't leave an essential pearl unturned. In any event my top 5 Hitch films are: 1. "Psycho"2. "Shadow of a Doubt" 3. "Notorious"4. "Strangers on a Train"5. "Frenzy" Is there any particular reason you left off "Lifeboat"? Mongo

Thanks for the info moira regarding the lovely Miss Dowling. Indeed she was wonderful in "The Lost Weekend" and "The Blue Dahlia" and its just too bad that she wasen't used to better advantage by the Hollywood studios. May she rest in peace. Mongo

So glad to hear that your up and about birchkitty. The two movies that you mention "The Apartment" and "The Goodbye Girl" are terrific and also favorites of mine. And remember if you ever want to discuss a movie, most of us here on the boards we'll be happy to oblige. It was certainly nice hearing from you again. Mongo

For your information slappy, Patricia Neal won the Oscar for Best Actress in "Hud" and Melvyn Douglas won for Best Supporting Actor. Also "Hud" is my second favorite Paul Newman role with top honors going to "Cool Hand Luke". Mongo

WWII news reels before feature movies at the theater

Julee I'm afraid this will be like looking for a needle in a haystack. I recall seeing some of these newsreels at the movies from three major studios, Paramount which I believe had the caption "The eyes and ears of the world", 20th Century-Fox and Warner Brothers which I believe had a rooster crowing. Between the 3 they made countless newsreels during the 1940s which leads me to believe that your search will be difficult. However there should be archives for such material perhaps even at the library. If I get a lead on anything I will be sure to let you know. Mongo -
YES feaito, you nabbed it. Congratulations! It's your turn to play. Mongo

Although Garland had her fair share of hits last night (including #1 "Over the Rainbow") I was surprised she didn't make the list with "You Made Me Love You" singing to the Gable photograph. Also missing "Love is a Many-Splendored Thing", "Circle of Life", "Lullaby of Broadway", "Born Free", "All the Way", "Be a Clown", "You'll Never Walk Alone" etc. etc. And where did "Suicide is Painless" come from? And "Road to Morocco"?, "Ain't to Proud to Beg"?, "Come What May"? "Springtime for Hitler"? etc. In any event CBS did a good job and the brief clips were worth the trip. Mongo -

I'll be first on line at the movies and first on line for the DVD of "The High and the Mighty". It is one of my favorite films and Jan Sterling (as you mentioned moira) gives an outstanding performance as well as the rest of the fine cast. I can't wait. Mongo
